i dont see how backing the south, who continually enslaved a people and led to many deaths is any less offensive than backing nazi germany. i don't see how showing the symbols of said groups is ay different.

just because the germans were better at it means it's taboo?

The Nazis initiated a war of aggression to conquer and subjugate other nations, AND instituted the largest organized genocide in history, AND practiced slave labor with prisoners and captive populations. A bit of a shade of difference there.

i don't see how the south is much different, save the middle one. perhaps the south didn't actively go out and subjigate the people, but they had no bones about letting it thrive.

1st of all, you speak as if the north never had slavery. Ha!

2nd, Most of the founding fathers had slaves...by your logic we should equate them to Hitler? Give me a break.

3rd, All the South wanted (and still wants) was to be left alone. You yankees have your ideas...that's fine. Where we take offense is when you try to impose them on us. The Germans were expansionist, genocidal thugs. There is NO correlation with the South then or now...Boy.

Nor did the north when it was useful - they built the ships and bankrolled it (northern banks had over 130,000,000 in outstanding slave loans to southern landholders at the time of Sumter, which was a hell of a lot of money in those days)

The English were quite happy with it when they were in the colonizing business, etc. etc.

The south didn't launch any war of aggression - the south fought purely to achieve it's independence.

I doubt the politicians of that time would have risked hundreds of thousands of lives and the collapse of the fledgling economy just to save slaves, so please tell me about the other motives, thanks .

Crap. Most Southern states were already discussing an end to slavery. Topics included things like retraining to prepare them to be able to function in society. Almost noone expected that slavery would last another 15-20 years. What the yankees did, far from really freeing slaves, was to destroy te economy around them and put them in a position to be 2nd class citizens for the next 100 years.

Nothing could be truer than the Victors write the history books. The truth about the south is far from what you learned in your yankee high school.
