Chapter 8 – Captain's Escape
“We got him now”, Lt. Zimmer said. “There’s no way he can hide.”
Lt. Zimmer addressed the crew through the loudspeaker. “Everybody, this is the Captain speaking. All members of the crew come to the conference room in five minutes.”
Five minutes later the entire crew assembled in the conference room. Lieutenant Zimmer examined closely the uniform of each and every member of the crew. One of the buttons was missing from Lt. Ince’s uniform.
“I cannot believe you did this Weps. I would have never suspected you. Not in a million years”, Lt. Zimmer was very disappointed.
“It wasn’t me Roy, I swear it!” Lt. Ince replied in desperation.
“So how come you’re missing a button?” Lt. Zimmer asked.
“I can’t explain it. This morning it was there and now it is not. I have no clue.”
“But I do have a clue. The missing button is in the hand of Officer Dauphin who tore it off just before you killed him.”
“No! I have been framed! Please Roy.”
“Goodbye Mr. Nikolai.”

Later on the bridge.
“Sir, we need to get the message confirmed or the officers and the crew might change their minds and align themselves with the Captain,” Chief of the Boat advised Lt. Zimmer.
“You are right Chief. OK. I’m the only one qualified here to fix the broken equipment so I better do it,” Lieutenant Zimmer replied.
He then continued, addressing Lt. Westergard.
“I’ll be in the communications room to try to repair our comm. systems. Lt. Westergard, you have the bridge.”
“Aye aye, Sir!”

Lieutenant Zimmer was doing a really good job in the comm. room. He nearly finished the repairs when he was interrupted by Lieutenant Westergard’s call.
“Bridge to Captain, bridge to captain!”
Lt Zimmer answered the call.
“This is the Captain speaking.”
“Captain, there has been another murder. Please join me at Captain Ramsey’s cabin.”
When Lt. Zimmer arrived, the others were already there. There was a body on the floor, in front of the door to Captain’s cabin and the body was that of Seaman FlameFlash, who had been posted as a sentry and instructed to prevent access to Captain Ramsey, or his escape. Captain Ramsey was not in his cabin and his whereabouts were unknown.
Lieutenant Zimmer kneeled down to examine the body more closely. Under Seaman Bennefield’s body he found a piece of wire which was undoubtedly used to strangle the unfortunate seaman.
