Oh, I love it when people speak out their ass- She had the kid when she worked- then was disabled. But of course you were utterly ignorant of the facts before you spoke..how typical.

as for why the public should pay- the public will pay even more to put her in a homeless shelter, or if you want to go back in time, a debtors prison.

we do give disability to people with disabilities you know. you live in the most liberal city in the U.S. yet that city still cannot pay her disability? Even my state has that.

I woke up pissed. Righteously, furiously, gloriously pissed. I just can't understand what has happened to this country. Religious wedge issues have become more important than war and peace, poverty and prosperity. I just don't understand.

When I was on my gastroenterology rotation in August, I had a patient who I'll call Katherine. She was not quite two years old, and had been in the hospital for just over a year, awaiting a liver and small bowel transplant. She was the first patient that I really became attached to as an MD. She did not get her transplant in August. Or September. Or October.

When I came in the hospital this morning, I heard that she had been flown emergently to Pittsburgh, where they were performing a liver and small bowel transplant.

Life goes on. We will continue to fight and call out the admin on their crap and work and work and work to take back our country.

So **** the election, **** Bush, **** this whole goddamn thing.

I don't care. Katherine's got a chance now.

Hey put the blame where it's due. It's not the Dems fault that the majority of Americans are ignorant, bigoted crypto-nazis.

And British conservatives come in different varieties than American ones. They have ignorant knuckle-dragging racists, and the urbane malefactors who are politely devoted to evil.

Americans have KDR's too, they just have obnoxious and Machiavellian satanists on the upper end.

and anyway, i put nervous. Ive been nervous since last november when i first started to learn a lot about both primary candidates. I feel the US was screwed either way, and i feared (and still fear) for the future. so perhaps you might be able to understand why I am nervous now, as well as before the election, regardless of its present outcome

It's painful, have to admit it. This hurts more than any of the past losses, because I felt the stakes were so high and the price my country will now pay will be very steep. I did not sleep well last night, nor eat much today. The entire city seems subdued, but a lot of that has to do with our being held hostage to the rest of the state's anti-gay marriage ban (funny how the only place in the state where it had been an issue is the part of the state that's ok with it, but people elsewhere felt a need to ban it...).

But as of now, I still awaken with a roof over my head, my friends are still here and my way of life will go on unchanged for the most part. The same isn't true for others I know, however, which makes me sad.

To those who have trouble understanding George Bush's America, perhaps this analogy will suffice:

Like citizens of the Roman Republic, most Americans are conservative, religious, a bit blood thirsty, and absolutely convinced that we are superior to every nation on earth. At the the same time, just like Rome of old, we are deeply riven between Plebeian and Patrician. But - so far, anyway - we don't allow those internal divisions to stand in our way whenever some non-Roman needs a righteous beating.

Inevitably however, the balance will swing and more and more effort will be spent providing bread and circuses to the Plebeians (or at least the modern equivalents: welfare, sports, and national medicine). And all the while, the core values that made us great will slowly leach away, and we'll wind up as Canadians. At which point - equally inevitably - we'll be wiped out by some nasty barbarians who are shockingly devoid of moral compunctions (read: conservative, religious, blood thirsty, and confident). And the cycle will continue, ad infinitum.

For those who find this offensive? Good! Go read some history! As for me, I'll burnish the armor, offer a sneer, and enjoy these sunny Republican days as long as they last.

Solid analysis

It's so painfully obvious to the rest of the world what is happening, but our own people are so blind to it.

I'm not sure Canadians is a fair comparison though

They aren't bloodthirsty and *GASP* actually prefer to talk over problems before resorting to confrontation.
