I too dislike splitting up our forces. BUT - I dislike even more giving CoD and Python a highway into our core. There is the horse stack out there waiting to come down - and if they got into the core - well - you see my point. Past Ft Siamang it gets much harder to defend our territory. The Python stack is past Ft Siamang now - so we deal with it. Unless of course it turns and attacks Siamang next turn. In which case I propose the option mentioned above.

No word yet from Python.

First of all please dont take me the wrong way.

The main reason I enjoy this game is because I really enjoy playing with you and H_E. And I believe we can all say whats on our mind in the spirit of bouncing ideas to come up with the best solution.

I too hate to give them a highway to our core. But I am concerned about splitting our forces. Sooner or later they will bring more troops and sooner or later they can eliminate a strong point one by one and it will be easier if our forces are split.

Sooner or later we are going to have to make that choice.

I just wish they would attack for Petes sake

con - agreed completely. Sorry if I sounded defensive. I just really believe that keeping Ft Siamang intact and garrisoned is the way to go. Dung Hill was not a good idea. We needed H_E in the chat.

But I really do belive we have an OK strategy going here. If they attack Ft Siamang this turn - we move forwad - build the new city 9-9 of Orang - bombard - and consider if we can attack the survivors of the Python stack. If the move south - Ft Siamang will continue to block their way. I agree that we need to scramble together a second defensive stand - but walls in Orang - with the remaining mercs and cats - I don't think they can take it.

AND - this plan keeps them from simply spreading out from Orangutan to Macaque and swamping us.

That's my thinking.

Three other things.

1. we need to get a unit to Monkey Island.
2. we need to be awar of other galley landins on our east coast
3. we need to decide if I send my letter to Tabemono. We have contact - but no world map. We can ask for it - but to be honest, I would really rather have a Save the Simians Homeland Crusade.

And btw - I thoroughly enjoy the ooportunity to be on the same team as you and H_E as well.

No you didn't sound defensive at all, I just wanted to make sure my post came across the right way.

And I concur with the plan as it stands.

One thing to think about is taking the warriors and making them coast watchers.

They are not good for much else, or use them for MP's in cities to keep production up.

But I like coast watchers for galleys.

The other role for the warriors is to finish off wounded horsemen.

btw - Oct X has replied to my inquiry about 'fortify all' with:

quote:
Beta,

The use of said mechanic was unintentional on my part. My understanding of
how the mechanic worked was that the other units (other than the ones that
could fortify) wouldn't gain a defensive bonus, only those that were
actually allowed to fortify would.

If I'm mistaken, or if you still feel I should replay the save, I'd be more
than happy to do so.

My sincere apoligies for troubling you,

Octavian

So - I gather we play on???? This more or less confirms what you had stated H_E.

And H_E - are you on-side with the plans as they stand? I will wait until tomorrow morning my time (9am est or 14:00 gmt) to play the turn.

I am happy to play on with what we got.

My only suggestion is to pull back our settler.
1. It's another city we have to defend.
2. They may just bypass it completely.

Also... maybe we need our galleys back to evac Siamang.
If they dont attack, we can ferry the mercs back.

Also... Lets make contact with UNO asap

But everything else is fine.

Whether we talk to UnO or not before the save send them the map unaccepted.

Our WORLD Map

Because thats what I want from them.

And no Im not realy worried about giving up that info, its not gonna make much difference in the next 20 turns or so anyway.

But I want to get an idea of where if we need to "Voxodus".

370bc turn played

As was discussed:

http://apolyton.net/upload/view.php...onkey-370bc.JPG

Settler to the road. Galleys moving south. Catapults moving north. More units out next turn.

There are 6 mercs on the tile noth of Orangutan.
There are 4 mercs, 5 catapults, 1 archer, and 3 warriors in Orangutan.

Ranger Joe - now elite - kills another barb horseman.

On to next turn - with monkey fingers crossed.

I was out for a walk and thinking about this game. Yes - we are all very sick individuals.

I am thinking you guys may have been right about abandoning Ft. Siamang. Hopefully the godz of the RNG will shine upon us and make me look like a genius.

And - If there are a number of weakened units left at the current site of the Python stack - they have a simple way of preventing us from mopping up the survivors. They move a horse to the road tile and pillage it. I hadn't thought of that.

Maybe you shouldn't give me the keys to the army. I'll put it in the ditch.

Then again - if the stack moves south - we have an OK setup - or if they attack and we win, or if they attack, and decimate themselves AND forget to pillage the road - we can finish them off.

I guess time will tell. (Maybe I should give up walks.)

Yep, Im having fun but definately not taking this one too seriously

IF they pilliage the road then just counterattack until they have on unit left, end of the problem.

IF we can counter.

But have those galleys ready just in case for EVAC>

And we need to get a read on where the CoD galleys are.

Hi guys. I am out of town and off-line for the next four days. Over to you to play the save.

Good luck with the RNG.

If possible - I see building a city two tiles north of Orangutan on the road. And bombarding.

I think most of the cities were set up for optimal production - either 7 or 10 shields.

Need to decide whether the galley picks up the Macaque NM, or whther it picks up one from down south instead. We should have NM on monkey island just in case.

And here's a toast to the defenders of Ft Siamang - may the foe impale themselves on their sharp spears, and retereated from their brave hearts. Huzzah!

See ya Sunday.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Either of us can play.

