Boddington, I see NO logic in your connection between being trendy and sexual orientation.

Gays often don't want relationships with bisexuals because of insecurity reasons with theirselves, and some straights don't want bisexuals because of insecurity reasons with theirselves.
It honestly defies all logic completely, and I do find it offensive that some posters here who pretend to be champions for equal rights and opportunties have stated that they'd prefer not to have relationships with a bisexual person.
There's absolutely no reason for this, and I find it offensive to be honest.
Bisexual doesn't mean you see two people at once.
Bisexual people are just as capable of monogamous relationships as everyone else, and when they're in a monogamous relationship they're effectively gay or straight (depending on the sex of the partner) so it's a complete nonissue.
Those who try to say otherwise are just being shallow and a tad bit immature. |
I'm not a bigot -- really, I'm not. And I wish people would not perceive this as being hypocritical.
Asher, you and I get along on here fairly well -- I would hate that my stance on this personal choice would poison our friendly relations on Apoltyon.
And why has everyone ignored my racial relationship analogy??
Does mono-racial relationships indicate racism?? If not, then that means gays who do not prefer bisexuals for relationships are bi-phobic, right??
I would disagree, with both instances.

Isn't Asher's point that sexual preference is not relevant to monogomy? |
Funny how nobody has argued they wouldn't date a bisexual because they think bisexuals are incapable of monogomy. Ergo this is irrelevant.
quote: Only it's not like a redhead.
Bisexuals effectively become straight or gay depending who they are partners with.
It's like as soon as you enter a monogamous relationship with someone who originally had redhair, and the second you started the relationship their hair turned to blond.
At that point I can't see why it's an issue, or why anyone would care to have a preference either way, because their hair is certainly not red anymore.
So it is disturbing that even the liberal thinkers on both sides of the fence don't want to date bi people for superficial and shallow reasons. What does that leave bi people to? A life of casual sex with people like MrFun? |
I find it disturbing anyone who claims to be a liberal thinker would dare judge anyone by who they prefer to date. As I have said before and will say again, the entire crux of gay/lesbian/bisexual rights is the freedom to have a relationship with whom you want, and it is utter hypocrisy to say the reverse doesn't apply.
What does it leave bi people to do? Well, date people who want/don't mind dating bi people. Date other bi people. But you will never, ever convince me that I should somehow feel bigoted or guilty for dating whom I want for whatever reasons I want. To accuse people who are 100% in favor of equal rights, protections, recognition and respect of bisexuals of being bigots because we don't want to date one is wrong and counter-productive.
It's not bigotry, it's a dating preference. You have no rights to force others to date whom they do not want to date.

Well, that's your problem for having a narrow train of thought on the matter.

 Hear ye, hear ye, all heterosexual men. You are now shallow and closed-minded because you don't want to date gay men.
quote:
Nobody's forcing, but I'm just calling you out on being shallow.
If you want to be shallow, feel free to face the consequences of it. Otherwise grow up and date someone on WHO they are, not WHAT they are. Any true liberal thinker would tell you that. |
I guess I'd rather be shallow by your standards than be such a blatant hypocrite. Once again, you have no right to judge anyone for whom they choose to date. That puts you right in there with Jesse Helms in terms of bedroom Nazism.
quote: (Then again, I'm not out looking for a date precisely because of bullshit like this -- nobody thinks rationally anymore it seems) |
Or maybe your unrealistic, self-aggrandizing notions of relationships don't make a good match with your potential partners?

Did you really just say that about me? After what you've just said in this thread? That's classic...
quote:  Hear ye, hear ye, all heterosexual men. You are now shallow and closed-minded because you don't want to date gay men. |
That's an entirely different thing. Heterosexual men do not date gay men because they cannot have sex. Duh...
quote: I guess I'd rather be shallow by your standards than be such a blatant hypocrite. |
Don't you see? You're both. A shallow, blatant hypocrite. Hooray!
quote: Once again, you have no right to judge anyone for whom they choose to date. That puts you right in there with Jesse Helms in terms of bedroom Nazism. |
So I can't judge you for not dating bisexuals, yet you can judge bisexuals as not worthy for you to date?
Interesting conundrum isn't it?
quote: Or maybe your unrealistic, self-aggrandizing notions of relationships don't make a good match with your potential partners? |
You're right, most potential partners (as evidenced by this thread) are too shallow for their own good. Their loss, I don't care much either way.

