Can Warrior 3 go 263 next turn? We don't need the garrison for happiness, and even if a Warrior shows up after we will be back in the city before it could attack.

The only real risk we are taking is if a Warrior were to show up 44. We would only be in the city and not fortified when they could potentially attack. EDIT: looking at it again, this risk isn't there, we'd be fortified. Chances of that happening are almost nil given the central hut position being unpopped last turn.

After moving 263, we can move back 7 to the road, and then 484 the next turn to get a look at that tile 444 from Apolyton. This is a no risk move, as even if a Warrior shows up at the worst possible place we will be back and fortified in Apolyton before they could attack.

Just want to reiterate the point in the above post.

We lose nothing, risk nothing, by taking a look at 263 from Apolyton with our Warrior. We gain a look at some land surrounding our potential 2nd or 3rd city site. Given our Warrior deficiency and build queue at this point, we won't be able to check once we are at 2 turns from size 3 until after our first Settler. At which point, the information doesn't help us decide in our city placement.

Yes, you're right. I'm used to playing Deity, so garrisoning is always a must whenever I play. We may even be able to go 1 tile further. Aeson, can you calculate how far away we can go safely before we have to start heading back?

With 6+ barbs on the loose, we can't put anything to risk, not now...

We could slide 1 after the move (if no unit shows up at our borders that turn) with no only added risk, but we don't uncover any more tiles.

Moving away from the road one tile will add the risk that if a unit shows up on our borders 44, 22 (both are possible given our exploration) or 88 (very unlikely) we wouldn't be able to get back into the city in time.

Actually there is a risk involved. If a Warrior from the S or E is at 222 this turn, and their team goes after we do, we can't defend our Worker and would have to attack to defend the city.

What we can do with no risk is move 22 this turn, then 6 the next. We don't uncover any of the beach view, but won't open ourselves up.

I support almost any decision to explore a bit further with W3 at this point. The chances that an enemy Warrior comes right up to out borders, crosses them and attacks us is quite low, IMO. I'm confident in our diplomats' ability in ensuring a safe atmosphere in the early-game. We just need to make sure to time things so that those wandering Barbs do not have time to come and harass us while W3 is on his little excursion.

And let me be the first to share an obvious feeling (if those exist): I really hope W2 survives the Barb onslaught.

In the case that the E barb (in the S) beelines for us, we have 3 turns to work with before our Worker or tiles are in danger. That gives us enough time for 22, then 6, but we can't go any further out than that if the E barb isn't accounted for.

Beelines by barbs are somewhat rare (I've been running a lot of quick tests watching them), but it's really only a 2 tile beeline (roughly 1/56 chance as they wander pretty much randomly) until they are within targetting range and would beeline for our worker/city/improvement.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I forgot about it too, we could have done the 263 safely on the first turn. Oh well, this will show the 2 land tiles just as well, which is it's major purpose.

I'm pretty sure the Consuls understand this, but better safe than sorry... At any point where a foreign military presence shows up in the sight of alva or Apolyton, we have to abort and get back on the road (or not get off it if they show up this turn).

Bah. A general knows that anything can be planned for.

Given our situation we could come up with a series of hypothetical contact situations. Say they're aggressive, do we relent? Do we push our position? Neutral? Should we try to press our border or hide our situation?

You see, schemes can be written up for anything.

I think a majority of his time right now is occupied trying to arrange for the various ambassadors so that we are in a position to capitalise on contact.

I think he has his thoughts in order as to how to proceed. Get information and establish as good of terms as possible ASAP. Thereby he will accomodate our team to proceed down whichever actual road we decide to go down at our leisure.

If I went into a war with that mindset, either A) we'd lose, or B) I'd lose my job.

No problems though, I'm just being my usual "we must plan everything!" self, and giving Tom O a hard time.

W3 'Alva' will begin moving east into the peninsula to scout. We will boost the luxury slider up to compensate for this until W4 is completed, but we will gain a head start on scouting the peninsula, and Vondrack has told me we will be going over BW by 2 beakers anyways.

Okay, here is a full summary of the MOW's scouting plan, and all that goes along with it:

On turn 25, W3 'Alva' will leave Apolyton, moving 2-6-3 (South-East-Southeast), which will put him on a course to approach the eastern peninsula from a horizontal angle. This head start from the road should give us the advantage over the CDG Warrior scouting to the east. W3 'Alva' will continue moving directly east until he sees something interesting to divert his path.

On the same turn, the luxury slider will have to be increased for 1 turn to compensate for the loss of the garrison. Vondrack has told me that we'll be overshooting the research cost on BW by 2 beakers anyways, so this won't affect our research. The 1 turn will not allow enough time for either a barbarian or other teams' Warrior to sneak in before our next Warrior is completed on turn 26.

This Warrior (W4) will remain in Apolyton as a garrison. After that a second Warrior (W5) will be produced in Apolyton to help garrison Apolyton as we build our next city. After that, we'll build a Settler, and Dominae will figure out the build queue from there.

Meanwhile, W2 'BigFree' will continue moving south to make contact with GCA. Hopefully the FA Ministry will be able to negotiate with GCA to allow us to continue scouting. If not, then he will have to be routed in another direction.
