* I've put up detailed MoW orders for this turn. Please follow them exactly (since much of E_T's carefully worked out timetable depends on these).

Diplomatic:

Added by Arnelos:

* Concerning CFC: We need to set up a meeting with CFC about finances and about their role. This will preferably take the form of a team-to-team summit. I have gone to the liberty of attaching a message to the previous save asking Donovan Zoi for times of availability so that we can schedule around him. We will probably need E_T present, since he best understands the minutiae of the finances. I will want to be present as well. As stated, the two items that will need to be on the agenda are finances for our attack and any role that CFC will play in the form of their own attack (or not). This needs to be done ASAP.

* Concerning CGN: It would probably be a good idea to discuss with them ways they can both keep GWT's forces tied down in their territory as long as possible (or at least until D-Day) and how they can take advantage of our attack to harm GWT and GCA in their lands (razing any GCA cities would be particularly fun, but cutting up and razing any and all GWT roads and fort cities might help). Also discuss with CGN about any way they might be able to use an assumed time free of GWT interference to lick their wounds and prepare stronger defenses to meet GWT on their next assault.

This is a re-post of what E_T made out as our plan for the various ships and where they would upgrade and load.

I'm planning to further look at this and make out a turn-by-turn plan of where to move when (so that it's easier to play turns without digging through several posts and reconstructing what to do.

Here ya go for now:

GROUP A (Lands on D-Day):

AIS Hunter - HoD (upgrade, load up in here or Cyrene... move to staging area)
AIS Vengeance - Incensity (upgrade, load up... move to staging area)
AIS Seeker - move into Cyrene, unload Vondrack, move to Cyrene-8. Next turn: load Togas and H Tower, then move to check out sealane.
Inc Galley (620 AD) - upgrades in Inc, loads up, moves to staging area
Hisp Caravel (650 AD) - Loads up outside Cyrene and moves to staging area
Lum Ban Caravel (670 AD) - loads up or in 700AD at point north of Hisp. Will be in Remembrance when we get NAv, which is in Group A (will join rest of Group A while at sea).
HoD Caravel #2 (680 AD) - load up then or in 700AD at point north of Hisp. Will be in Remembrance when we get Nav, which is in Group A (will join rest of Group A while at sea)

GROUP B (Lands on D+1):

Plan #2 Caravel in Mongoose Abyss (670 AD) - load up in 690AD at point north of Hisp. Will be in Remembrance when we get Nav, which is Group A <----------???????????
Prot Caravel (680 AD) - loads up at time of build and heads off (or loads up from Memoria Firaxia)
Inc Caravel #2 (710 AD) - loads up at time of build and heads off

PARTH GROUP:

HoD Caravel #1 (650 AD) - loads up and heads to Parth Staging Area
AIS Retribution - upgrade in 640 AD (at latest), loads up and heads for staging area in 650 AD (with the other ship)

So 7 caravel loads will land on D-day, and then 3 more caravel loads on D+1? A total of 30 units, 21 on D-day and 9 more the following turn?

E_T's post indicates 5 muskets + 1 settler, and the rest knights for the D-day landing. So 15 knights, then.

Second wave all knights, right? So a total of 24 knights.

I'm going to have another look at whatever maps I can find, but does anyone else think that subtracting 1-2 knights and replacing them with explorers might be to our advantage?

I guess it really depends on GWT's road net. If there is a decent chance a couple of explorers might be able to cut road access and thus further slow GWT's ability to reinforce the area, I think we may want to sacrifice a little firepower in exchange for that.

The map E_T posted of the known world in 600AD shows a bottleneck in GWT's road network 7 tiles from our LZ (to the southeast, by the desert). It may be that GWT has roaded more tiles since we last got an updated map, but it may be that the bottleneck still exists.

We have updated maps of GWT's territory every turn. It would be relatively easy to assess that if you have a screenshot of it or a save. Lemme see if I can get one up.

There is a 1-tile bottleneck on E_T's 600AD map, so theoretically all we would need is 1 explorer (of course, if they happen to have a unit on that tile on D+1, our scout cannot cut the road, but I think it's worth the chance).

Therefore, I humbly suggest that Group B carry 8 knights and 1 explorer, instead of 9 knights.

-Arrian

p.s. If we do, can said explorer be dubbed "Eyes of Grog" ? I say this jokingly - the name doesn't really matter, and if you guys hate that one it's cool. The strategy matters more to me.

Hmm, possible wrench in the works: does Group B leave Apolytonia prior to our discovery of Navigation? If so, we cannot put an explorer on it, since explorers require Nav. Blah, that would suck.

