Tired of ads?

After we lead some topics already in common between our civilizations, and discuss it with the Brazuca people, we came with a "package deal" that we like to link, making our nations more close and friendly. We would like that this proposal went submitted to the appreciation of the people of Apolyton, in order to permit a consensus about those subjects. We expect a positive proposal and so fast as possible.
Yours, etc, etc…
The most sincere blah blah… of your friendly Nation.

Here is our proposal:

--->About the exchange of technologies:

The Brazuca civilization proposes the exchange of Bronze Working by our Alphabet.

Good

--->About the Screens:

Our people have the full intention of carry out such trade with you, people of Apolyton. However we’d like to know in that "molds" we would make this exchange. An example: We’d like to know how much information we must pass you, and which kind of Screens. I don’t know if I was understandable, however the Brazuca people would like to know more details of this trade.

Good
I think a straight swap with resources/units turned off.

--->About the agreement of maintain units at least 1 tile from the borders:

Beyond concretize this deal, we’d like to increase somewhat in the style of exploration: We’d like that the curraghs have free passage by the cultural borders of the nations. Of course we should debate more about the matter, it’s only a demonstrative of our intentions.

Good

---> The Brazuca civilization would like to include in this "package deal" a peace treaty, with duration of 50 turns on average. We find this an interesting topic it to be analyzed, for that we’ll be able to grow and develop our nations in a complete way, and may this bring joy and brotherhood to our peoples.

No NAP's - Try to get out of this.
If we do decide to attack, this is waving a red flag saying we are going to do it in 50 turns. (or at the end of whatever NAP extension we agree to after the 50 turns)
And if we attack early, we up with an even worse reputation

--->The Brazuca people would like to ask priory to register our agreement in the UN. The Brazucas citizen are a little fearful, and despite of knowing that a feeling of cooperation between our peoples exists, insists on the idea of prevent any possibility.

Good

o.k., some thoughts...

First off, good to hear that they agree with the border closure issue (of 1 tile distance).

2nd - great with the Alpha for BW.
This defiately shows they are NOT researching it, nor are they planning to in the near future. This goes along with the thought that they are going for Philo and the free tech.

3rd - Screenshots, still under debate, but (personally, IMHO) we need to make sure that we only exchange terrain features and no resources and nothing in our mutual cultueral interiors. But that's my take on this issue....

4th - 50 turn peace bad... essentially a 50 turn NAP. Can we turn this around or lessen the timeframe? I don't think that we can entirely remove this?

5th - Passage for Curraghs!! That confirmes that their newest city is on the coast!!! Great Intel for so little.... Also good to know, that it's mainly working on seafaring units and not land units (from that city, for a time). Goes along with the 50 turn NAP. They will want 2 or more, to go along with the coast. This we can deal with, as long as they give us the same....

6th - UN registering of treaty - as long as it's not public, because of not having contact with others. Please NOTE: this is an opertunity for getting information from them, during next contact/chat. Must be handled carefully. If they have contact with someone else, we might be able to get that Intel from them, with this issue. i.e., "well we don't want others to know that we have contact", "but we do know of someone else...ulp!!" or something along that line. Again, handle carefully, maybe in a mistranslation, of doing a translation, too quickly...

Also, we want to, ultimately keepour rep clean. If they don't have contact with other continent, then they won't even know about it.

7th - Package deal. Can this be negotiated, maybe removing part (i.e. NAP) or parts, as separate deals. Tech exchanges, for instance. We might be able to take like it is, but with renegote with now techs or something. Something that's innocent, but able to nulify the NAP issue??? Or, can we turn around, to where every new tech issue, invoved renegotiating whole deal?

8th - delaying tech transfer - due to possible plans for war with CBR. First haggle over points, but not too much. Maybe with clarifications and such, to put some delay in there. Than afterwards, once details are hamered out, we let them know, that we have to poll this and because of us having large Lurker pop (truth), we will need to have a longer than normal poll time. This gives us another built in delay for that transfer. The longer they don't have it, the less Spearmen that we might have to deal with, if we DO go to war. And we don't get poll up until late...

Now, let's hope that they won't want to do to us as they did to CFC....

Suffering from ads?

We could delay a tech trade for 3 or 5 turns (6 to 10 days). That doesn't amount to much.

50 turn peace? I'd want 6 cities at 10spt with barracks in most to go to war. Safely. (That's 2 swords/horse per turn production).

