No can do my fellow countryman... the barbs are reserved for the "Exotics".... the owners of certain trigger events and such.

If the Exotics are barbarians, then you have enough room to include all seven civs you're contemplating; the Exotics were a full playable civ in the original version.

Okay..... there seems to be some confusion over the question I've asked. What I want to know is which two of the following three civ's would people like most to see included?

Aboriginal Confederacy
Secret Society
Latin America

I know how the civ's are going to line up, I just need to make a final decision in the comming days on which two of these three civ's are going to make the list of the six playable civ. In addition to those six, there will be a single independant and unplayable civ as well as the exotics (barbarians).

Well, what characteristics do you want from each of these? Negotiations, ability to make peace or war, trading techs, whatever... Only once you answer these questions can you decide.

I think i would prefer to see the Secret Society over the new 'Latin America' concept, it's a good idea but you haven't got enough slots...

South America wasn't really up to much, they had their share of rebellions and conflicts but even combined together they would of been unable to prevent European intervention. Thats just my opinion.

I agree with ComradeCommisar, Chris. Even today, Latin America has ultimately little presence on the global stage (save for some cultural movements, admittedly), let alone almost 150 years ago. The region was a backwater, at best. Better to give Mexico to one of the Alliances and make the rest Aboriginal with a few Evil cities and Exotic units, like in the original game.

Though, if you want a bit more 'civilization' in the region, make Brazil a member of the Continental Alliance (after all, Brazil was closer to its Portuguese roots, at least in the South of the country, than most Spanish Amerian nations stayed to their Spanish roots). Just a thought.

Put an end to popups!

Yes..... as much as I wanted to include the Latin civ it just doesn't make enough sense historically speaking. So, having said that the final civ list shall be as follows:

Victorian Alliance (Formally known as Anglo Alliance)
Continental Alliance
Muslims
Orientals
Aboriginal Confederacy
Secret Society
Independants (Whats a good victorian name for independant ?)

Exotics (Barbs)

Also, I've put together a timetable for how to deal with the backlog of work I have promised for others. The remainder of this week and next week will be devoted to making titlescreens for Harry, Steph and Eivind. Afterthat, I will concentrate on making city styles for Jules Verne and hopefully I will have a new series of screenshots ready by the 25th.

Yes I saw those new additions Curt, you've been on quite the city designing rampage as of late. It is a tempting offer, and I may just accept it due to the fact my own city style designs have gone slower than hoped. I am clinging to the belief that my limited skills in city design can yield something gameworthy however, but if by the end of March I still don't have at least three styles of my own done Curt I will take you up on your offer.

In the mean time, here is a preview of the Islamic City Stlye I've been working on for two weeks now. I'm actually using the tips Curt gave on the non units graphics thread as well as mimicing the layouts of his cities.

Same here man, I fear that the current output of gfx has raised the bar so high I may need a rocket up my bum just to reach it. I am not complaining by any means though. I always enjoy seeing new gfx that are as superb as these.

Well thank you Jimmy, Erika, Curt and Harry. I'm glad to know you guys think I'm on the right track as far as city designs go. Also Jimmy, a week ago I had never touched a city graphic in ToT format before either. Its honestly not as hard as I thought it was after reading Curt's directions and tips. I mean, if anything the ToT pallet is EASIER to work with than the MGE pallet, as you don't have to worry about colour compatibilities and such.

We're at the dawning of a renaissance in the Civ II world my friends.... gone are the days of the designs and graphics confined to an ancient colour pallet. I predicted once that last year would be the best year for Civilization II graphics to date (Steph will confirm this ) and I think I was right. This year however..... I predict we will make more progress in the design of units, cities, icons, terrains and such in six months than we have in the last six years.

For we have only just begun to understand the true potential of Test of Time.

The dawn of a Civ city renaissance? Indeed we are.

Amazing how some fields can lay dormant for years and suddenly spring back into life. But as long as there's a solid foundation to build on anything can happen.

The basic tips Curt gave me should still be on the non-units graphics thread where he started posting the new cities not too long ago.

Here's the exact link to the page where he posted the answer, its just a little above halfway down the page.

Well rest assured the project is moving along, allbeit much slower than I would have liked it. Right now I am entering the early stages of the tech tree design and after that I will begin what will surely be the greatest challenge of this insane project, the events.txt.

Until there is more to update you guys on please enjoy this small sample of shields that will be used in the project.
