Hi Octavian X,

According to the original estimates, Tabemono should discover GP in about 2 turns. I've written to them asking for confirmation of this. We've been funding them 65gpt for researching this. I reckon your Monotheism should arrive in about 14 turns, is that right? Do you have a deal worked out with Tabemono for that and GP?

If you have spare workers, perhaps they could head for possible SP sites on hills or mountains in readiness.

Cort

Cort Haus,

Your estimates are correct: 13 turns until monotheism as of now.

I'm afraid, though, that we've not talked with Tabemono about monotheism and gp. I'll send a message to them as well inquiring about pricing and such. Thanks for the reminder, though.

One more thing - we've finished upgrading our force of archers into longbowmen. We're waiting mostly to see if we have any saltpeter available to upgrade some spears to musketeers. It won't be something to hold up the war over, given that we really can't afford more upgrades anyway with as large a military as we're handling. Python is ready, nonetheless, and better sooner than later, I think, given that now our military is rated stronger than that of the Monkeys.

Hi Octavian X,

We will have Gunpowder in two turns. Our Spearmen are in Silkfest praying for Saltpeter, and the rest of the stack is being assembled as you have seen - we should have ~20LB and 20cats at the front in 6-7 turns. I hope that's not too late for you guys.

We withdrew our stack to Siege Perilous 1 away from the new Monkey city. They're obviously going for more upkeep.

If we do have SP in our territory it might need hooking up. You indicated before that you weren't planning on Musket upgrades, but do you have a deal with Tabemono for Gunpowder. If not, and you have SP but we don't, then we'd need to get you Gunpowder before you could trade us the SP. We might have to speak to Tabemono about that. Most of our workers are hacking the jungle, so we'll be near the mountains & hills there, but if SP appeared in the hills near Izzardia, might you have a couple of spare super-Pythonian workers nearby to help reach it?

Cort

Hello Cort,

We have about 20 spears, 30 longbows, and 17 cats either in or on their way to Siege Perilous. We can wait longer, though we're ready when you are. A delay only means a larger army on our side of things.

We need to talk to Tabejin again about Gunpowder. We did contact them early, but discussion died off. I plan to PM them again soon. A lot of it, though, is contingent on whether or not there's actually enough saltpeter to go around - if it's in CoD's territory, and there's none for us at home, we'll wait gunpowder out a bit longer for a chance at a lower price.

If you guys do have gunpowder, though, we can help some with the roading effort - There's a large stack of workers near our border, and two headed north from Siege Perilous, just in case.

And, as to the city-that-won't-be, thanks for the heads up.

Anyway, about saltpeter: I uprooted a ton of workers who were mining around some other places of the homeland. They're on there way to Gorge of Eternal Peril, and should have a road there in 4-5 turns.

We can upgrade five, hopefully six, Muskets next turn in Silkfest and start moving the following turn. They could save a turn by using the Python road and enable the combined attack to start sooner. It's up to you - if you wanted to get started sooner and don't mind some of your reinforcements being delayed a turn, then you could leave a space for the Muskets.

My apoligies for the mix-up. I've got those extra workers on the side of our current road to 'widen the lane,' so to speak, to ease movement.

However you wish to move your troops is up to you guys. By all means, feel free to use our section of the road to speed up the process - a stack of muskets will be a bit more important than a few straggling longbows and spears.

We are basically ready to attack whenever you are, though I'd like to wait until we can upgrade at least one spear in Siege Perilous to start our GA on the first wave. We also should discuss our strategy of attack. I'm thinking it might be best to split our stacks into two groups each - one group from each nation goes in on the coasts of Monkeyland, and and other two halves go down the middle, all simultaneously threatening all Monkey border cities on the first wave - four cities, iirc. Thoughts?

The jungle clearing is going down very well though, and we can certainly taunt the tree-hugging apes with that, though

Arrian sent you a PM saying we're ready to Rock and Roll on our next turn. We have 23 Longbows 22 Catapults, 15 Horsemen, 8 Muskets and a Heavily-made-up-Swordsman. As two stacks would spread the defenders thin and Monkey have a zillion cats, CoD would have to be use one stack probably.

