Which means he has experience in such things and thus makes me leary.

OTOH, we need to be able to trust other teams not to accept any information which may have come from cheating. So, I'm going to say we should let him in in the next few day unless someone posts otherwise.

I think this is sufficient. We need not even make him take the pledge, just make sure he reads it and is aware of its responsibilites. I never "took the pledge" (except in my own mind), and I don't think we need even treat absolute newcomers to any difference, as small as this is.

Sound fair? We needn't grill every newcomer, even if we don't know them much. People who have registered immediately before asking to join should be viewed a little more cautiously, but I think we need only really to PM a copy of the pledge to every newcomer or get them to read it before we let them in.

I don't imagine it will ever be an issue, but this is a way of getting any new members to accept by proxy, without the risk of feeling suspected. We are merely ensuring everyone knows the rules of the game they have signed up to. If they have a problem after reading it, then fine. If not then let's take that as acceptance of taking the pledge. Perhaps just a dignity-saving measure..?

Hi there everyone. Thanks to all for the trust implied in authorizing me to join the ISDG! I won't let you down.

Well, since forum newbies seem to be introducing themselves, my experience with Civilization dates back to Civ2. I played CTP1 & 2, but didn't seek out a fan website until I started playing Civ3. I've played it off and on for about two years and haunted 'Poly for most of that time, but I never registered. I usually only frequented the strategy forum and archives so I'm still fairly new to the Democracy games. But after wandering the C3DG forum and joining that, the ISDG sounded intriguing too.

Thanks again to all of you for the vote of confidence!

The only problem I would have is his willingness to give us information about the other continent that we didn't gain on our own (i.e. before we had contact with CGN and firaxis, etc). That would be a cheat of sorts in my opinion. Wasn't there something about this after we defeated CDG regarding a moratorium on joining other teams? I'm not sure.

This would definitely be cheating. He would give us information we have absolutely no other way of gaining. If he joins our team at all - which borders on shady right there - then he shouldn't tell us any of that.

Frankly, I'm not real keen on the whole notion of people joining other teams after their team is out anyhow. WTF? What happened to loyalty? Team-jumping every time the team you're on loses strikes me as exceedingly mercenary.

We can do this on our own. We don't need any "private informations."

Astroligix has been a valued member of the RP team (along with just a few others that are on Grenouille). As long as he does NOT give us any information and 1BC allows it and waits 20 turns (that helps to reduce any current info), then I would be o.k. with him joining.

The ruling was that they could join other teams that their civ had contact with. No wait.

We need clarification for those from a team that we will never contact due to their deceased status, but with whose neighbours we will gain contact.

No offense F-P, but I feel insulted that you judge someone without even knowing him. He's well known in the RP team as well as in the Spanish forum. I can vouch not only for his skills as a civ player but as a very honest and worthy person.

Above your loyalty to the team is your loyalty to the game. Plus, not everyone sticks to one forum. We have people who are big posters in more than one site. Examples are GhengisFarb, SirRalph and Astrologix. Some of these people were at odds to pick the team to join at first. Now that it's defeated, I see no problem to join the other major site that they are active in.

I wouldn't mind having him aboard, he's a fine person. The thing is, he must understand (and so should we) that we cannot find out ANYTHING from him. That includes, who killed them off, who they were at war with, why they were at war.

I think it may be too tempting to either divulge or try to get this information from him, especially since it is still pertinent. Providing 1BC accepts, I think we should wait a couple of turns.

20 seems EXCESSIVE though. At the pace we've been going, that is roughly 2 months before he can join any team :P
