city population now:
Res 14,950
Com 3,041
Ind 4,428
The city is doing great! Population has nearly tripled in the five years since Jan 1 2005, and growth only gets quicker.
This is a picture of the total of the city: (Yes, Maq, that is a new avenue in the northeast for you)

The military-industrial complex explodes (oops) with growth.
At area 51, the army tests superweapons with which to blow up the Mergdale mayor's mansion for placing the missile testing silo so far away from civilization. :grr:

Beautiful Cliffside Avenue, a great showcase of what has changed in El Dorado in 5 years:
In the top left hand corner: the new Hospital, which is more stater of the art than everyone else's.
In the bottom right: Patton High School, overlooking the cliffs around the river, a new multi-hundred dollar facility.
At the corner of Cliffside Avenue and Old Mergdale Road: the beautiful new City Hall.
Immediately across from it: Memorial Library, servicing the whole city.

Now on to real business.

I, too, can handle your garbage, Osweld. Far better than that Atragon. You know how he gets rid of his garbage? He shoves it down baby seals' throats. I will build a state of the art recycling center for your garbage.
(Plus I've got some leftover electricity too. That is made with the cleanest coal in the world. As opposed to enslaving hamsters to run wheels hooked up to generators, like Atragon the evil Earth killer is doing.)

Well, actually...
I also burn coal... made from garbage!
And my garbage disposal is far superior, the seagulls that feast on the garbage then impact my evil wind turbines thus imparting energy to the whole cycle.
Seriously though, I'm behind the 8-ball, I grew too fast and this has screwed me over, I constantly have massive R and I demand... but high wealth keeps moving in, dropping the capacity of my nice high and medium density R zones with police, fire, education, and health coverage.
And because of providing all these nice services... my budget would have been in the red, so I took out loans... and now the loan payments are putting me in the red.
Are U-Drive It missions OK for quick cash?

No screenshots for now...had to rebuilt my bridge for $9k, for some reason the original one wasn't being used :/
So not much progress here, still a slum city, expanded all areas a bit, but most of the cash went into the new bridge.
Future plan is the create a new residential area west of the Sacaferocious Shops and gradually replace the Slothilicious Slums by a new Commercial district ideally suited for offices....Omniscesquittal Offices maybe?
Improving air quality is also on the agenda, but first the wealth of the sims has to be improved so the sims have an alternative to work at. Taxes for dirty industries have been slightly raised, while commercial taxes have been lowered. A Clear Air ordinance and Tourism Promotion programme has also been set in motion to further discourage polluting industries. Despite these measures though, dirty industry is still in very high demand.
Bubble Junction also opened it first ferry, after a long and exhausting search, city planners finally found the ideal spot for one, and its already transporting hundreds of commuters.

Forget coal, East Central continues to get power from the flow of the vast smog clouds drifitng over from the north and west.

Hey Ludd- Can you see these pictures? They are hosted on the same server as the files.
The growing Blount Works to the north continues to attract people to the region. Since zoning has kept housing tight in our northern neighbor, thousands commute every day by bus and train from slums in East Central. Although still running a deficit, fares are covering more than half of expenses, with the remainder subsidized by toll gates.
We expect transportation to be making the city money as development continues. Currently railroad planners are hoping for the expansion of the Western Line through Bubble Junction to our eastern neighbors.

Granted the old downtown was planned quite haphazardly. Now, to accomodate the growing number of commuters, the construction of Transit Villages has begun, starting with this one near the Gulch. Amenities include frequent bus and rail service and local schools.

The postcard view of 2010: Farms are moving out of downtown and to the hills, shacks are being replaced by tenements, and the west side is being developed.

The last five years has brought remarkable change to Epwood. The city has nearly doubled in size, and has upgraded its facilities and transportation network as a result.
Here is Epwood as of 2010:

Now lets take a tour of this sprawling town. First we have what is collectively known as "the Brook". The Brook is actually divided up into three distict Zones.
West Brook is the oldest, and for the most part, the poorest neighbor in the city. The residents of this area work work primarily in the Old Industrial Complex.
North Brook is better off financially than the residents of West Brook, and most of these residents are employed at the growing commercial complex known as San Henri.
East Brook is the richest neighborhood in the city. This is where the
factory and storeowners live.

This is the Old Industrial Zone. These dirty factories used to be the heart and soul of the city. However, as our manufacturing facilities expand, this area is having a reduced impact on Epwood's economy. Though this area still provides an abundent number of jobs, it will be slowly dezoned over the next ten years.

Diamonton and Bloomington are newer residential areas. The Residents of Diamonton work all over, and have incomes ranging from the richest merchant to the poorest factory worker.
Bloomington is a Dense low-income housing development meant for the labourers of the Manufacturing complex to the south.

Epwood Central is a middleclass area, most of the residents work in
the San Henri district. This is also where the major of Epwood, EPW, takes up his residence.
David Town is a fairly poor residential area. It is only a short trip down Brood Boulevard to the Northern Manufacturing complex.

And here is San Henri, the commercial center of Epwood. Although it is not impressive now, this area is scheduled for massive expansion in the next decade.

And last but not least, is the Northern and Southern Manufacturing Complex. Although still under development, this area provides nearly 4,000 jobs to the resident's of Epwood. This area will eventually be the only Industrial zone in the City as the Old Industrial Zone is phased out. The Y freeway, also scheduled for expansion in the near future, enters from the Northern Complex.

Nothing much happened. I spent most of the time building industry and some commerce, for the global (as in city) demand. Still have high industrial demand, so if the next players could finish their turns with high residential or commercial demand instead that would be nice. Although I dont mind having no residential, as long as i have clean commerce/industry.
Next 5 years will be adding water, a port, and generally improving the lives of the current citizens/workers before i add anymore.
@ mrmitchell: I dont think your avenue connection to me went through, I made a road connection to you anyway, since i dont have any avenues in my city.

Maq, try importing your own city. The avenue connection did go through when I uploaded your city.
Will have city statistics shortly. |
Odd, when I imported my city then loaded my city, it made the avenue connection right, but cut my previous road connection. I tried importing El Dorado again but that didnt fix the road.
Oh well, better to import than just replace the file it seems.
