Yet another wild idea....
(Actually, my already shot down idea from before, that I am recycling)

I have never had success in my PBEMS when the defender knows which city I am attacking.
They just have every city on military builds, and just keep pouring in units.

I have found it easier to hit softer targets first, rather than taking on the capital.
I have had moderate success in attacking multiple cities and having multiple attack directions.

It forces the defender to split their defences and/or abandon cities.

If they split their forces, it makes the main army offensive far easier. If they abandon their cities, their production base is reduced.

Unless our GA is started, this war is going to take a lot longer than we expected.

So for some longer plans....
How about another Fort? Say 9,8,8 of Balance of Power.
Build a road 9,8 of BoP and that means they have to cover 2 cities.

They will have no idea how many horsemen we have in this new fort, and it will need a sizeable force within it, just in case.

That means less Pikes our MI has to face in Catchapolis.

I fully support them disbanding them too.

I believe we can adapt H_E's idea in light of recent information. They are well fortified in Catchopolis and we need time to prepare. Well, in the mean time we can try to stir up more trouble for them.

I propose we build a new fort city at Catchopolis 4-7 (BoP 6-9-9) with one of the Settlers we have in the area. Building a city there will allow us to threaten Catchopolis in 2 turns (1 to move to hill, 1 more to attack) or BoP in a single turn (with whatever Horsemen we have in the city).

With that threat, they would either have to split their forces defending both cities, risk us being able to take BoP with a minimal defense force (1 or 2 Pikes in the city), or they would have to abandon BoP, and thus make this into a 2-pronged strike on Catchopolis. We could "sell" contact with GCA to CGN and then they could do investigations for us since CFC declared war on GCA officially this turn.

We would ideally build a road down to the fort city via the iron tile allowing us to funnel reinforcements into the city as they arrive (ideally many MIs). Once everything is ready we can march on Catchopolis for the final battle after BoP has been threatened/attacked/abandoned. With supreme force we will win this war.

Ok, another plan has come to light. This time we move all of our forces to 7-4 of Catch and use the settler to build another Fort. Perhaps "Fort Decisive"

We can the get CGN onboard to do some investigations for us on BoP. If its relatively empty we go for it. I would like an investigation of Catch as well from CGN at the same time so that we go after the city that is least defended with GCA having no chance to reinforce either city.

CGN may charge us full price for theses investigations, but we will see. First we ask if they will do it for us, then we ask how much it will cost us.

Got spare money?

That's a really bad place for a city, given GCA's success with horse hit and run tactics. Put it 7 of where it is proposed and it might be defendable.

But putting it 7 from where it is will free their road between Catch and BoP.

Anyway, taking their only source of furs (NE-NE from BoP) will make this move even more worthwhile.

We'll have to hold it. Holding something where they can attack with slow movers without warning is never an easy thing.

We can cut that road with a horse the turn after founding the city at 7 of what has been posted, and we still get the fur.

You have a point here, I admit.

I know we still get the fur; the fur had nothing to do with my other comment. I was only stating that one more pro argument for building the fort is the fact that we will steal their only fur.

I dunno, I think we really need to consider it at "7" of the proposed location. Too easy to attack it from Catch at the original proposed location. It is going to be a while before we can reinforce the army anyway from our core. We need a city we can defend. Because altough its nice to split there forces we also split our forces, lets make "Decisive" defensible.

I like the plan for 4-7-7 of Catchopolis.

Have we considered the effects of their massive culture though? Would that affect our fort cities?

The reason it was placed there was because it allowed a 2-turn attack on Catchopolis or a 1-turn attack on BoP while also cutting their road.

In order to make the location at 7 of the proposed site viable we would need a road to allow us to get adjacent to Catchopolis and to also pillage the road between Catchopolis and BoP.

Culture should not be a problem. Inevitable is size 1 with zero food surplus (only pop is a specialist). No flip risk. Just do the other Forts the same way.

How is the food surplus related with culture flipping?
We have overlapping tiles, it is very close to their capital, they have big culture; tell me a reason why shouldn't we fear a flip.
The only condition not met is the lack of CGA citizens in the fort city; however, this is not a mandatory condition; so yes, I fear a flip. (nevertheless, these forts are a good idea; CF is a risk we have to take)

It's the fact that there's only one citizen that matters. Roadcage probably mentioned the break-even food production because it means that it'll stay a 1-pop town.
Also, I think that cities as safe from culture flipping in the first ten turns or so... I'm sure I've read about it somewhere on this forum.

I very much like the idea retreating, reinforcein, and building a Fort at Catch477.

I'd retreat the stack all the way to the iron mountain, and then move forward en masse with a Settler and reinforcements from there.

We can't go over mountains because we have Catapults. We can either go west now to prepare to build the new fort city (with the Settler being moved SW) or we can retreat and basically give up the fort city idea.

GCA has left a large number of units outside of its ability to retreat them to BoP safely before we can get to them. To further this ability we can build a fort city 4 of where our main army is now. It will allow us to steal 2 road tiles which can be used to attack BoP or the surrounding tiles. The farthest 5 of their units (including 4 Pikes, their Army and 1 MI) can make it next turn is BoP 6. If we build a city at BoP 6-6-8 we will have a shot at destroying these units before they ever make it to BoP.
