Got spare money?

I don't know why y'all are getting your panties in a twist. These laws are there so that a broad section of the population -- albeit a minority -- doesn't feel coerced into doing what they believe to be morally repugnant.

I'm all for this.

We have many laws to protect minorities from having to do something that they find objectionable to the highest degree. Why would this be any different?

Sounds to me like you want to force your beliefs on others.

Really? So, as I asked earlier, you're saying that I can get a job at a pork-rendering plant and then turn around and refuse to touch pig by-products?

Thanks for the info, Dan.

Well, is a pharmacy merely an abortifacient dispensing station? Your analogy is weak.

This sounds exactly like the stuff the commies spout, DanS. Are you claiming that a legal contract is coercion?

No, but dispensing contraceptives is a reasonable expectation for the employer to have of his employee when he hires somebody. The employee is the one with the responsibility to get an exemption ahead of time written into their contract.

Well, there lies the rub. Some contraceptives are abortifacients or potential abortifacients. Whether or not it is a "reasonable expectation" for an employer to expect that his employer will sell these drugs is a matter of opinion.

Name me one law that requires an employer to accomodate an employee's religious beliefs to the extent that it renders the employee incapable of doing the designated job. That is not required of employers whatsoever.

Funny, that's what I would say a pharmacist who refused to fulfill someone else's prescription was doing. After all, it's not he who is in need of the prescription.

Religious objections to duties reasonably within the scope of an employee's job description are not a valid excuse for failing to carry them out.

No it isn't. They're medications, they're prescribed by a doctor, they're legal and they're being requested by a patient.

Keep twisting, Dan.

No, it isn't. If the drugs are legal and the pharmacy carries them, it is perfectly reasonable that they expect their employees to dispense them.

I'd love to see a convenience store clerk try to keep his job if he refused to sell cigarettes or alcohol to customers out of religious convictions. You think he would be able to?

Reasonable people disagree on the morality of handling pork or drinking alcohol.

Until they make booze or bacon illegal a supermarket clerk has to sell them.

Which is entirely irrelevant to whether or not a pharmacist should be expected by his employer to fulfill his job duties or not when it comes to dispensing legal drugs carried by the pharmacy.

What if the pharmacist owned the store?

I might also add that a proprietary employer can only go so far with regards to ordering its professional employees to perform services that the professional employee feels uncomfortable with. My employer couldn't force me to deliver babies in her clinic.

So? No one said the company was obligated to fire someone. If they're willing to accomodate them, that's up to the company. But the point was that they don't have to.

Are you sick or something? I've never seen you make such atrocious arguments before.

We've already been over that. I don't really feel that the pharmacist should have any responsibility in that case other than to give the prescription back and refer to another pharmacy...
