I have the conviction that northern europeans are inherently racist.

They can't help it, it is in their mentality.
Whereas they will pretend they are not and they will try to show that they are not they will always believe it deep down and will always show it by little things despite if they want to show it or not.

A greek will talk frankly to the other person and if they both sit on the same table and eat and drink and laugh without prejudisms and without superiority complexes.

a nothern european on the other hand will be much more reserved towards the other person and will even subconsciously always take pride in what he believes is his "superior" race.

He will be polite towards the other if they sit on the same table but his racists feelings will always persist even if he believes they are not.
I think the northern europeans take pride on feeling "superior"

This of course does not go for all of them but for the majority.
The only exception to this rule are scandinavians

in part from my own experiences and in part on what I've seen abroad and also read here on Apolyton.

Who I mean: english are inflicted with the most latent racist feelings. Next come austrians and dutch and german. French are considered "southern" but they are chauvinists which is not exactly as bad as racist.
Not Irish though.

er......maybe theres a sense of superiority, subconsouisly, because they keep in mind that Northern Europeans once ruled the world and rose to be the most enlightened and organized people on earth.

But I agree that they think they are organized, more civilized and better than the rest of the world (don't know about empires though - they were others far more potent and important than say the austrohungarian) and that's at the root of the problem.

edit: but a lot of other people think that too and they are not iflicted with latent racism.

Also it's about skin color too I think.

Turkey and Greece have reasons to "hate" eachother as you said. What is the reason for laten racism? (assuming you think it has to have one)

Well, yeah, I mean racism means a lot of things now...not always necessarily prejudice based on race, which the name implies. i suppose prejudice is the best word, it's general enough to encompass all forms of what we're talking about

I think that there is no latent racism. I think that each individual that is racist on the demerits of their own ignorance.

I lie to think that I don' hve any racial prejudices,but I know it's not true, I will always have certain preconceptions when I meet people. The thing is realize that, and look beyond it. Everone make pre-suppositions, just looking at someone, and don't tell me you view each and every new person without making any judgements based on the way they look. They're probably not racist in any way, but we all make opinions on people before we ever know them.

As to the Hellenic thing, it was during some argument where language came into play, and I copied a little chart directly from my linguistics book.

No question Northern Europe is racist: look at the French vis-a-vis the Arabs, and the Germans with the Turks. This doesn't mean they're all racist, but it is definitely a society that still clings to the days before 1945, when racism was the norm.

Alright, if people want to blanket North Europeans as racist, then we should follow through. Greeks are hairy and smelly. Arabs are Muslim and fundamentalist. Americans all carry guns.

All of these are only partial truths. Ablosutes do not exist when you talk about people.

If he had put Americans into this, then most everyone would be falling all over themeselves to comfirm what he said. We have seen many threads about that very topic.


Bottom line is this. Every group shows some signs of racism. Some of it is for practical reasons, and some of it are for totally insane ones. No blacks and whites here people, only grey.

Sorry but Germans and Scandinavians are in fact the same race, so if it is latent in there race should scandinavians be also racists and Americans and Canadians also(most came from northern Europe).

There is currently no more racism in Europe then in the rest of the world.

Also the statement about social values is nonsense, northern europe has one of the strongest anti racism laws in the world. There are no more reports of racimn in Europe then let's say Rwanda, Servia(southern Europe!) or Kosovo.