Any possibility of using the "big picture" button to change some city's build to Explorer so that it can be built that turn, then using a ship-chain to get the Explorer out to the fleet? (Yeah, I know, probably too much wasted resources, but it's a nice idea.)

That's an exploit, IMHO and we won't be using it. As a matter of fact, I'm going to ask that our Consulate get with Mongoose, on the eve of the Invasion, and make sure that he looks for that specific trick from GWT/GCA. If we are totally catching them with their pants down, they don't need to be using an exploit to get things back into place...

I agree, but ...

The PTWDG just voted the tactic as valid.
So I suspect there are various opinions on this team if we should (and GWT) be allowed to use it.

In case the last episode didn't convince you, I'll put it bluntly:

Mongoose is completely ineffectual in this game.

Apologies if Mongoose ever sees this, but it's true.

He's probably not even watching the game any more. I haven't seen him online in MSN Messenger for months. Anything he says won't stick. Rules have to be determined by a team vote in the UN or they won't have any force applied to them. Do you honestly think if GWT does something like that to save their empire and Mongoose says "no no no!" they'll listen or care with their FP and 2/5 of their production at stake?

Of course, if we raise ship chaining, all by its lonesome, at the UN, we might as well broadcast our invasion plan.

Have the teams dealt with the issue of getting into the city production screen via zooming to a city during the production phase or going to F1 from "big picture" ?

If we can raise several issues at once, it won't be a blatant tip-off to GWT that we're about to invade.

For one thing, this is NOT the PTWDG, so just because it's VALAD there (which I was against, btw) does NOT mean that it would be Valid here.

As for GWT/GCA doing it or not, they have NOT discussed it at ALL, so IMHO, it should NOT be allowed.

And Trip (or anyone else for that matter), don't go getting a wild hair up your a$$ and post at the UN about it.

I agree. IMHO using the F1 should not be allowed.

But my point is that the team may disagree with us.
And given the PTWDG has a common membership with the IDSG, I suspect a poll will show that most would allow it.

I'm actually neutral on both ship chaining and F1. I voted for F1 in the ptwdg, mostly because GS had been using it since the beginning and I felt we had established a "course of performance" and that it would be disingenous of us to vote against it. I think I abstained re: ship chaining, but when I really think about it, I guess I'm against it. But I'll go with the flow.

The key to me in all of these games is that everyone agrees on which rules they are playing by, and then goes with that. The problem we've encountered, both here and in the ptwdg, is that the rules were not fully established at the start of the game.

I suggest examining how ND voted on the issues in the ptwdg to give us a clue about how GWT *might* lean on these things. It is by no means a direct correlation, of course, but at least it would give us some idea.

Anyway, my question way back when was actually never answered: does Group B leave our shores prior to the discovery of navigation? If that is the case, no explorer for us.

Full PM-box? Change here!

We have 3 Group B ships, built in Inc, Mon Ab & Prot. The Prot Caravel will be loading off of Memoria on the same turn that we get Nav and then heading off. The Inc Caravel will be built on the same turn that we get Nav, loading and headed off. The Mon Ab Caravel, will lload up, on turn before Nav, from Mauritainia and move into Group B position.

All of the Group A ships will be off by that time. Also, it would take 2 turns to build 1 explorer (from a 10 SPT city) and we would need to have a ship stay behind, to carry them to the party.

Most of their membership is actually different between the PTWDG and the ISDG.

Darekill (and previously Zaxyus) held most sway within ND, and neither has much of anything to do with the ISDG. The guys in charge of the ISDG only speak up rarely in the ND forum.

Personally, I have mixed opinions about the F1. I think it should not be allowed except in those cases where the liabilities of PBEM play itself make it necessary... such as your source of luxuries dropping out on you for a turn because PBEM play won't let you renew it on schedule (and you forgot to change the cities the previous turn). Except for issues like that where the stupid coding of PBEM itself is largely at fault, I don't find using the F1 screen for this to be acceptable.

That's just my opinion, though.

I also agree that we shouldn't be using the F1 screen for these purposes. I also expect that all other teams (except Lucky of course) likely consider it an exploit also.

Ok, I've got MoW orders up. We're waiting on some remaining MoI orders from E_T and then MZ will be the one to play this save.

That's a good point about the luxury deal thing.

Like I said, I only voted for F1 in the ptwdg because GS had already been using it and I felt that we would be saying "we used this for 200 turns, but now we're saying none of you can use it." Which would be utter bullshit, IMO.

Starting from scratch, I agree with you: use it only to keep a lux deal working properly, otherwise no.
