So now you are telling me I could have been 6 foot tall if I had chosen? You really are a strange one aren't you?
quote: In some cases then, the healthy sex drive obviously isn't fulfilled. People claim to be gay, people claim to be bisexual, and some people claim to be asexual. |
Who are you to label what is a healthy sex drive and what isn't. In fact Stew, homosexuality is commonly observed in the wild in a large number of species (well documented, probably applies to all species, where applicable). I suppose any man could screw a woman. It is a matter of preference whether they want to. There is a considerable need to be with the gender of your choice in life, like you with females. How would you feel if you had to live your life with males in relationships, longing for a woman all along? Get your act together Stew, it stinks.
And Iain also brings up a damn fine point about your attitude to alternative culture. From not too long ago you seem to have done a total U-turn. I have seen how in recent time you have conducted yourself on the Rockworld board, like an arse would be the best description. You even take subtle jibes at me or Iain. It's really strange, and somewhat concerning.

I agree whole-heartedly that you can't just make a choice and switch your preferences. I do want to ask you however, whether we can agree that one's sexuality cannot possibly at the time of birth be limited to one of the genders, and that same sexuality is if not entirely, then at least mostly shaped by your environment.
If that's correct, we're all bisexual to begin with, whereafter our respective environments in most cases shapes a preference for one and only one gender. It would also mean you could eventually change your sexual orientation if the "forgotten" side in yourself was stimulated somehow, maybe through reflections on sexuality, being around bisexuals in a pseudo-sexual context and so on.
Of course, that would only be possible in a period of actual sexual development - I can imagine that the early teen years would probably be those where one would be most easily affected.
END OF QUOTE FROM MONK
This is what began in another thread started by Blisterz and we decided to continue the discussion here, where it is more relevant.
I have to get back to you on this Monk to provide more meaningful comments. Right now, I'm pressed for time. Gotta get to classes in less than a half hour. |
Ok, I am back tonight at home.
Now that I have read your comments, Monk, let me contribute some of what I think of what you said.
If sexual orientation is on a continuim rather than separated rigidly from one another, then your statements could be correct. But only if sexual orientation can be proven to be on a continuim.
I think once you develop your sexual orientation, whether that be through environment, or genetics, that is the sexual orientation that you were probably meant to be --- whether that be heterosexual, bisexual, or homosexual.
Or maybe bisexuality can be seen metaphorically as a weighing scale if sexual orientation is on a continuim. That means then, that you could be fundamentally bisexual, while leaning either towards bisexuality or heterosexuality. Which is basically what you said. Interesting -- I will probably have more to say as I think about it some more.
And Boddington, you seem to be ignorant about the theories on sexual orientation development, and sexual identity. You use the word "claim" in a completely wrong sense. Do you "claim" to be straight? Of course not -- we are usually HONEST about our sexual orientation once we realize what that true sexual orientation is -- not "claiming" a sexual orientation.
And Blisterz, please do not take this the wrong way. I do not want to get on your bad side. I thought since your thread was a more personal issue one, that Monk and I would have thread-jacked the original topic. Sorry, man.

That's like saying it's unhealthy to use a condom during sex, genius.

Not everyone is a poser like yourself, Stewie. One day you'll realize that, and then you can come here and apologize to everyone.
How do you explain people who have been bisexual all their life and knew it? How about those same people in an extremely conservative environment that frowns on it? Are they doing it to be cool and fashionable? No wait, let me guess, this time they're doing it for rebellion, right?
You're so off and generalizing entire people based upon the poor judgement of certain people (no doubt in your group, birds of a feather...).

Boddington's,
I wasn't going to bore you with a page long post when a few lines can exquisitely sum it all up. What more facts do you require?
I need you to answer my question about the process of sexual development. And for the record, I'd love it if you delivered a long post about your thoughts on the subject. While you're at it, I think I need a definition of what's "healthy" and what's not, and try to include some reflections on masturbation in that answer.
Fun,
I think once you develop your sexual orientation, whether that be through environment, or genetics, that is the sexual orientation that you were probably meant to be
Then your sexual preference can only be genetic or somehow God-given. I don't reject the idea of the gay gene - I don't know anything about it as we don't have that discussion in Denmark, and it doesn't really interest me much anyway. But I think you're highly underestimating the power of the environment you're born into. As I told Boddington's before, I consider one's sexual preference as a (significant) part of your identity, which is non-existing at the time of birth. Imagine an experiment in which we place 300 boys on a desert island and let them grow up there without ever seeing a woman. We can be sure that as a natural result of their sex drive, all 300 would eventually find themselves engaged in homosexual activity. If said experiment was conducted and "succesful", could I get you to withdraw your statement that we're "meant to be" anything at all?

Well there are multiple theories out there right now. But if you can provide evidence to past psychological experiments that emphasize environmental impact on sexual orientation development, by all means do so.
But you're basically saying that we are all born asexual then, right? And then we develop our sexual indentity later in, say, our teenage years?
And Boddington, have you read this discussion between me and Monk? Probably not, I gather. But anyway, I will cross my fingers and hope that if you're interested, try giving some intelligent comments instead of some rantings about fads.

Stew, seeing as you seemed to miss my post earlier, I'm repeating here for your benefit...
quote: Stew, don't talk such utter bull.
Perhaps there are one or two people that claim to be bisexual for ulterior motives; however, they are an extremely small minority, and whatever you might now claim, your original post read "bisexuals are only choosing to be like that because it's currently trendy". Not some or a few, you tarred all bisexuals with that brush. It's a revolting, bigoted comment, and I sincerely hope it's only a troll.
Besides, what would you know about the "goth/metal/punk cliques"? You wouldn't touch them with a bargepole. You bought NOFX and Offspring shirts and were too embarassed to wear them! How can you make such stunning generalisations about groups you don't even know or understand?
I've seen people go through hell over their bisexuality. Some of whom you know too. I've ventured far further into those "cliques" than you ever had the balls to do, and I've yet to meet a "trendy" bisexual. Yes, some "alternative" people do look down on those that aren't like them (which I think is why you seem to hate them so much), but again it's a small minority. It's not trendy to be bisexual. For everyone other than the bigots, it's irrelevent.
Like Jon said, grow up. |
Now ****ing reply you piece of chickenshit.