I dont think we need to rush our turn.
I'd like to have a look at the save, and will then post some suggestions.
If you can do the same, we can agree to a strategy pretty quickly.

The new fort city sounds good to me....but do we have enough mercs in the south that can move into it ?
Otherwise, if they take the city, they will also take our cats.

Galleys....need to be brought home to evac siamang.

And, I think warriors may be needed at home to kill loose horsemen.

But when I look at the next save, I will know more.

When we do get the save, can you please post an initial screen shot - if anything key has happened. It will make providing comments a lot easier.

Thanks. Beautiful day here in Vancouver. Sunny and 12deg C. Going up to 18 tomorrow. Maybe there is something about this west-coast living after all.

Here is the situation

http://apolyton.net/upload/view.php?file=21934_350bc.jpg

I think Siamang is going to get pummeled next turn.
Cod gets first shot with their horses.
They will take 1-2 pips off, and then retreat.

Then Python Catapults for more pips
Then Python horses (gambling on retreats) for more pips
The Swords will then finish us off.

My suggestions...

1. Siamang must be kept at pop1. At pop2, when they take the city, it will not autoraze.
So we rush something this turn. Note that the walls are gone (their cats doing) so I suggest we rush walls.

2. We build a new city just under the Python Stack on the road.
Move in all of our mercs & fortify
Move in the catapults & target the stack...hopefully do some damage.

3. The galleys keep moving north, to pick up any survivors. (I dont think there will be any)

The other option is to attack the Python stack after the cats & city...but I dont like our odds
So I vote no on this.

And our final option, is to hang tight, and do nothing with the settler, and keep the mercs in the core.

My vote is for the new city & cats.

I dont think we can win or drive them off our lands.
But we can make then pay for every victory with blood.

If you guys agree...then con can play the save when he is up.

I dont think the galleys are going to do us much good at this point. One is three turns away from EVAC and the other is 4 turns away from EVAC.

Lets keep moving them north and hope for the best.

Since we are building the new city, we should have enough time to turn them around if we need to.

Should we move a worker up to pop walls in the new city? I dont know where the workers are in que.

Ill look at the save today sometime. And Ill try and think up a new name for the city

Thanks for posting the situation H_E. And it is better than I thought. They did not pillage the road.

I am heavily in favor of the new city and the bombardment. I agree we will just be targeting spears - but their offensive units will take a beating next turn. And - depending on how badly, there may be an opportunity to do further damage, and maybe grab the catapults.

I agree that we rush walls in Ft Siamang - and thus reduce the pop back to size 1.

Also - moving the galleys to pick up survivors seems like a moot point. Keep them going south. And do we pick up a NM from macaque this turn to transport over there?

And make sure avaialble warriors move in to the new city as well. They may be critical in finishing off wounded horsemen - if indeed we get that far.

As to a name:The Holy Grill came up in chat awhile back.

Or Dung Pile

Yup - the new city will make for a very interesting situation. I was thinking we may want to use a worker to up the pop immediately so we can rush walls.

But they are taking their sweet time about attacking - which leads me to believe that something else is up, and why I am suggesting we get a merc over to Monkey Island.

Good luck guys. The weather out here in Vancouver continues to be fabulous.

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

OK I have taken a thourough look at the save this morning, and I have a few questions:

1. Moving the worker into "The Holy Grill", the new city. Even if I stop the worker working (will be done in two turns) he is "frozen", and if I move a worker from down south up the farthest he can get is the tile where the worker is mining outside of Orangutan. So that means no matter what the earliest I (or we) can rush walls in "the Holy Grill" is three turns.

-This turn freeze or move up worker.
-Next turn move the worker into "The Holy Grill" (it wil take up all three movements with either worker we go with. Then pop rush walls on the third move.

With that being said, I am going to opt for bringing the southern worker up and lte the worker outside of Orangutan continue mining. Unless you guys feel differently.

2. The galleys and the NM to Monkey Island. I would feel a LOT better having an NM on the Island, so I will move at least one galley into place and pick up a nw NM just built on the west coast. BUT what about the econd galley, should they move north incase we have survivors? It maybe a mute point, and the worst that can happen is we lose two turns of movement. Thoughts?

The rest of the stuff is clear cut, build "The Holy Grill" and catapult the piss out of them

Ill play in a few hours so if I dont hear from you guys, I will do what I think is best.

Played like we discussed.

The cats got 3 out of 5 possible hits.

One of the idle workers down south was moved up north for the pop rush, worker outside of Orangtan kept mining, done after next turn. Worker down south set to mining the next unmined tile.

The wounded barb fighting NM dowm south reentered the city to heal.

The new NM from the west coast loaded on a galley and headed for Monkey Island.

All cats and all the rst of he new NMs moved towards or into Orangutan.

Ill post some screenies next

Hi - back from Vancouver.

Looks good guys. I wonder what they will do next turn. I suspect attack Ft Siamang.

btw - I played the save this morning as well - just for the fun of it - and got the same 3 out of 5 hits. I also attached with Sting the archer. He got hit by a catapult (down to two HP's), and then proceeded to kill a sword - losing one more HP in the process.

Again - archers would be useful for counter-attack purposes. We can get 3 archers for every two mercs. And I agree, they are useless on defence.

con - I agree with the Merc on monkey island and the comfort level thing. We need to have an escape route.
