Save is in. Aqua and I plan to play it at around 4pm GMT tomorrow (currently 1am GMT)

I loaded it up, things are as expected, Euphoricans on the mountain north on invictus, we are in position to strike. The babylonians have disappeared from view, which is a good sign, sort-of. Should they reappear, it will either not matter because we will have met defeat at the hands of the main enemy, or we'll have some freed up units to counter them with.

The horde moved as expected as well. Assuming we have a good force left after this assault, I think we can swing a peace out of them. I suggest we take it, but not at the cost of any concessions. We should then build up immortals & a smaller force of spears and cats, and attack Euphorica.

Basic plan of attack... suggest both cats fire, followed by assaults by our vet immortals in invictus. then move the Gem Stack into the city, and attack with it's vet immortals.

I am not sure at this point if we throw in the reg immortals, or the horses. we want to avoid situations where horses will face red-lined or 2 hp units, as they will have no chance to retreat, but we also don't want to have them die and promote the enemy.. i guess it depends what is left and how many reg immortals we have.

1325BC

A glorious battle has been fought on the mountain steps of Invictus. Our forces decimated the enemy - here is the full battle report.

Our GA has now been generated.

Below is a screenie of the situation after the battle.

In other news, I spoke to Paddy who congratulated us heartily on our victory. He was half-pissed, and conceded that there has been a 3-way alliance against us since very early in the game, between the Horde, Euphorica and Babylon. He also warned that Babylon may attack from the southwest.

Paddy also suggested we talk to Plato again, as it is likely that the Horde attitude will be quite different now. He claims that our victory has destroyed their alliance.

Whether or not his words are true, we will still treat them as enemies and take appropriate precautions.

First, warm congratulations to our victorius troops, long may they protect out Nation.

Now, Diplomatically, I think we can swing an alliance with Ankh Morpok very easily - they have already been attacked by the Horde, clearly self interest makes an alliance much easier. Was this a spoken conversation with Paddy, or do you have a transcirpt we can read

yes, keep him half-cut

The horde can attack now, or go home - they are not going to achieve any of their war aims now.

Babylon.. We should destroy any Babylonian units we can now that we are armed with knowledge of their alliance. We need a scout on the hills so we can see what's going on there.

They had a horse, where did he go and does he have friends?

Paddy called me after I had posted the battle report, laughing merrily into his red wine. To say he was impressed with our performance is an understatement

I say we should also approach Babylon and tell them we know all about their wussy alliance

We have 3 turn immortals in Sweet Desolation. nothing can be done to improve this by mining or micro, so I have proposed adding a worker.

1) We dont have much for the workers to do until we make more cities, so are not loosing much

2) We get 10 immortals in the next 20 turns as opposed to 6.

3) We are going to need all the troops we can get.

As discussed, this is a good idea as long as it results in 15 shields production and not 14 We can easily replace the Worker later in a single turn. Meanwhile we get more shields and commerce out of him by turning him into a labourer.

aye, I guess we need to look again at the sitch in Sweet Desolation for last turn, and work out what an extra 2 shields will mean, 14 or 15 prod.

I can do this when I get home, unles Solomwi has it on his spreadsheet?

Do you think we should pursue the Euphoricans with horsemen if they retreat? Assuming, of course, that the Horde either does not advance or goes away.Or should we remain on the defensive? If the Euphoricans retreat then we can use our road to get ahead of them in the mountains. But, as I said, this depends on what the Horde does.

Paddy claims the horde stack has entered our territory, if so it occupies glassland. The enemy stack has 1 vet and 1 reg spear, 9 horsies 2 archers and a lot of swords.

Sadly I do not think we are ready to strike at it directly, and the horses will be in range of Antioch as well.. We have if I recall correctly 4 Imortals & a warrior, plus a cat we'll finish this turn. That should be able to hold against the horde's 9 attackers, walls + fortified + hill, plus more units can reach the town.

The Horde may have a second force ready to join in form the west - possibly ACs, this would be bad.

If our men move out of Invictus, they can reach Antioh before the horde stack can attack it - if the horde do not block or pillage the road 22 from their current position

If they did that, our best bet would be to attack them on the hill, the low number of defense units means we will cut into their swords, and blunt their offensive even if we cannot beat the whole stack. this has the drawback of leaving our own troops out in the open, but I dont see any other alternative. At least we have more spears than they do.

It looks pretty grim. We'll have to move a few units into Antioch and transfer most units from Mt Massacra to IS. Let's hope Euphorica retreated to heal.

I doubt Paddy will risk sending his 9 Horses against Antioch without Swordsman support. That means it will be 2 turns until they strike. The key is where will he move next turn - 2 to the GL or 1 to the Hill? I suspect it will be 2, meaning Antioch will be cutoff from reinforcements.

If Babylon has appeared with a stack we are in serious trouble.

The Babylonians have showed up within striking range of Aquarius with 5 horsemen. There is only one immortal in there now so we need to get a couple of spearmen in there. Luckily we can move them in from Antioch within one turn.
The Euphoricans have only 5 units in their stack and are moving away. This is good. We can now move units to IS. If they were coordinating well they would have left the stack where it was to tie up our units.
Antioch and IS are three tiles away so we can shift units quickly depending on where the horde moves next. I think attacking them on the flatlands is a good idea.
I think we can beat this offensive and hopefully we'll have enough time to recover before the next wave comes.

If I remember correctly they moved in the 3 direction towards IS. As for how many . . . . maybe you don't want to know. Actually, I didn't count but I think they have more units than the Euphoricans did.

The Horde moved 2, same stack as before.

The babylonains have only 4 horsemen in range of aquarius.

We need to keep Antioch, 9 horde horsemen (2 elites) threaten it.
We can keep Aquarius, I say leave one Immortal, both warriors and the horsemen there. All other availalbe units to Antioch, the city we care about.

The Troops in Mount Massacre should move to Inner Sanctum if they have 3 HP or more, and stay put if they are redlined or 2 hp.

Dont think the horde will attack, but one never knows, I think a step to the grass north of Antioch is more likely - we can't reach them with the troops from Mount M that way unless we move the Mount M troops to 4-4-1 to the grassland outside IS... this puts them in range of the horde horses, but it would be unlikey that they are attacked, plus we have a lot of spears and cats to defend that stack with.

Aqua, same time as last turn? 4pm-isg GMT? Can you make that Masuro?

we could do that.. am betting the offer will not stand.

All we need is a turn though, and we can always engineer a reason to back out of the deal.

Perhaps Aqua can propose it, and then I can do a coup-de-tait and replace him, and cancel the deal

A deal made under duress is no deal at all. A confession extracted by torture would not stand in court. An offer to send 3 settlers - and have we worked out what the horde plan to do with them, btw - made at the point of a sword doesn't have to be honoured if you subsequently get enough swords of your own together
