This is a standard MP strategy and we should do it, because PAL will do it, and I WANT them to see us doing it.

Knowing we have sentinels may make them think twice if there war hawks get gready after the CDG demise.

PAL told CDG they were going for Philosphy?!?!

That completely screws us, as we haven't even started Philo yet and CDG is now asking about our Commerce and how soon we can get it finished and if they have two active brain cells amongst their team, they'll figure out we're up to something.

We need to talk to PAL immediately and find out who the idiot was that told that to CDG, and why.

I doubt they're actually going for Philosophy, but there's a slight, nagging suspicion in me that makes me want to talk to them immediately to clear this up.

Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if they were intentionally trying to drive a wedge between us and CDG. They'd want themselves to be our only option.

MRex sure is smarter than everything we'd predicted in the past, I'll give that to him. Judging by the chat, I wouldn't be suprised if he suspects something already. It could be, then, that MRex is playing as as fools - lying to us about what PAL may or may not have told them. Unlikely, I know, but still possible.

Togas is right, though, that we need to talk to PAL about this, even if just in a quick message. If it indeed was PAL that told CDG this little bit of information, it'd be a sign that this alliance isn't as strong and coordinated as it should be.

Con, take a look at our most recent chat with MRex. We need to talk to PAL about the Philosphy situation and work on how to ease CDG's concerns.

CDG did give us an opening about "letting PAL into the Republic deal." However, I'm reluctant to use such opening. I first want to straighten out this situation about PAL saying they're researching Philosphy first. Need to find out if PAL is undercutting us.

I'll go on the record and say that if PAL is researching Philsophy, we need to seriously reevaluate our alliance with them.

When we stalled on giving them Writing, one of the things they asked was if we were concerned they would go for Philosophy. We told them no, we trusted them not to, and ultimately gave them the tech *for free*.

When has it happened? When has an ambassador from Apolyton ever *lied* directly to another nation? And, after the "lie", the leader of the team confuse which tech they're actually working on, telling us they're working on a tech we know they already have?

I think the CDG-Philo situation is just a symptom of three larger problems.

One is our rather inactive FAM. Don't know what else to say - it just doesn't seem as robust as it should be. If we were in better contact with PAL, we may have at least found out about that blunder from them, and, consequently, could have been better prepared.

Second is a rather weak link between two teams that should have a strong one. There isn't much regular back and forth between ourselves and PAL, despite the presence of an alliance. We should make a better effort to be in more frequesnt communiation with PAL, and hopefully they would reciprocate.

Third is a weak PAL team on the whole. On the whole, this could be the biggest problem. PAL is not used to working in a team atmosphere. We, through the PTWDGs, SPDGs, etc, are. Their rogue ambassador is, I think, a visible crack in PAL as a team.

My apologizes for not being around the last week. A combination of last minute work trips vs kid obligations vs my wife still being whacked out by what happened to her dad really led to a lot of conflicting obligations last week..

If it makes you guys feel any better, my wife is currently pissed at me and I got into trouble at work, because there are of course only so many hours in the day.

I believe things will be back to normal now. If they dont pan out that way, rest assured, I will resign my position before I let this continually happen. But sometimes RL has to come first.

Sleep was an option last week

Short chat with F-P of PAL tonight: (See topped FA thread)

1. They are researching Map Making and are about 8 turns away.

2. That landmass to the east we debated over a month ago is indeed connected to this continent, so far there is no apparent "passage to the other continent".

3. The PAL ambassador got slapped because of the philo mixup/ misunderstanding with CDG.

4. We exchanged lists of whos who in power with both teams. I id that becuse I read some discussion that we should "talk with PAL more". So I guess if the consuls encourage it the different ministers should "chit chat" with there counterparts.
