Mesh,
quote: David Floyd - how about during WWII? When air raids all over the place bombed the heck out of "general" locations in cities? Civilians and military personel alike were killed, it was horrific. Is the UK, France, Germany, Russia, Italy, USA, China, Japan all murderers? By your standard, yes. But by the standard THEN, it was commonplace. |
And by the standards of the 1820s, slavery was OK. But just because some people had funny ideas about freedom doesn't make slavery OK, now does it?
quote: Now the US and it's allies have stealth bombers/fighters that operate using PRECISE weapons, to take out military targets only. I won't insult your intelligence by implying you didn't know that too. |
Um, killing soldiers who have done nothing wrong is murder too.
quote: Okay, and also, bear in mind the Saudi's BEGGED for US assistance in 1990, fearing that Iraq would invade them as well! Sure enough, Iraq took Kuwait, and Kuwait called for Allied help! So if you want to point blame, sure, you can blame the US for helping friends when they ask for help. |
Yes, and they did so with my money. I refuse to support a military action outside the borders of the US, EVER, and only then in the case of invasion, so therefore I don't think my money should be used to pay for such actions.
Further, why were Saudi and Kuwait friends of the US? If we really love freedom, as a nation, we would not associate ourselves with such oppressive dictatorships.
quote: Regarding the Holocaust? Lemme guess, you would say it never happened? Or that it was RIGHT? C'mon, whoever says it never happened is full of it. Nazi officials even admitted to it. Ever heard of Albert Speer? Yeah he opposed it, but he knew it was happening. |
Where did I deny the Holocaust happened? I was just proving a point - neither of us were there, yet we can still say it was wrong.
quote: By the way, read the UN reports on Iraqi chemical weapons/biological weapons. You'll find that there is more than enough weapons in Iraq to kill all life on earth, and I'm talking just biological here. |
The US and Russia have far more weapons than that, so should we take on them next?
It's not as if Saddam is going to destroy the world, come on now.
Kramerman,
quote: Only if it is intentional |
Or grossly negligent. Bombing a civilian center is murder, whether or not you "intend" to kill civilians.
quote: How is that relevant? Im sorry, but what happened at Auschwitz is a completely different circumstance than the Gulf War. |
Of course, but Mesh made a comment that I wasn't qualified to comment on the Gulf War because I wasn't there. I responded that neither of us were at Auschwitz, yet we could still morally condemn the Holocaust.
quote: Then what are you complaining about? |
Because Saddam not being a nice guy isn't an excuse to kill hundreds of thousands of people - or, quite frankly, an excuse to kill him.
quote: There can be a police action, where the President may deploy troops into hostilities for up to 60 days (IIRC), but for more time he must ask Congress for permission to continue, or ask them to declare war. |
That isn't Constitutional.

.01 hundreds of years ago. You're such a patriot, in the worst sense of the wor, that you are completely blind to the continued abuses that the US government heaps upon the Indian nations.
BTW, you weren't calling for people to have their right to free speech taken away, you were calling for people to be executed at worst, and imprisoned at best, by declaring them traitors. That's a very serious charge which carries very serious consquences. They, on the other hand, are putting their lives on the line to defend other people from people like you and our government. If you people weren't such monsters, decent Americans wouldn't have to risk their lives helping innocent civilians.

Some points, though, Che :
- noone doubts that there is a population that lived in this area before the end of the 19th century, that was defined as arab.
- I, personally doubt that any palestinian identity separate from the general falah arabic one can be found before the late 20s.
however, I'd be glad if someone could point it out. A strong separate palestinian identity only forms after the existance of Israel.
-Nowadays, that such identity exists, It should be treated as one. |
Your points are all valid, comrade, especially the last one. Those who wish to say that there is no such thing as a Palestinian ought to do well to remember that before 1948, there was no such thing as an Israeli either.
Nationalism isn't a natural identity but one that arises due to shared historical experiences. Today there are both Israelis and Palestinians. All sides need to remember that. Neither group has a superior or inferior claim to their shared homeland, and neither group has someplace else to go.

then the attacks continue. Although they will be hugely reduced.
A free palestine will rally the world around Israel while the last shades of terrorist attacks continue and they will be deatl with.
Israel was and is not the only country which has had terrorist attacks and is not the first country that can make them go away with the right (and very brave) strategy.

Azazel, the sustainable (because of US backing) alternative is to live like you do now.
Terrorist attack, IDF operation, terrorist attack, IDF operation ad infinitum.

Btw, you have just fully justified Bin Laden. The US had proclaimed themselves his enemies, even before 9/11, so they were fair game. Whatever you say.

You know, there are people monitoring the internet these days, and they now take threats seriously, you seem to have made quite a few.....
