"Very seldom do atheists go door to door begging for you to switch to their beliefs. "
No, it's worse. They talk to you at work, and everywhere else. You can't slam a door on them!

Atheists do stuff like burn down churches and shout profanity at non-atheists. Not all of them, but some. And not all non-atheists make kids hold signs and stuff which is something I despise.

Every so often one of these threads shows up. The word troll usually jumps to mind, but then I remember that not everyone has the benefit of good, secular education... Evolution is an accepted scientific fact, and is even accepted in principle by the Vatican. As for converting religious people, I don't do that. I just don't talk to people whose belief system radically clashes with mine. Your loss that's all I can say.

Most athiests don't care. They might have a friendly arguement, but attempting to change somebodies religious belief's in near impossible.
What really gets my goat is how fanatics constantly attempt to get rid of evolution in the public schools and replace it with "special creation".

I wouldn't hold common Darwinian evolution up as being absolute fact. I generally accept a majority of it's concepts, such as natural selection, micro-evolution and so forth. There are indisputable facts. I think it's even safe to say that anthromorphic macro-evolution can occur as well. However, there are serious scientific problems with acceping evolution as the end-all solution to all things in Biology. Such as the Cambrian Explosion, Irreducible Complexity, paucity of fossil records, unexplainable source of domesticated plants and animals, etc, etc. I think that it is perfectly reasonable to challege evolution on scientific merits, however it should still receive attention in classrooms as a very important scientific concept not to be thrown out by a couple of upset conservative parents. But to be fair though, the evolutionists who wish to side-step the problems with their theory and label those dare question them "silly creationists" are no worse than the fundamentalists that they so disdain.

Religious types try to convert others a LOT more often than atheists do. Other than some of the debate threads here (which are really more intellectual exercise than attempts to convert), the only atheist I've ever heard of who was on a conversion kick was Madalyn (sp?) Murray O'Hair.
Let me emphasize that I'm not criticizing the religious folks for this. Many of them honestly think they're doing you a service. My youngest brother, a fundamentalist Christian, truly believes that I will be tormented for eternity if I don't accept Christ before I die, and that worries him no end. Hence he preaches to me every chance he gets.
