1.17b and earlier is incompatible with Firaxis 1.17f patch
Sorry I thought this had already been covered in the thread, (they've been quite vocal about it on CivFanatics, hence my confusion)
Basically it's the CPT tool which is incompatible, you can either download the new version of that from Gramphos' thread and attempt to find the right place to put it, or download 1.18 upgrade from CivFanatics

I'm still confused. I thought CTP was Call to Power.
Y'all are throwing numbers around like I don't know what? What do I need to do to get "Correct Starting Positions For Marla's Earth Map" to work?
And here's a suggestion I thought of after watching Shaka Zulu:
Make the Impi a swordsman with 2 movement. Impis are useless except as scouts/defenders... and even as defenders, they're not that good. How are you supposed to use hordes of them to conquer (like Shaka did) with only 1 attack. The Zulus had Iron Working, as their spears and assagais were made of Iron, so that would logically make them an Iron-requiring unit. But at the very least, they could be changed to Horseless Horsemen.

The Moscva River meanders through Moscow and doesn't flow too far from Red Square.

Use what install? As far as the rest of your directions go, that's what I did. I've played (well, started) dozens of games on Marla's map, but now that I've got the 1.17 patch, I get a "Tile" error, and the Greeks, Chinese, whoever I'm playing... end up not being visible at all, and the info box says they're standing on Ocean.

Is there a CPT/Earth Map that works w/ version 1.17f AND allows you to start without America as a civ?

my question still is will version 1.8 when installed overwrite version 1.6??

OK, In reverse order.....
1.16 and 1.17(and above) used different file locations, so it's may be possible for the two to co-exist, however remember that 1.16 was a Beta version... so it's buggy
version 1.18 works with the 1.17f Firaxis patch and your free to choose whatever Civ's you do/don't want in the game, just don't EVER choose customize map as this does not give you the option to choose the size of the map (unlike one silly person thought)
So you don't like the river thru Moscow, ok YOU change it, then post the changed version on this forum for myself and Marla to look at
Anybody still confused about correct positions shoud consult the readme file (yes, that's right, you need to read it in order to understand how to use the mod!) either find the shortcut to the readme on your start menu, or point your browser HERE (Yes I know it say's version 1.17 on the website, but, believe me, nothing of importance has changed)
I'll just repeat..... 1.17b and earlier are incompatible with Firaxis' 1.17f patch, which given that they are probs virtually re-writing the game from the inside out to fix the bugs *ahem* features, is not really surprising.... I imagine there will be more problems once the multiplayer version appears
If you have suggestions for improving the map, make the change and then post it here for everybody to look at, Please do not suggest major changes to the size/shape of landmasses this is the one thing that makes this map stand out from all the others which appear to have gone down the route of europe twice the size it's supposed to be and the atlantic ocean being a small north-south river rather than an ocean
If you don't like the fact that the europeans are so close at the start of the game, de-select some of the europeans before starting the game (there's no rule that say's you have to have all 16 civ's)
If you want to avoid the game crawling from 1200/1400 onwards don't choose the full 16 Civ's
Some browser's have trouble downloading from Apolyton. if your having trouble downloading this map from here, try getting it from CivFanatics HERE
I've still not decided what to do about the Iroquos, anybody who knows where to find decent information about the Inca's on the net please email me
Right, Rant Over... back to normal service

I did not like the reviews on the 1.17 patch so I will stick with 1.16. I used marlas 1.16 map for an entire game (with changes ) and found NOT bugs. I did find after a while the game went very slow 5+min for the computerr to move and at times I had to reboot because the game became stuck or if you went to the dip. table the lines between civs. would not show up is that the bug?

The map should do... Is there another bug in CPT?
All you should hve to do is to select what civs you want from the dropdown menus. |
No, it doesn't seem to work.
-I open the Scenario, Marla's World Map
-I select myself as Rome and on the right, I choose all the civs except America, leaving one box as NONE.
-I start the game and save it immediatley as fixed.sav
-I click on the Correct Start Positions shortcut then after about 3 seconds I get a little window that pops up that says Invalid Type in the title bar and an OK button. That's it. I click OK and nothing happens after that. I try to load the file but CIV III says "failed to load file".
Can it be fixed Dr.?

There is your problem. Save the game as FIX.SAV, then select the Correct Start Positions.
CPT will save the corrected save game as FIXED.SAV. Then Load FIXED.SAV and away you go.

OK, I got the 1.18 and started to play it... then switched back to my own customized (default rules with minor map changes) 1.13. Since the new patch is supposed to stop building new cities once optimum size is reached, requiring 3 pop for Settlers is probably unneccesary (and since I wanted to see if Siberia still becomes the great melting pot of cultural diversity, I wanted the AI to expand as fast as it normally does.)
But here's my other comments (the changes I made):
Thebes is too far north. You have it where modern-day Cairo is. It should be down around that Incense where the Nile splits.
Washington seems a bit too far north, too. It looks like it's where New York is.
Still no Horses in North America... But then add to that the fact that the only sources of Saltpeter in North America will be claimed by the Aztecs almost instantly (even though it'll be centuries before they know it). If you're going to stick with "historical accuracy" on the Horses, then shouldn't the Americans have the Saltpeter monopoly? I added horses myself. Since you need Navigation to trade across Ocean, it's far too long to wait for someone in Europe or Asia to agree to trade with you.
Another nifty thing I did on another map:
Set Gold to a Strategic Resource (requires Currency)
Set Marketplace to requires Gold
Set Gold as Default Money Resource (when you enter a goody-hut that gives you money, a Gold will appear in that square)

Hmm, I see you fixed upgrade problems (v1.18 is newer then one posted at civ3.com (map only) )
But, there are many other chages in 1.17f BICs wich are undocumented.
-pop&building defense is 16 (instead of 8)
-rushbuilding unhappiness lasts 40 turns (was 20)
-Aluminium & Oil is no more at Plains.
-Aluminum can be found on Tundras.
For details look undocumented chages in 1.17f patch thread (general), and excel spreadsheat from Nero (files).
Suggestion:
Reset map to "default" 1.17f rules and then make your chges from scratch (map size, extra ship units, etc...)
That way you'll make map 1.17f compatibile. |
map size ? , hey , i would like to make the map then bigger , but , huh , how , please explain , or else , i can not follow with what ya mean

You can't resize the map. It is coded in the map data, and the World Sizes info in the BICs are only used if you select to go to customize world.
