Danish National Television's website reports that a tape containing the verses in Arabic, along with the detonators were found in a previously stolen van parked in the town of Alcal de Henares, east of Madrid. 3 of the bombed trains departed from Alcal de Henares, while a fourth made a stopover at the station.

Emperor Fab gave some good reasons why this would appear to be the work of Al Quada, along with the point I mentioned earlier about the attacks occuring exactly 30 months after 9/11.

But we'll know soon enough I think.

Cynical as it may seem, I think most of us are hoping it's the ETA as the thought of Al-Qaeda or similar nutcases beginning to target European capitals is pretty worrying. My condolences to the Spanish.

Honestly, my second thought in this (after the first thought which I already posted) is why the government in Spain would be so quick to label it an ETA action, and what came into my mind was that the gov. was afraid it would make it seem its actions vis a vi Iraq all of a sudden had made spain a target (hence, the government was wrong to get involved). It could still be ETA (the investigation will determine who did it).

I'm still skeptical, as the Quran tapes and such seems a little too convenient. And we have the fact that ETA members have been caught recently with the same kind of explosives used in this attack. I'd have to wonder if ETA made the attack and is trying to pawn off responsibility on Al Queda to deflect blame and raise greater fears. I'm sure Al Queda would be happy to take credit for an attack they didn't make, because it would give an appearance that they had a lot more teeth left than has been given credit.

Too soon to tell, though.

No offense Monk, but that's not only cynical, that's a sick and wretched way to look at the realities of the World today.

Sadly, I fear you're right. I've suspected as much since shortly after 9/11 when I noticed a number of ordinary people started to distance themselves from the Americans and their ordeal. "Good thing it's only the Americans they're after" seemed to be the way a lot of people viewed it.

I have a hard time believing that ETA would jump into bed with AQ on this. I really don't see how that would help them - to do so would bring them under huge scrutiny from the US intelligence forces. Something they really don't need.

I have been following the news from work here in Leeds. Iīm at the hotel now. I cannot believe it!

I am really sad. I didnīt know anyone in Madrid other than the people who work at my company, but they are people and the were Spanish like me. Thatīs terrible.

Right now nothing can be said for sure, but I donīt think it has been AlQaeda. For the one who wants to analyze it with cold mind, there are too much clues that point to ETA. The most important is that they tried it 3 times before. The have suceeded at 4th. Maybe AlQaeda helped. Which would not be surprising considering that both groups have the same goal: Destroy the western civilization.

Letīs see what happens this Sunday. If I had some doubt about who to vote, now all my doubts are cleared.

Acebes, the Secretary of Internal Affairs said this morning that it was ETA and now he is saying that Al-Quaeda is a high possibility.

Stations are speaking about a suicide terrorist in the train.

And this is not the first time the extreme islamist attacks Spain... do you remember attack in Mororoco against Spanish interest?
