I was immediatley overcome with:

FRENZIED,FRANTIC FEAR-DRIVEN FIASCO'S

This was abound from one corner to another. I had no even set in to overlook what I was soon to find out as a mere hodgepodge of smoking mirrors and tinted windows..

Yes folks I honestly believe we were deceived by previous leadership

I am not positive..but I am hereby making a motion as set forth in the new charter Section 4198 A subpart 24B..line 376.."any acts deemed subversive, may or may not be necessary to prove so long as culpability can be established though proof positive or as close as humanly possible any unmerited deposits, gratuities above and beyond that which is deemed seemingly responsible by any or all parties involved at said time will set forth in action disciplinary action up to and including expulsion and future censorship!

Ok..I found a few small beagle tracks as well as a copy of the Red barons secret ground maneuvers

I will prove my case as we look at what I was left to deal with!

Meanwhile I am handed over a reportr rightfully so criticizing the taking of 2 Japanese toeholds with improper and untrained troops, vastly unmanned thousands of miles from deployable capable support forces..

I fear it is only a matter of time, as our resources will be diverted to national security concerns domestically pertinent to our present course

Yup, I was thinking of doing some razing in Greece as well. Sadly, this is the only way of handling it, if you cannot conqer the whole territory fast. So they need to die.

*Ahem.* I think you rush to judgement too fast, Grandpatroll. Perhaps you do not play in a style similar to mine, but I had adequate troops to reinforce my victories, and had nearly conquered the Japanese capital in my last played turn.

Although i am not generally one to second guess other players, I feel I must defend myself here, after the unreasonable attacks made upon my character. I will follow this with a post explaining the situation I left, and what I feel *should* have been done.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

The Greek Front

You found yourself in the same situation I found myself after Modo's turn - and as he states, the inevitable situation. We had too small a military to take Greece as quickly as Persia, and we were fighting the dominant cultural force in the world. That means lots of reversions, plain and simple. All you need concern yourself with is the fact that you shouldn't worry about them - but leave the cities nearly empty, if you can't afford to staff them adequately to nearly ensure no reversion. You don't lose anything, and you can easily retake the city from its one defender. Remember, the Greeks have no meaningful offensive military and were nearly destroyed - having only a few cities in the south and two or three in the north (barring reversions, but those cities have no military).

The Greek Plan

I was intending for Greece to fall quickly. Sparta held quite a few cavalry, and you could 'wait' them a turn or three and heal their HP, and then take the city that held the stupid Crusade wonder, Corinth, to further weaken Greek military. (If Sparta had no barracks, consider pulling to Athens for a turn, it's only 1 turn and saves you 2 net). Then move on.

Greece at this stage cannot build musketmen or cavalry, and doesn't really have much ability to build *anything*, especially with the Iroquois bothering them from the other side. All of their offensive might was faced south from what I could see. IMHO, the numbers of cavalry I provided in greece without any reinforcements were more than adequate to take the entire continent during your 15 turns; note how much I did with the same number of cavalry, maybe 5 total reinforcements during my entire 15 turns (some cannons that were useless). You also *did* have some reinforcements coming soon, from my recollection, that could go either to Japan or Greece at your discretion.

Even at 5/3/3, instead of 6/3/3 as in normal c3c, the cavalry is an incredibel offensive weapon, and against 1/3/1 pikemen primarily it's as good as 6/3/3 against 2/4/1 musketmen. You get 3 moves, meaning you can take a city entirely in 1 turn without any possibility of counterattack; you have a power superiority even with some bonuses (not all, but it's at least close), and you have retreat ability, meaning if you lose you likely won't die, just go to 1/x hp, and you spacebar in the city, both beating up resisters and healing your units. A force of 10-12 cavalry can take pretty much anything it wants to in this era, and combined you had more than that. The lack of Greek offensive meant you didn't have to leave units behind, or at least didn't have to leave them far behind.

Now onto Japan ...

The Japanese Plan

The Japanese plan was admittedly not as successful as I had originally hoped - as noted in my turn log. The original 'serk attacks were not huge successes, as some of their cities were well defended and on hills and such, and all had walls. I only took 2 cities to start with, but decided it was worth keeping them and trying to continue my offensive, especially when they seemed fairly pacific towards me (and didn't have a nasty habit of reverting). I planned on slowly reinforcing the cities, while taking a few major cities to halt the Japanese offensive. The fact that Japan had low tech and was throwing Horsemen and at worst swordsmen at me was highly promising. Our musketeers were being promoted at a quite happy rate and we would probably have had an army formed eventually, by my guess. Cavalry armies are wicked ... 4 moves, need I say more?

I would have taken Kyoto the next turn likely, if I recall correctly, and from there would have calmly dominated Japan over a long period of time. Unless the Japanese got a huge tech boost from somewhere they'd never stand a chance, and I could afford to throw easily 1/2 of the military production of the main continent at them, and could sail them east directly without going through Persia if I chose to. The main thing was i had all the time in the world - the Japanese were regularly failing at their assaults, and my building of city walls was helping a lot in that regards, and once i took Kyoto they'd lose a lot of their firepower. They basically had a huge army from the ancient era because that's the thing the AI does when it's bored, it builds a million horsemen - but the musketmen survived plenty of attacks by such during my tenure and I only lost 1, before walls were built ... 4 defense + walls + hills + fortification + elite ... what is there left to desire against 2 attack?

The Korean Huh?

I say "Huh?" because I don't understand them, nor how you managed to lose a city to them. They send 1 ship at a time (which if I really wanted to I could build a small fleet to oppose, but that's not needed now) with 2 4/2/1 units on it (once they sent a whole four). They send it to the same square every time, and you can see the ship moving up the coast, so you have time to figure out when it'll be there, not to mention that they're 4 or 5 moves away from their target (Gpas Trolldom) when they land. I put I think either six or eight cavalry in our main cities in the area and designated them as "Korean Killers", basically just waiting for the Koreans to land and destroying their 4/2/1 units easily, healing and waiting for the next group. That's in addition to the cavalry I was building ...

So how did they manage to land enough that you couldn't kill them in 3-4 turns ???

Those Nasty Celts
The Celts were an interesting problem. To be honest I wasn't that thrilled by the little island down there, it wasn't going to ever amount to much and certainly wasn't much more than a liability given the Celtic presence, but nonetheless I defend my own - just wasn't worried about temporary city losses. I sent 6 cavalry down to drive out the Celts, plus upgrading the 2 horsemen there (who both died unreasonable deaths, according to odds). I was not surprised to find them landing more units there - but the proximity of the island to the mainland meant that I felt we could ferry up to 1/3 of our troop production down there and quickly smother any resistance. I also hoped to build some frigates once they were buildable - but that wasn't to be during my tenure.

I wasn't sure of the Celtic strength, and figured they might be able to take the island if they tried really hard, but didn't stress myself out about it - it's not a big enough prize to worry about if the Celts push that hard against it. Bleed them as much as we could, let them take horrendous losses taking the island, then when the Greeks are done, send a huge fleet to retake it, or just ignore it and move onto the main celtic island first. Pretty much any of these options would work well. As long as they're willing to take proxy islands, we can follow FDR's World War II strategy - draw a line, let them go up to the line, and once they get to it defend with all your might and make them lose enough on the way to the line that you can win at the line (Midway).

Of course the Celtic war happened late enough in my tenure I wasn't sure of the situation adequately, so you may have more info on this than me. But, you can always declare peace with the greeks to free up some soldiers, and then go back to war afterwards ...
