Not allies, just "friendly" AI somewhere on the map. Yeah standard rules i guess, no contact until we've found each other, bought comms or council convened.

If you make one change to your alpha.tzt (as most of us that play PBEMs have), then you'll be unable to contact in-game until physical contact is made or you otherwise get the commlink.

This change is simple - change a 1 to a 0 in the bolded line below (towards the end of the #RULES early section of alpha.txt):

Hive Report 2107
A strange alien structure of unknown origin was discovered by scouts this year. Samples show the structure to be eons old, however no clues could be obtained about it's purpose or what happened to the race that created it. The squad leader noted however that upon departure his troops seemed eerily more organised and in far better spirits.

Gaian Report Alien lifeforms proved hesitant to be friendly. Forced to give them a bit of the rolled newspaper treatment. Also, what the heck? Someone is researching Empath Guild project already? Suspect direction of some of the other factions by a highly cheating...er...intelligent AI.

ps, how do you know they're researching cent. empathy ? or do you mean the AI has started building empath guild ? ... Googlie was this project disabled for just us or everybody ?
