What are your plans? Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Boris, Redjon, Starchild, Asher, and anyone else interested -- what are your plans for Gay Pride, if you have any plans for this annual event?

Me and a good friend plan to stay over night in Milwaukee on its Gay Pride weekend. That will be my first Gay Pride visit to Milwaukee -- been to Chicago's Gay Pride twice.

I don't know if this is accurate, but I heard in Argentina.. people in the gay pride parade had to wear masks because of fear of police retribution. This is what I heard in a US state department report. I don't think I will attend one if there be one here in Buenos Aires.

MrFun, everything else aside, what does Gay Pride do for your movement?

I understand that you want to be proud of who you are, and you have that right. You have the right to organize, you have the right to parade, all that good stuff, but what does it do other than make you feel better about yourself?

as Fez said, there are possible backlashes. not only that, theres just simply the fact that it seems like the Gays are just "forcing" it on everyone, with their "we're here, we're queer, get used to it" motto.

So, elighten me. I'm sure you'll come up with valid points. I'm genuinely curious as to what you think such activities do for you gay community.

As I don't have much of it in myself... but I'm not a dlck enough to say no to a friend even if it is a gay bar. I mean, take a good look at me, it's not like I have a small penis

I personally don't think gay pride is necessary or even beneficial for the community, which is why I largely ignore it.

I think it's better to elminate boundaries and feelings of being different, rather than promote how different we are.

bingo.

so you're gay. are you a good guy? do i have to know you're gay? do you have to come out and shout it at me before i get to know you at all?

when it comes, it comes, but i dont see why anyone would want to introduce sterotypes before actually talking to people.

Exactly. Gay pride parades are retroactive in my opinion. Especially in Argentina. What happened here is the police go after people who didn't wear masks to seal their identify and did some awful things to them. There is also a group called Alizana Anti-comunista Argentina that has had a record of dealing some awful things.

These gay parades just damage the gay population.. they do nothing to help tolerance. That is why I'd never consider joining one.

Homosexuals have long been shoved into social closets and forbidden to disclose their sexual orientation in the same way that heterosexuals do.

Gay Pride seems to have originated as a form of direct, active protest against injustices against homosexuals. Some claim that the first Gay Pride protest emerged the next day from the Stonewall protest in New York City in 1969. Gay Pride continues to serve as a method of protest for homosexuals, while at the same time, retaining a festive, celebratory atmosphere.

I will never forget the first time I went to Gay Pride -- it was in Chicago in the year 2000. I was really inspired to see so many homosexuals, bisexuals and other types of non-heterosexuals. I realized afterwards that our situation is not that hopeless. So in another way, Gay Pride events can help uplift young homosexuals struggling to acccept themselves.

Homosexuals are not forcing their sexual orientation -- unless they are immature jerks looking to shock people in inappropriate behavior that would not be appropriate for straight people, as well.

Many homosexuals are demanding social acceptance to the extent that they can comfortably express themselves the same way as heterosexuals. And that they can publicly celebrate life's milestones, such as a life-long, monomgamous relationship.

Like any minority group, we have our extremists as well. Those who seek to alienate and shock others through outrageous, inappropriate behavior. They are just one of the groups undermining the continuing gay civil rights movement.

Oh believe me, Gay Pride parades and events are very much part of the gay civil rights movement. There are many sub-groups that display political statements and stage political protests -- same way that other gay gatherings you are thinking of do.

Gatherings that help young gay people like me accept their sexuality is definitely a superb idea.

But do you really think these in your face marches actually help anybody? They just cause more violence here in Argentina.. after what I been reading in State Department and other non-government reports.

I went to a local gay youthgroup monday night.

It was a total dud, they're all so freaky and we played a queer version of Cranium which had questions like "What's Madonna's Real Name?" and "Sculpt a penis with your eyes closed and make your teammates guess it".

I said a superb idea... if it actually lived up to potentials.

I never actually been to any meetings... but that sounds like a dud indeed.

Last time there was such a chance.. I was a fascist.. and in bad shape (when I was claiming I was straight).. I terrorized those folks at the meeting. They had to actually move it because of me.

I regret those actions.

I didn't have to do that one. Another group did.

I did meet someone there who knew me from online (my livejournal). He was a total ****ing ass, too. He got pissed off at me because I didn't pay much attention to him. He doesn't seem to care that I was with my bf and didn't want to dedicate my time talking to some boring geek in political science.

perhaps this is my ignorance speaking, infact it is, so forget it, i'll just ask it as a question: what percentage of gays are completely monomagous?

Hell if I know. There is not just one type of "gay".

Some are total sluts, some are in "open" relationships, some are totally monogamous.

I'm the latter...

I honestly don't know who there are more of. Of the people I hang out with, the vast majority of them are monogamous.

On the other hand, the club scene is likely much different.

Judge people as individuals! You are "Mr.Fun" not an "Adult White Male Homosexual".

I've got nothing agianst people's right to organize, but I think it detracts from the movement. Gay rights are important because all individuals should be entitled to the same rights, but why that is necessary through the flaunting of something about you that you can't change is beyond me.

Do heterosexuals go around having heterosexual pride parades? How would it make you feel if we did? Excluded, right? Alien? Not welcome? How do you think these Homosexual Pride parades make Heterosexuals feel? The same thing.

Monogamy versus open relationships can sometimes be a hot-button issue among homosexuals themselves.

Some gays argue that men, through natural evolution behave like most males of other mammal species -- they are not monogamously inclined -- they go after one female after another. So these people argue that monogamous relationships between two men who are both not naturally monogamously inclined, are not likely to succeed in a monogamous relationship. The only reason that heterosexual marriages survive the way they do (not ones ending in divorce) is because the woman plays the balancing part against the man's natural sexual tendencies.

This is their argument, but while I understand their argument, I still believe that two men can establish a successful, monogamous relationship. The problem is that not very many gay men want to try and make the effort since it takes a lot of work. I believe that gay men can overcome this natural sexual tendency argued above, even with the absence of a female partner/spouse. I desire a monogamous relationship.

I argue that the anti-gay laws in United States help to prevent homosexuals from embracing the family values that many conservatives claim are important in society. Often, the same conservatives who complain that homosexuals constantly seem to fail to embrace family values, advocate for laws that prevent or discourage homosexuals from embracing such family values.

In spite of these homophobic obstacles though, there are a minority of homosexuals who create stable families of their own through legal loopholes and legal tactics. How many more homosexuals would create good families with the absence of anti-gay laws?

In other words, anti-gay laws seem to discourage the development of more strong monogamous relationships among gay men.

Oh, and as for the original question about what percentage of homosexuals believe in monogamy -- I don't know if there was ever a survey conducted to find out.

Well Mr Fun, not all conservatives are like that. There is probably a difference between an Euro-conservative and an American one, as an I am euro conservative but I do support equal rights for all.
