Could someone tell me what has angered Plato so much? I mean it's a war, both sides do wrong stuff. You shouldn't overreact because you've seen more of one side.

The only thing I can see is that he was trolling when he said "turn the marines loose"... but then again do you put someone on ignore because he bites into your troll?

I, like many others, feel that the overreactions are favoring the enemy and being made by those on the side of the ally... that is why I am mad, terrorism is winning because of the "you can't do that" attitude that we are seeing, however the same people turn their backs on the enemy when they do something twice as grusome.

I think it's the point of the military, to form ruthless and brainwashed peons. I'm sure most of them would behead Iraqis if asked to, or do it on their own after seeing the video, if there was no one to prevent them.

No it's not. Militia training in third world countries include biting into living animals to get into the "stuff". There are so many examples like this. Training in the West doesn't go that far, but the atrocities of the battlefield can really "change" someone. What Americans did is not an isolated case, even within modern Western armies of the liberal democratic countries.

The idea is that in a war, the prime factor of moral stabilization - society - disappears. The guys in Iraq don't truly feel the moral oppresion of living in a normal world. That's why they shoot civilians and prisoners. That's also why a lot of otherwise normal men turn into rapists in the course of a war when given the opportunity.

About this thread, I have found Striker's remark about the lack of Arab outrage interesting. I have looked on several news source, and they don't detail the outrage at all, in any country including the US. I suppose the news is too young (especially in the ME where it's morning now) for an outrage to be measured.

I really wonder what the outrage will look like in the Arab world.

What level of outrage was there when they did the same thing to Daniel Pearl? You can probably use that to predict the outrage this time around.

Wake up. There's a reason international law wants to prevent wars. No one in human history has ever been able to behave their soldiers, not even those who wanted to (I'm not sure this includes current day America).
