Chapter 9 – Bye bye Captain!
“What a short piece of wire”, Lt. Zimmer said observing the wire found down on the floor, under Seaman Bennefield’s body. “I can’t imagine how this could have been used to strangle anyone.”
“The killer must have been very strong to do something like that”, Petty Officer Danny Rivetti added.
“Or a figure of authority like our missing Captain Ramsey”, Lt. Zimmer suggested.
Lt. Zimmer addressed Chief Kline.
“Chief, I want Captain Ramsey found and arrested pending court-martial for the murder of Seaman Bennefield.”
“Yes, Sir!”
At that moment the loudspeaker announced the news.
“This is the Captain speaking. Yes, your true captain, Captain Ramsey. I have retaken the control of this ship with the help of Mr. Westergard and my first order is to resume the countdown.”
Lt. Zimmer was shocked. He quickly recovered from his initial surprise.
“Kline, Rivetti, take the guns and follow me!”
They armed themselves and proceeded for the bridge. Captain Ramsey has already started the launch sequence and barricaded the bridge. It appeared nothing could stop the missiles.
“Captain Ramsey, surrender at once! Stop the count-down immediately!” Lt. Zimmer shouted.
“No way Mr. Zimmer. I’ll launch the nukes as ordered by the President or die trying.” Captain Ramsey responded.
Lt. Zimmer’s party was unable to get to the bridge and there was not enough time to try and stop the launch sequence from the nuclear missiles launching room. Lt. Zimmer did the only thing he could and went to the communications room to send the request for a confirmation message. Half a minute later an Emergency Action Message followed.
Back on the bridge the lights were flashing indicating an EAM was received.
“Captain, we have received an Emergency Action Message Sir. We ought to check it out,” Lieutenant Westergard said to Captain Ramsey.
“No way Darik”, replied Captain Ramsey, “I’m not falling for that cheap trick again.”
“But there’s no trick Captain. We have received the message. We must read it and act upon it.”
“Lieutenant Westergard, you will follow my orders without question. This message is nothing. I will not allow this commie spy to sabotage yet another launch.”
Lt. Westergard understood he made a grave error siding with Captain Ramsey who was clearly insane and switched sides again, taking his key out of the launch control lock and releasing Master Chief Duke.
“What are you doing Darik? You traitor!”
Lt. Westrgard opened the door to the bridge and let Lt. Zimmer and others in.
“I’m sorry Sir, but I can’t follow your orders any more. Not when we have received an EAM. You have violated the navy protocol far too many times Sir”, Lt. Westrgard said to Captain Ramsey.
“Now Captain Ramsey, let’s hear what kind of message you were desperately trying to prevent us from receiving”, Lt. Zimmer said and read the EAM out loud. It said:
The order to launch nuclear missiles at the designated targets is hereby called off. All armed forces readiness is reduced to DEFCON 3 level.
Captain Ramsey paused a little and then said.
“Well Roy, I guess you were right and I was wrong.”
“Yes Captain, but this is not the only thing you were wrong about. You were also wrong to kill so many of your crew including Seaman Bennefield”, Lt, Zimmer said.
“I did not kill anyone, though I certainly wouldn’t have made a mistake had I killed you at the same time I ordered Commander Hunter’s execution.”
“As commanding officer of USS Alabama I hereby sentence Captain Frank Ramsey to death by torpedoing out of the submarine”, Lt. Zimmer declared.
It took the strength of Rono, ship’s cook, Chief Kline and Master Chief Duke to get Captain Ramsey to the torpedo room. Once they all got there, Captain Ramsey said just one more thing to Lieutenant Zimmer.
“Do you know who Judas was Zimmer?”
“Yes I know who he was”, replied Lt. Zimmer, “He was a commanding officer whom I admired and who disgraced the uniform he put on and betrayed the country he swore his allegiance to.”
Lord Nuclear said nothing more. He just got into the tube and got fired out of the submarine.
“Well, he deserved it”, Petty Officer Rivetti concluded.

Next morning the body of Petty Officer Jonny was discovered in the canteen. He was sitting down on a chair and his head was lying on the table, covered with his own tunic. He was smothered to death. When they uncovered him, they discovered two glasses and two doughnuts on the table. There was also a distinct smell of alcohol and three empty bottles of bourbon were found near the table.

