I have often thought that people use a word and it is defined differently for different people
I would like to see how people define this common word

It depends on the person.
Some bisexuals have leanings towards one preference one week, one the next week, over and over.
Others simply don't differentiate between males and females as prospective mates and are attracted equally to both. I guess the brain's just not wired to differentiate between the sexes in this case. |
for such a difference shouldn't there be different words??

Sure. The people who switch from week to week aren't really bisexual, they're gay and then they're straight and then they're gay and then they're straight etc. |
lets make up a word fro that
and bisexuals would be what according to you??

I think it's important to remember that the purpose of the term "bisexual," like the term "homosexual," is to give names to deviance from heterosexuality (before I get flamed: I'm not saying that's a good thing, I'm just saying that's the etymology of the terms). Not surprisingly, not a lot of emphasis has been placed of delving into the nuances of the term; since its primary purpose is to designate "deviant" people, simply calling them all "bisexual" is enough to do the job.
I'm voting "other" because, realistically, I'd imagine you'd want at least 5 other terms, corrensponding to points 2-6 on the Kinsey scale (where 1 is homosexual and 7 is heterosexual, or vice versa -- I forget which). But that would be admitting that human sexuality exists on a spectrum, and not in neat little "us" and "them" categories...and we can't have that, can we?
Reminds me of a joke I've always liked:
"NEWS BULLETIN: Scientists announced today that they have discovered a powerful new drug that, when administered in proper doses, breaks down straight men's resistance to gay sex. They're calling it 'alcohol.' "

"The way I see it, nobody is 100% queer or strait, some just have a much stronger preference than others."
Wish me luck finding my way to the couch "I have to sleep there when I have been drinking, I "squirm too much" to quote my partner.
Ah well, La vie est ce qui est il, oui?

I voted "no preference" as that most closely reflects my interpretation of the term.
Bisexual to me means someone who doesn't pick partners on the basis of their sex, but whether they find them attractive regardless of their sex.