Well, Monkey have partly taken Trip's advice, and partly followed their own pattern of elastic defence.

I'm awaiting comments in our forum, but it looks like CoD go to Orang7 while Python go to Mandrill6, Monkey will be expecting this, but at least we've split them. We would be split too though, which they might favour as they could attack one stack without getting hit by the counter from the other stack.

The trouble with the above is that the big MOnkey stack could slip behind us if it is now in Orang and we would have to chase it North. Perhaps Orang8 would be better. Any thoughts from Python?

We won't hurry over our move. Monkey spent nearlky a week on theirs.

Thanks for the info. Octavian did post the news in our private forum.

Good move by the Monkeys, separating our forces. It seems that we either allow it to happen or allow them a "free" attack before one of our stacks reaches another Monkey city. Moving both our stacks toward the same city might allow us to force the bulk of their defences to be used up. Perhaps that's what we should do? If we separate, we risk serious losses without much gain.

I'm going away today and will be back on wednesday, so any further communications should go through other members of Monty Python.

Sounds like a good plan, given that Mandril is essentially the corner of Monkeyland. I'm not entirely sure, though, that Monkey would keep that many units in Gorilla, given that mercenaries have a definite advantage over horses, and we would definetly have to move on after one or two turns if we hadn't taken the city by then, since Monkey would've been able to call up more troops to the area.

Keep in touch,

Hi Pythons,

Here's the latest thinking - and this is still before all opinions are in:

Due South is an attractive move, continuing the pattern of threatening one city with two stacks which has worked twice. There's just the rat-run to the north if they've a decent wad in Orang that worries me. They could really embarrass us.

They won't hit us in the open, as they can't scamper back and heal in time, and they won't hit us from a city IF the other stack can hit the city next turn.

I suspect they want to hit us when they are in a city and the other stack can't retaliate immediately, allowing them to heal.

If so, the move I suggested first (CoD to Orang7 and Python to Gorilla9) could be dangerous as one stack could be hit with everything from a city and they can heal before the other stack reaches. In which case the safest move is a 3-stager :

1. CoD move 6 to Orang 87 (where we can be joined by 4 more units including a Musket) and Python 3 to Gorilla89
2. Both move east - CoD to Orang89 and Python to Orang87.
3. Both move south - CoD to Orang9 and Python to Orang7.

Directly south is attractive, but Monkey could march most of their army north - up the road out of Gorilla and three tiles to the northwest of our stacks. We'd be forced to chase after them - or they would take Siege Perilous and more. We'd need a defence plan in case they did that.

Cort,

Ultimately, if Monkey *does* march out in a barbarian uprising style attack, it might be good for us. We can easily replace some of our southern towns, if it comes to that. While Monkey marches north, we cut roads & retreat, while producing nothing but units (same with Python). Meanwhile, our primarly forces destroy their core. By the time Monkey's forces start threatening any really valueable city, we will have mustered a pretty solid counterattacking force, and should be able to destroy them... I hope.

Our southern towns are giving us a lot of commerce - about 50 in fact, and Monkey could pillage and force us to disband at will. We won't have an new army to withstand them in the north in the ten turns it would take them to get there. For example, they can arrive at Silkfest in 10 turns (assuming roads cut). We can't start building spears for another 2 turns, and then they have to be upgraded and delivered. If their stack could knock out our southern stack, it can knock out anything smaller, and we won't build anything big in 10-20 turns. Then there's the WW, the cost of replacing cities and worker-turns, risk of monkey leaders, (Armies), possible loss of Silkfest, loss of commerce and inability to support 2nd large army even if we can build one in time.

I'm sure Monkey would love to do that to us - what sweet revenge. I really don't want to give them the chance. If we moved south and they went north we'd have to chase them.

Another idea would be to head for Orangutan, thus closing the way for a counter-attack that could outrun us. One team would head for Orangutan 87, while the other would go to Orangutan 88.
