Spell descriptions... I wonder how I managed to complete BG1 back in the day. I never bothered with the spell descriptions, so I just cast the ones with the most appropriate names for the situation. Magic Missile was naturally a huge favourite, but unlike now I was completely ignorant when it came to armour classes, thac0, saving throws, hit dice and all the intricacies of the game mechanics. I guess the game just was so simple that equipping new weapons (ahh, the times when a two-handed sword +1 was the greatest thing ever) and clicking the enemies was enough.

Besides, you can get the manuals off of Interplay's website too. The registration needed appears to be free.

But I want a book! Not some dumb downloaded files, which are probably the same .pdf that I've already got.
Young folk today don't appreciate the wonder of a book any more.

Minsc has got a +2 longsword at the moment, and my character has a +1 bow and +2 arrows, and a +1 longsword in case the baddies ever get too close.

I've already got the BGII manual (and the Icewind Dale manual), because I got BGI in the DVD case and it has the manuals all on .pdf files. But that's rubbish to read, and I'm not going to print them out. Work might notice, which would be far from ideal, and my girlfriend would object to my using all her ink cartridge for the fancy artwork graphics.

Have you considered buying a new ink cartridge for your GF? Think of how romantic that could be

I never had the rule book for BG2 for ages.

It was only recently I discovered I had the pdf file on in my file directory for BG2

For spell descriptions I read the in game ones. Those are probably more accurate. As manuals sometimes can be inaccurrate. I think if you right click the spell book entry you get a more detailed decription.

I do read manuals (I even had a thread on it). I just don't have the BG2 manual. Mainly because they are my brother's cd's. He still has the manual over at his house.

I do have the Throne of Bhaal manual though.

But I don't read in bed. I usually read in the living room.

I have a little pile of manuals by the bed. I normally read for 15 minutes in the morning while Mrs J is having her shower. Either a manual, or some Wittgenstein, or look at the cracks in the ceiling again.

Put an end to popups!

Why I oughtta.....

Cheeky so-and-so. You also seem to be trying to (wrongly) convince people that I'm the mafia.
Is that because you're still mad that you weren't checking this thread for traps and got caught?

I should be getting BGII very soon though. Well, I sent off a cheque today, so if the seller is straight (not a bad rating ) then I'll be able to play through from one to the other. In about a year's time, when I finally get round to finishing it.
Mind you, the good duchess has announced that she's going away again for another weekend at the end of May, so maybe I can get a lot played then.

I am now holding down f4 as I read this thread at all times. With autopause "on trap detected"

Besides, my job is to make people vote for the wrong person. I don't want my precious little snuggly mafia to get killed.

Are you getting BG2 second-hand, or from a third party retailer new? Either way - RESIST THE TEMPTATION to spoil the end of BG1 by peeking.

I'm getting it second-hand. The person selling it said that they looked at it a bit, realised that it would take hours of their life to play, and put it back into the box. Foolish!

Since its ok to talk about fantasy worlds in a DnD thread, and to talk about WW2 history in a PG2 thread, would it be ok to talk about my boring chores around the house in a "the Sims" thread, assuming we someday get another one?

It's about as exciting as a game of the Sims.

What have you seen so far Doc? I got mine from one of the associated dealers on amazon, but I've seen people on eBray selling both BG1 and 2 for decent prices, so that's definitely something to think about.

Well there are a few there from £1 upwards. I don't have paypal though, and I'm not keen on it. I saw BG1 (no xpack) online for £9 new, and I think the xpack and BG2 will fall into my lap anyway.

I always pay by cheque, and have never used PayPal. Especially since many people selling on eBray these days have started to charge a premium if you want to pay with PayPal. Yuck.

If you've got one of those fancy eBray tracker programmes then you can get stuff much cheaper than by just bidding straight off. But I don't bother with them - I think they're cheating.

If you pay by cheuqe how do eBay take their cut? Or is that the point?

If I sign up just so I can get sellers' email addresses is it quick and painless?