It will take us ~20 turns after granery just to get to 6 cities. Add in worker production and improvement of tiles, then joins...

Turn 70 might be about right, for an early war.

Here's an idea re the NAP and necessary renewal thereof...

Can we throw in 'useless' clauses that seem to mean nothing now, like regular exchange of screen shots, that we could claim later to be subject of contention by a faction in order to stall renewal?

With any luck, they will get sloppy and leave renewal to the last minute. We can then beg an outbreak of 'democracy', all the while speaking sweetly while the swords and horse gather in the staging points.

Full PM-box? Change here!

On the point that their second city must be on the coast - don't think this is 100% sure, they may just be including now the possibility to have this freedom of movement in the future.

Why not instead of a NAP that lasts 50 turns, suggest a NAP that either side must give 5 turns notice to end - we can suggest that if our first trades go well, we could increase this "notice period" in the future.

CBR is a seafaring Civ. They started on the coast with the ability to build Currahs. Maybe we should slip this into the factors about what they have.

I am all for trading Bronze for Alpha. Don't haggle over it. We win out on tech points by a long ways. Plus, if they find another hut, the will most likely get BW from it and ruin the deal. Get this done ASAP before they remove it like they did so often in game 1.

With them having a 3 move currah (possibly 2) and us building a worker first, they will have a much larger portion of the map mapped out than us. Trading screenies is a good thing. Go ahead and turn off units and resources, but don't bother with blocking inside our borders. I don't trust these people. Once they get writting (they got CB from a hut and they are not doing BW. This leaves writting for the philo bee-line as the most likely candidate), I can see this nefarious team unofficially building embassies when ever they want to look at one of our cities.

NAPs... well, to hell with reputation. Its not like there will ever be a Civ III ISDG 3. make a nap and blantantly break it if it is in our advantage to do so. If they are foolish enought to trust us, make them pay.

Nope, in my understanding they have higher chance of starting on the coast - not a garauntee. However you are right - their capital is likely on the coast from looking at the map as we know it..

No, dont make deals we plan to break, that's poor form. dont make binding deals we might want to break either. What do people think of my NAP with a notice period idea? perhaps even combine ideas and have a 50 (or less) turn NAP with a 5 turn notice to end built in.

The biggest problem with a notice period is that we have to give them notice.

Personally I think it would be better to just accept a straight peace treaty.

I mean, what is worse, breaking peace or a None Agression Pact, peace being the term that it is?

From the C3C readme:

quote:

It's an academic point anyway.

If they HAVE built a few curraghs, great - less warriors.

on the subject of NAPS and peace...

If they WANT a nap, I like my 5 turn notice idea. if they can be pursuaded to accept a "peace" deal with no lengths or notice periods, even better - but i would still prefer an "out" that lets us end the peace by some means other than popping a stack onto their border.

You do realize that Apolyton blantantly broke a NAP with.. oh damn.. Lucky's team in the original ISDG and are none the worse for ware. People still see us as a trust worthy team and make deals with us. Hell, GOW broke almost every treaty they ever made, but people still made deals with them.

There is a difference between breaking an out of game treaty becuase it is favorable to your team and flat out cheating as CBR has been caught doing in the past.

Who do you think has a better rep? If we stab a cheating team in the back, who do you think will have the better rep?

breaking a treaty - like if we have a treaty that says "you send republic accepted, we'll send 1000 gold back accepted" and then don't send the gold? I dont want to play with a team like that..

breaking a treaty - like declaring war? don't have a problem there, unless the treaty says "peace shall last for 200 turns" or something..

I'm not sure if I can agree with your feelings here. War should always be an option. If war, at a certain point of the game, seems more likely to give us a greater chance of winning the game, than peace, then off to war should we march, IMO

IMHO, they know who we are. They know our traits, they know about our warmonger reputation. And, exactly because of that they want a "package deal" involving a specific number of turns. Any attempt we do to escape this kind of “tied peace”, they will take it in the right way: we are planning to destroy them.

I’m saying, they’re not stupid… There are some good and experienced players in Brazil.

GWT refused to deal with us in round 1 based on our rep from the first demo game.

Some teams take it more seriously than others.
So why would we want to potentially ruin our rep even more ?

If we can get out of signing NAPs. Then

Allowing renewals or 5 turn notice, is just letting them know we are attacking in 5 turns.

If we break it, we break it with a SOD appearing on their border.

I'd prefer a no NAP policy.
Similar to GS.