Yup, and I stand by everything I said in this thread, and nothing about it is shallow.
quote: That's an entirely different thing. Heterosexual men do not date gay men because they cannot have sex. Duh... |
Sure they can, why couldn't they? Besides, the ability to have sex doesn't affect WHO a person it, which you went to great lengths to stress. If it's solely about WHO a person is, then what difference would that make?
quote: Don't you see? You're both. A shallow, blatant hypocrite. Hooray! |
Sticks and stones. Nothing I've said is hypocritical. But you claim to be a liberal thinker and then practice the worst form of anti-liberal thinking, which is being Mr. Thought Police.
quote: So I can't judge you for not dating bisexuals, yet you can judge bisexuals as not worthy for you to date? |
I'm very flattered you find my depriving the bisexual world of my datin presence such a loss, really. But it has nothing to do with their worth as people. It's about my preference, and that's all that matters. No, you can't judge that, because you 1) have no idea why and 2) you have no right to judge anyone for whom they choose to date, ever, period, end of story. It's an easy concept to grasp.
quote: Interesting conundrum isn't it? |
Huh? Conundrum? Where?
quote: You're right, most potential partners (as evidenced by this thread) are too shallow for their own good. Their loss, I don't care much either way. |
You're too pompous for your own good at times, but usually you're likeable and I agree with you on many points, so I can forgive it here.

Because not wanting to date someone isn't discriminating against them. It's exercising the same choice I would be if I didn't want to date you because I didn't find you attractive. People say that's not an equatable argument, but it is. I am not attracted to the notion of dating a bisexual person. That has nothing to do with the fundamental worth of a bisexual. I am and shall always be for complete bi equality and acceptance. But nowhere in that does it mean I should feel obliged to date anyone I don't want to date.
Mantra: No one who advocates the freedom to choose whom one dates can seriously deny the right to choose NOT to date someone, for WHATEVER reason.
quote: People can go ahead and think that, and I can sit here and point my finger at the blatant hypocrisy and shallow thinking and discriminatory behavior those people represent. |
Fingerpointing makes some people feel so much better about themselves. Self-righteousness is cathartic, I guess.
quote: Trying to rationalize it is digging you into a deeper hole. Just admit you're prejudiced against bisexuals for one reason or another (which is OBVIOUS since you feel you can't DATE them), then move on. Just don't be proud of it. |
I certainly don't have to rationalize it to you, nor anyone else for that matter. And I will proudly tell anyone who wants to know: I choose not to date bisexuals, and that's my right and I am not the least bit ashamed by it. And I will proudly say it has not one thing to do with any bigotry against bisexuals. It is about me and my personal choice of who I want to date, nothing else.
quote: Oh, pull your head out of your overly loose ass already. |
Homophobe.
quote: You've said you wouldn't date someone because they've probably had sex with a woman before, in so many words. |
I said no such thing. I have had sex with a woman before. Who one has or had not had sex with in the past does not make one a bisexual. You should know that there is much more to it than that.
quote: And that's not shallow? Christ man, open your eyes. Learn introspection. |
This from someone who can't argue without being unbelievably and personally rude to someone. You may disagree with me, but the insults are childish. Time for your bottle!
I've been through more introspection in my life than you have, I'd wager, if just because I'm a few years older. While I wouldn't presume to throw my age around as a measure, I will say that in this instance, I have obviously had more experience than you and know much better about that which we are discussing. Thanks.

why can't people understand that some things I like I can't really explain and have no basis in bigotry
that which makes us different is what makes us interesting to eachother(within reasonable bounds)
if I like curly haired red heds wnd would not date a straight haired blond does that make me a bigot against blonds??
no, it is mearly what I find most attractive
come on people, allow others to have preferences

It's not that difficult a concept.
You have a right to discriminate about who you date, and I have a right to hate you for it.

There is simply no way to rationalize it, it's all based on irrational emotions.

That's like saying I choose not to date black people because it's my personal choice of who I want to date, nothing else. That makes sense, but for people to say something like that they've obviously got some problem with black people, or in this case bisexuals.
You know me, the resident Apolyton homophobe.
quote: I said no such thing. I have had sex with a woman before. Who one has or had not had sex with in the past does not make one a bisexual. You should know that there is much more to it than that. |
Okay -- let me get this straight (no pun intended).
You, a homosexual, are telling me, a bisexual, what it's like to be bisexual?
When you enter a monogamous relationship with a bisexual, then yes, the person's heterosexual side is not even present for the term of the relationship, because it's a monogamous relationship between two men.
quote: This from someone who can't argue without being unbelievably and personally rude to someone. You may disagree with me, but the insults are childish. Time for your bottle! |
Oh, give me a break, you were rude and insulted me when you said you wouldn't date bisexuals because they're bisexuals. Are you that blind?

Ah, so perhaps we can go discuss this with an 80 year old homophobic Nazi and see what his opinion of the matter is. After all, he's had far more experience in life than the both of us.
Bastard.

if you are talking about what your ansewr will be then it is a sliding scale
like
yes, probably yes, maybe, probably no, no
for a 5 position scale
but of course at the time of the decision is would have to be yes or no (a dual system)
