i've had football manager for a few months, it's great fun, and much, much harder than the previous games. your tactics in this actually matter!

and kropotkin is right, start out with a lower league team. i started with bradford park avenue, got them to the conference, hung around mid table for a couple of seasons, then sheffield wednesday (who had gone down to league 2 ) offered me a job, so i took it, won back to back promotions in 2 years (with a lot of the same players i had in league two ) and have since spent 7 years just falling short of promotion to the premiership! i thought i had it cracked this season, my 'release half the squad and not sign anyone' plan was working well but a new patch has come out meaning i can't play with saved games.

No. Newcastle. I sold Michael Chopra to the Mackems and bought Jean Alain Boumsong and Dédé. Newcastle start off with about 17 million pounds (the Woodgate money). I managed to get hold of Dédé for about 14 mil or so. If I had the full version, I'd get rid of Robert at the next transfer window.

Another guy to buy (I bought him in another game) is a guy with a name that sounds like "Wesley Snipes" from Ajax. He's a kick ass right winger. Not as good as Dédé, but good.

If you are Chelsea, you could afford both.

How did that team finish top of the PL? If theyre all on their game, all season, then perhaps but you have drops in morale, injuries, bad form, not to mention Kluivert upsetting someone eventually. You mustve been lucky. And isnt Bowyer better than Jenas?

All this talk of CM is making me want to play again, even though i despise some of the new features and changes from CM3.

He didn't. He's only got the demo, so he can't finish the season. That was the problem with me as well. With NUFC, I started off 1 and 2, but then by the end of the year, I faltered and hung onto 3. This year, I'm hanging on to 8.

My current game of CM03/04 is with Torquay. Won the 3rd division the first season, won the 2nd division the second season, won the 1st division the 4th season. Won the league cup the 5th season and both the FA-cup and the League cup the 6th season as well as losing against Juventus in the UEFA-cup final. Is currently in second place in the premier league in the middle of the 7th season. Got about £40m on the bank, but the stadium is a bit small, about 10k at the moment, will be 16k after new years. I'm pretty sure no one here has ever heard of any of my players.

It depends. You just have to be careful with your players and rotate the squad.

The main problem people have is tiring their players out.

Newcastle happen to be pretty well covered for most positions except the wingers (although they have two good kids - Milner and Ambrose). Aaron Hughes is probably the best player in reserve since he can play pretty well at three of the four defensive positions.

Here's hoping that the stupid ****ers who run the show bow to public demand and allow downloads of the games for a couple of bucks.

Still, 12.5m for a full back, nice if youve got it. It depends who you were playinf pre-season, but 4 tackles a game is what you expect from a centre-back, and he got 6 assists, he mustve got around a bit.

I read some time ago that physical stats are most important, even overpowered, this was way back and they may have tweaked it in the recent patch.

Dammit I can see me reinstalling this

It's a waste to play him as a full back. I play him on the left wing. He's insane - he just gets 9s or 10s for virtually every game; is man of the match in about 1/2 to 2/3 of the games he plays in; and if you sub him usually gets a standing ovation from the fans.

The pre season results for Dédé are no different from what he does during the regular season. I played the first half of the season and he was the top rated player in the league.

Sometimes he doesn't do much, but the two or three things he does do usually lead to goals. He's the kind of player that beats three defenders and rounds the keeper to score.

yay, the owner who ran my team into the ground got arrested today

Marc Rogers, dumb frenchman, arrested

in one year he managed to run a team that had been in the superleague for 115 straight years into bankruptcy and then into relegation. now hes getting arrested for fraudulent bankruptcy, breach of trust, and mis management.

he wont be the last - this one guy tried to sell off his 30% stake of the club in the days before the club went bankrupt.

Chelsea bought Dede in my game and he's valued at 20m. No worries though, I got Downing on my left flank. And I play a 4-1-3-2, so I'm not sure how Dede would do being actually labeled a central midfielder on the left side.
