Tired of ads?

It's Ok.. I've cracked the language barrier... should have the thing up and ready for the end of the weekend as I'm finally getting to grips with Delphi!

Talking about languages, how many of you out there have seen/purchased foreign language versions of Civ3... are there translated versions or was that just my imagination... let me know, see usual contact details below....

Got spare money?

Hi!
The map is really accurate, but sometimes this causes worse gameplay.

In my opinion the British Isles are too small. Maybe add one or two land tiles in Scottland and make a land bridge to Ireland, because otherwise the English will fall back very, very soon (as you already noted), because they can only build two working cities. Ireland would make that three and an additional land tile would make them better. You can also make the Scottish highlands a little flatter (hills) for more settlement opportunities.

Norway: The Norwegians lived along the coast of Norway (and still do). The northern coast of Norway is full of mountains (which is geographically correct), but this makes it impossible to build cities there. You could place some grassland tiles north of the mountains and give them some fish & whales to be able to grow. This would make the geography of Norway less accurate, but would allow a historically more accurate settlement.

Corsica/Sardinia (the Islands west of Italy) definitely have no mountains that are higher than the ones in Italy. A more correct terrain would be hills in the north, plains in the south.

There are forests norht of the mountain range in northwestern Africa. Small ones, but you could add one or two.

The map you created is based on today's surface of the world. In the olden days Germany (for example) had way more forests than it does in you map. Caesar wrote about a vast area of forest expanding from the Rhine into Slovakia. In northern Mythology the "Myrkwid" (Mirkwood) was seen as the largest forest on Earth and was -guess where- in Germany.
North America and Russia had more forests, too.

Iceland: The tiles NW of the village has to be grassland. This area of Iceland is very fertile.

WOW! So much criticism. Sounds like I don't like your map. No! This is the best world map I have ever seen for any CIV game! Just great! I hope you accept my criticism as constructive and with good intentions. Great job!

CU

1.17 Released Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

Version 1.17 Now Available

1.15 Added Pirogue For England, Rome & Japan
........Also increased cost of producing a settler
........Was released as a Beta patch, no installer

1.16 Added New Installation Program
........Rome AI set to build more ships
........Pirogue given it's own directory and a copy of Galley files
........Was released as a Beta install program
........Also added several bugs! oops!
........Would crash on Windows 9X Systems oops again!

1.17 Installation Program Fixed
........Tested on Windows 98 and Windows XP
........Civilopedia entry for Pirogue improved
........Russian city names corrected (my thanks to Vasiliy Beliaev)
........Civilopedia files now amended, rather than replaced

Before running the install program.....

If you have previously installed 1.16 delete the "Modpacks" folder inside your Civilization III folder...

If you have previously installed 1.13 delete the "Marlamap" folder inside your Civilization III folder...

This will be the last time I change the modpack layout (I promise!).

Suggestions are still welcome on this Map.

If you wish to provide any translations for the pirogue's civilopedia entry (I understand that there are *some* translated Civ3's out there) then please contact me.

I'm looking to help pull together a Europe mod next, i.e. I will take Joe Bloggs map, John Smiths spanish mod, Jack Jones polish mod etc.. etc.. etc.. and pull them together in one easy to install (if rather large) package. Yes I AM looking at a full set of graphics for each Civ. So if you have ideas on what I should be looking at then please contact me!

If you want to play with less then 16 civs in the correct locations you will need CPT v1.02 to be sure that they are placed on the right place.

Just replace the CPT.EXE that followed the map with the one that can be downloaded in my thread. (or wait until the installer is upgraded to contain it)

Great map! There is no other word for it. I had just a game as Egypt and enjoyed it very much!

Sorry, if that has already been reported, I lack the time to read the whole thread. But in the area south of the Sahara desert something was wrong with the rivers. Some tiles next to rivers did not allow irrigation, and some cities adjacent to a river needed to build an Aqueduct. How can this happen, or is it intended?

EDIT: I was using the 1.13 map. Maybe it has changed in 1.17.

Maybe I'm d/ling this wrong, but when Irename the attachment to a .zip, it tells me I have a fragment and it doesn't work. The one off Civfanatics says that it dropped files and is empty. Is this my fault, or the server's?

This is a know problem with the game (not our fault!), perhaps it would be possible to make the rivers more accurate by editing the graphics for river's but I'm no artist.

Rename the file to "attachement.zip" and you should be able to unzip it.

I've heard it comes from apolyton, several files have this issue. When you will click on it after renaming it, you will just have to double click on the file inside the zip, it will ask where you civilization folder is located and everything will be easy.

I'm mad !

Ok, I would then advise you to download it from civfanatics... but since civfanatics' forum is experiencing some troubles... you can't connect to it !

Hmm... well anyway, check "downloads" then "maps" in that site, who knows, maybe one day it will work again.

I've tried and failed to find another Forum where we can post the files... so in the meanwhile you can download 1.17b from the location below.

HOWEVER! as soon as CivFanatic's is back online I WILL REMOVE IT, while I can cope with the bandwidth having everybody download from my webspace will make it look like nobody is downloading from these forums... and to a certain extent the popularity of a map/scenario is measured by the number of downloads.

CivFanatic's is back online
