Looking again at the Sunderland South seat, more about half of Labour's losses are to the Liberal democrats.

This is a safe Labour seat so it's possible that in more marginal constituencies, labour voters will not have defected to the lib dems and instead stuck with labour to keep the tories out. Maybe the swing in the marginals will be smaller than here.

I voted Labour. Unfortunately I live in - literally - the safest Conservative seat in the country and so mine was probably the most pointless vote in the country

One thing that I've been wondering:

The Conservatives seem to be screwed by FPTP (and the LibDems even more so). Kinda ironic given that they'd been opposing PR. Did FPTP favor the Conservatives in the recent past?

In the same way that a president with a small to medium (though not tiny) lead in the popular vote can get a landslide in electoral college votes

FPTP is the stupidest and most outdated voting system. It simply is not able to cope with the pluralism of today's electorate.

A third win for Labour. These are atypical seats but the trend seems to be Labour losing votes to the liberal democrats rather than the lib dems.

We'll have to wait until we start to see the Labour-Conservative marginals until we know whats really happening

The Labour candidate is worried that he's going to lose his deposit in David Davis's (Tory Shadow Home Secretary and possible leadership candidate) seat.

This could suggest that Lib and Lab supporters are combining to unseat him

Don't underestimate his Borisness. I can't stand the tories, but he's a very intelligent man. Very interesting man to talk to, and has a lot more sense than the comedy would let on.

On what grounds?

He has a brain but so do a lot of people. Aside from the economics stuff (which is hardly the main issue at this election for the majority of people) I'm pretty certain he is a stereotypical Tory.

He's just a 'celebrity' candidate like the Arnie thing in America - my faith in the British population gets weaker every day.

Full PM-box? Change here!

It seems as though the Lib Dems are getting swings around 6% to their party, but these are all in safe Labour seats. Will have to see if this swing will carry over to the marginals, or if only in safe seats the Labours are casting protest votes for the Lib Dems.

This could be big news, in Putney the Tories retake the seat with a swing of 6%. If the Tories can get that swing in marginals nationwide, that could mean a hung parliament.