Chapter 10 – Confession
“Obviously the murderer is a man who likes to drink a lot and who was Petty Officer Rivetti’s friend”, Lt. Zimmer said and continued: “We all know your habits and vices Chief Kline. You are an alcoholic!”
Chief Kline was surprised by this wild accusation.
“You know that’s not true, Sir. I’m like any other sailor. I like to have a drink from time to time, but I am not and have never been an alcoholic.”
Chief Kline paused and then continued.
“Nor have I been Petty Officer Rivetti’s friend. But you Sir, you are both.”
“What? You are accusing me of this? I’ll have you court-martialled!”
In the meantime Lt. Westergard was examining the crime scene. He found a name tag under Petty Officer Rivetti’s table.
“Chief of the Boat”, Lt. Westergard said, “please take a look at this name tag.”
Master Chief Duke looked at the tag and read the name.
“Lieutenant Roy Zimmer.”
Lt. Zimmer couldn’t believe his ears.
“What? My name on the tag? Darik, where did you find it?”
“Down there Sir, under the table.”
“Someone has framed me.”
“I’m afraid we can’t take that for granted Sir,” Lt. Westergard said.
Lt. Westergard then assumed command of the submarine and sentenced joncha to death

During this entire calamity, ship’s chaplain father Ben Kenobi has remained calm and dedicated to prayer. He was just about to finish his duty and go to bed when one of the crewmembers entered the chapel seeking confession.
“Bless me father, for I have sinned.”
“Yes my son?”
“It has been three weeks since my last confession.”
“Yes son, go on.”
“I have sinned in thought and in act father.”
“Confess your sins, my son. Repent and you shall be forgiven.”
“I’ve been full of hate. I’ve had violent thoughts and I wanted them to become true.”
“We all have violent thoughts my son. We must learn to control them. What kind of thoughts did you have, son?”
“Thoughts of someone’s death.”
Shivers went down Chaplain Ben Kenobi’s spine. He didn’t expect the murderer would come to him to confess his sins. He took a very close look at the man.
“This is a very grave sin. You must purge your mind of such sinful thoughts. Prayers will help.”
“This is not all, father.”
“What else?”
“I have broken one of God’s commandments.”
“Which one my son?”
“Guess, father.”
“Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain?”
“No father.”
“Remember thou keep holy the Sabbath day?”
“Wrong again father.”
“Which one then, my son?”
“Thou shalt not kill.”
There was a moment of silence. Then, father Ben spoke.
“Do you repent?”
“Yes father.”
“Then we must now go together to the conference room, assemble the crew and you must confess your sins in front of them.”
“I think not, father.”
“I cannot absolve you for your sins if you do not do as I told you.”
“I cannot do as you told me father. I cannot surrender. Not yet. I must complete my work and then I will surrender.”
“What work? You plan to kill again?”
“Yes father.”
“May God help your soul, for I surely won’t.”
“I didn’t expect you would father. I just needed to get this burden off my chest.”
“I will tell about you.”
“I think not, father. If you did that, you would be beyond redemption. As it is now, you are likely to go to heaven if you haven’t sinned too much with the choir boys. If you betrayed the secrecy of confession, you would go straight to hell.”
The murderer got out of the chapel leaving Father Ben Kenobi with a terrible dilemma.

In the morning the crew came to the mess hall to have breakfast, but they noticed it wasn’t ready. When they entered the kitchen to see what was going on, they found rah dead with his head in the pot. He was drowned in the stew he was making.

I've reread the thread with the five of us in mind. Assuming BK and I are innocent. There are three left, Duck, Paddy, and reismark. When the thread was opened, BK and I made posts before the first chapter, while the other three didn't, dispite Paddy and duck being well trained spammers. Duck had said in the past that he was busy or something that may prevent him from accessing the net very frequently. And Paddy resumed his spamming patterns later. Reismark on the other hand, has mainly posted when he votes. I have not seen reis in a mafia game before so I don't know how much he likes to spam. Anyway this is very inconclusive.
When I read the stories however, I've got a quite wild idea. Everytime this mafia makes a kill, there was something left. Be it a sign on the wall, a button, tea cups, wine glasses, etc. Does this mean something to us? I checked dictionary reis means real. Was Ljube trying to imply to us these were "real marks"?

And I'm not ready to have the priest killed yet. Even though the wire is probably a red herring, there are other reasons.
