Accounting is the most lucrative non-science/engineering degree Full PM-box? Change here!

The average starting salary ($43k) is even higher than Information Science and Civil Engineering. Yay!

A friend of mine made the decision to do a degree in Chemical Engineering based on a table like that, even though he wasn't particularly interested in either chemistry or engineering. I sometimes wonder if his fondness for getting horrifically drunk will overcome the boredom of an uninteresting career.

Increase Your PM Length

I started college as an EE. After 3 semesters I had taken 3 advanced physics classes and 3 advanced calculus classes and was completely burnt out. I switch to Computer Science.

I had a Calc professor who walked into class 5 minutes late everyday, did not say hello, did not even face the class. He would just throw his books down on the desk, pick up some chalk and start writing on the chalkboard and talking with his back to us for the entire class. When he filled up the board, he would erase everything and start over.

He had to grade his tests on a curve otherwise everyone would fail. I remember one test where a score of 22 earned you an 'A' !!

This is a bit misleading. What are the average salaries after, say, 20 years of employment?

Why do you assume the technical positions won't go up just as fast, if not faster?

You get hired doing a great job technically and work your way up the management chain. You end up doing a better job than the ****ers who study "business" as a BA and manage your local McDonalds.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

We have this argument every year.

First, you have to address why the starting salaries vary so significantly.

Then, you have to reason why the Liberal Arts would have substantially more salary later in life than those who started high.

Or provide a link...-

Basically, few people are interested in doing those jobs, there is a high demand, and thus high salaries. Be glad that so few people find such menial and tedious jobs interesting. Also be glad cheap Asian competitors are kep out.

The sad truth is that no talent hacks pop singers make in 1 year what most people will make in 10 years if not more. If you really want money, get yourself a talent coach.

To be fair, the average person in sciences is smarter than the average person taking an arts degree, so we'd theoretically have to control for that...

I would think that tree-planting and garbage-picking that the Liberal Arts grads get to do would be more menial and tedious than, say, developing software.

College grads don;t work Sanitation and people doing planting have science or technical degrees (horticulture and so forth).

And Sanitation is a rather profitable job, if you get it. Strong unions, lost of free time, good benefits.

No, the arts degree people work as bar tenders and have lots of meaningless sex, while you make code.

The correlation isn't wealth = intelligence in all cases, just in cases like real jobs.

I wasn't aware Pamela was on a salary.

I knew arts degree members who worked at a grocery store bakery with me while I was in high school.

One guy was all pleased he had a Psychology degree and was making $16/hr after 15 years (the max under the union deal) baking bread in a hot, overcrowded bakery.

I made more than that by the time I was 18, and considerably more than that when I was 20.

As for benefits, I'm sure the city workers get nice benefits, but I'm pretty certain, say, IBM employees get more.
