I'd suggest putting Spain and Italy with Germany, Austria, and the USA, even though that's not how it was done in the novel. Italy historically signed in with Germany and Austria as the Triple Alliance; in fact, Italy's switch to the Allies in WW1 somewhat took the Central Powers aback. Spain, you could say, is looking to reclaim its lost empire, which Britain, France, and, given they took Cuba a parts of Mexico in the novel, the CSA, are largely responsible for robbing them of, and thus they could side with Germany, Austria, Italy, and the US.

Well its no worries then about mixing up Edgar Rice Burroughs with somebody else's writings. As I said, I still plan on including Cleopatra CI and the city of Bala, I just want to know more about their history and why they were included in the first place.
Now I suppose I could place Spain in the hands of the Continental powers as well as Italy. Would anyone have any suggestions for nations such as Sweeden? Belgium? even Holland?
A problem I just realized with Spain's colonial empire is that her two largest colonies in 1861, Cuba and the Philippines are somewhat occupied by Fu Manchu's Secret Society. I suppose I could try to arrange it so that the Secret Society's cities in Cuba and the Philippines are far enough away from Spain's that they can thrive for some time being without direct conflict resulting.

Well, if you can fit both Amsterdam and Brussels onto a world, even a giga-world, map, without them starving, you have my congratulations! Anyway, make them both British allies, as historically, at that time, they were quite close. As for Sweden, they were dedicatedly neutral to a fault; my idea is to say Fu Manchu subourned their non-aligned monarchy through corruption and treachery, and give them to the Secret Evil Society. As for Cuba and the Philippines, I agree with your idea.

Ya know, now that you mention it.... maybe I can find space in the units.gif and events.txt to include The Da Vinci Code. I might possibly even make a "Free Masonry" wonder for the gameplay. As to what such a wonder could do.... well that I don't know just yet.

While we're on the topic of Wonder's here, would any of you have any idea's for one or two improvments and or wonders that could be included in the game? Something exotic from the mid to late nineteenth century would be really fitting.

Well, I honestly had no idea who David Icke was until I just looked him up now. Aparently he's quite popular among right wing extremist thinks here in Canada... I don't know what to say about that.
I mean.... a race of reptiles known as the Babylonian Brotherhood??? Sorry but I really don't think he'd fit into The World of Jules Verne too well. The Da Vinci Code however might just make an apperance in some way since as of now I have four unit slots left over after compiling a preliminary unit list.

Well in any case, I wanted to get the forum's opinion on an aspect of the storyline I was considering including in the game. Its a portion of the story "Guns of the South". You see, in the novel by Harry Turtledove a group of extremist Afrikaner's aquire one hundred thousand AK-47's and travel back through time from the year 2013 and hand deliver the guns to Robert E. Lee following the Confederte defeat at Gettysburg.
Lee is able to then use the new weapons to win the Civil War... though he is unaware that the Afrikaner's from the future simply wish to use him as a pupet to build a white supremisist nation out of the CSA.
So, my plan is to have a "Army of Northern Virginia" unit. This will be a unit with no movement space stationed in or around Richmond (It would be too easily lost if I put it in Southern Pennsylvania). If the unit is destroyed, an event is triggered that claim's the Afrikaner's travelled back in time to equip the South with the AK-47 in an effort to change the course of history. If the Army of Northern Virginia unit is not destroyed however... the South will not need to be "rescued" and will never gain the ability to build the AK-47 unit.
Honestly.... is this a feasible idea? Does anybody see it making the gameplay more interesting or needlessly complicated?

Will you be using every unit slot for units?
If not, one suggestion would be to have some unit slots used for "Wonders" or special buildings/cities/locations, which if discovered by the player would yield gold or scrolls or other benefits...

I read that supposedly Fu Manchu was actually in LXG.... in a non speaking role that is. Personally I can't remember him. Do you know much about the character Curt? Aside from some very general information on Sax Rohmer's character I know very little. I for one don't plan on drawing too much from that movie, I was very disapointed in the writing.
Still.... I am already using the Nautilus and may or may not use an invisable man of some kind. Anyways.... when I asked if the idea of time travelling Afrikaner's was feasible what I meant was is the idea likely one to hamper or contribute to gameplay, as in a world where men are shot out of a cannon to the moon, capture giant apes, discover lost egyptian cites and so on... well I think they all push the bounderies of the imagination already. Also, time travel was involved in the first version of the game as a means of providing the human player with high tech units from the future if I remember correctly.

Yes... those are good points to consider. Perhaps if I am to go with the idea I should simply have the event trigger be the fall of Richmond itself which then creates the AK-47 unit..... or possibly a small number.
Thats only IF I decide in the end to go with the Guns of the South idea. By the time I reach the beta phase it may become too clear that unless the human civ is the Anglo Alliance and they're losing a war to the Continentals the AK-47 unit just isn't going to make an apperance.
