Hi ,
a Q , what about changing the level for the nice barbarians and corruption .
i tried to put it to raging but it seems to work only if you do it in the screen of "the map" , that is the screen before the one where you can choose the civ you want to play , but if i do that , the whole map and rules seems to be "messed" up , so ?
have a nice one , DAY

Hi ,
well , what's up , on this thread , ....
okay , player1 , gramphos , i seen something funy , when playing on the map , when going to the industrial age , hmmm , well then settler gets the worker icon and the icon for the settler , well , huh , it just seems to go , 'blank' , i really believed that it was due to the comp or whatever , but , in the mean time i seen it with 3 others aswell , huh , one guy started on a new comp so it cant be due to some wrong files , i mean is harddrive was just formated from zero , hmmm , any one else seen this ?
oh yeah , the Piroque , could that be the problem ?
well , have a nice day

I'm trying to start my second game with correct starting locations on Marla's glorious map, and encountering an IO error when loading the FIXED.SAV file. I had no such problem the first time I started one of these games, but this time it keeps on happening and I can't get past it. I've tried shutting CivIII down while running the correction program, and restarting the whole thing. Same trouble each time. The only thing I've done differently this time from the time it worked is to choose a different civ to play (Greeks) and to choose my opponents rather than make them random.
Any suggestions/fixes?? Is there a bug in the location fixer that's known?

quote: Big problem is still the fanatical rush to colonize Siberia. What if you replaced the forests with just plain tundra (for some of it, anyway), and then set Tundra to 0 for everything (only 1 shield, after mining). Would the AI still settle up there? |
That sounds like a workable solution, *however*...you should then also change the amount of tundra in Canada. Canada is not a huge winter wasteland like some of our neighbours to the south seem to think. We get just as warm of spring, fall, summer as the northern U.S. does. We're only cold in the winter, when it's DAMN cold. March 25th, 2002, still waiting for spring-like weather
Anyways, from a gameplay perspective, if you make the change you suggested above it would totally cripple the Americans & Iroquois in N. America, due to how much of the map there is tundra.
Another thing I noticed, playing this map as the Americans, every single city I settled adjacent to a river still needed an aqueduct for growth > size 6. I've never experienced that "glitch" on a random-generated map.
And I, too, have experienced significant slowdown, even as early as the year 200 or 300 A.D. I have an Athlon 1400MHz, with 1GB of RAM, running Windows 2000 on a four-HD RAID-0 array, yet it still gets stupidly slow at the start & end of every turn, while it processes the unit movements, city build orders (not the interactive part, but the part where the game adds shields to the prod'n boxes of the various cities). I've never had a slowdown issue playing the game-provided HUGE maps...is it much larger than them? I didn't notice...

hi ,
well , it can be overcome , let do , they (the comp) puts only ever so many squares a city , give tundra zero food , remove game , and put forest like zero food , huh , that should do it .
okay , us and iroquois , hmmm , modify the map , put wheat on places ya want a city , in siberia or north america , i tried it , and it seems to work
have a nice day

now that the patch1.21f is out I heard that you can NOT make any changes to marlas map if you install the patch and any changes that one has made to Marlas Map will be wiped out is this true?? I also heard that the starting positions on Marlas Map can not be used as they were written? So in other words patch 1.12f make the map and any changes worthless if the patch is used? is this correct?

I guess I will not install the patch I do not want to lose all the work I did on Marlas Map. Patch 1.16 is a good one. I may install Civ3 with 1.21f on my lap top but will have to use a small map because it is only 450Mzh 64 MB and would most likely be to slow on a large map.

Yeah I was planning on playing today but with all the incompatability problems I had to put it off.
Darn those updates, but on the other hand, some good ones.
Did anyone notice that the editor has the funtion but said it was for "future" use?

Do you mean Marlas Map ? Who is Marthas??
I heard that Marals CPT was not working with 1.21 I e-mailed Marla but no answer. I do not want to use 1.21 if the starting positions are disabled.
