Assuming there are no GWT galleys in our sight to worry about, we can move a ship forward to see if the LZ is clear as soon as we get the save. (Currently it needs to pass through GWT and then CGN.) I suggest we use a ship full of knights, giving the ships with the muskets and settler maximum flexibility in case the LZ is blocked.

They know we're there. They'll have forted galleys on watch and all coast tiles they can reach block.

I see two options:

1) Go home
2) Go out to sea and down south and join CFC in trashing GCA's land.

I see 3rd and 4th options

Go towards Flamburg and there will be ~25 different LZ's they would have to cover. Which, they can do, but then it ties up those units freeing CFC to do some more damage.

Go North to draw GWT units further North away from CFC.

If our caravel moves one tile East, we'll see the 2 other coast tiles around their horsemen. Then the caravel could be fortified. If the tiles are occupied, we can move two other caravels, the one towards Nord, the second towards south.

Probably, we have an advantage : we know how many caravels we have, they not.

Eh, the Flamburg option doesn't seem that enticing to me. We have to come up that narrow channel, and they could throw galleys at us, as well as cover all the possible landing spots with Ansar, long before we get there. :-/

We could look for other open LZs if the team wants.

However, we can't reach any other tiles this turn, and they'll definitely have them covered the next with our caravels in plain sight of their borders.

I Think Astrologix's option is not so bad. We can also go sailing around and see if we can get something else. Remember that splitting up forces at sea will force them, now that they know we're there to spread their forces too.

If we manage to attack at multiple beaches now, we can do a real D-Day strategy (I hope MZ doesn't correct me on this one) : we disembark on many different landing zones and try, while fighting to break through their defences (not nessecarily by attacking cities) to the central town, Rurhpott (or Caen in WW II, right MZ?)

No. We then split our landing force which will be subjected to the whim of dozens of Ansar. We cannot afford to split our landing into multiple zones, especially now that the element of surprise is gone.

We can't land anywhere this turn, and by next turn, they'll have a bleepload of Ansar up there, if they don't already. I'm confident they'll have the coast covered.

Also, landing piecemeal allows them to concentrate on a single knight stack at a time, taking out as many units as they can with their Ansar and only having to fight through a few muskets to get at the less strong - if they have to fight through any muskets at all.

We need to decide whether to move the caravel in further. Please voice your opinions.

If we do that, we'll put it square in the sight of GWT galleys. However, IMO that won't be a problem so long as we move a few more caravels to stack with it; they won't want to attack a caravel stack unless they have a lot more galleys than we have caravels, and I doubt they have more than 3 or at most 4 in the area.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

I believe we're operating under the assumption they saw a stack of 9 caravels. The current scout we sent in originated from that stack. So if they saw it, they know a massive invasion was being planned.

Look at the positions of their gallies.
Look at the scattered position of our caravels.

They couldn't have possibly seen our "stack of 9 caravels". If they saw a few of our ships, consider the start and end position of their 3 move gallies ... do we see any that are in an end position that would have sighted our ships?

No.

Consider this possibility: The top galley is a picket that moves in and out each turn. The southern galley is on his way south to deal with CGN's annoying galley terrorists. The horseman is going to load/unload in a galley, or possibly be there to deal with any suspicious CGN landings.

Can we stop coming to the worst possible conclusions and then acting on them before we know the facts? Please, people! Why the hell are we so risk-averse? Why does everyone seem to jump to the worst conclusion or fear risking a conflict without guranteed 100% victory?

This is war. You cannot fight scared. You cannot win by running away from every possible defeat.

At this point in time, we DO NOT KNOW if they know what we're doing, and assuming that they know exactly what we're doing is absoulte idiocy. GWT are not superhuman. They are not civgods. They cannot read our minds nor can they see how many ships we have or where all of our ships are. They are operating in the dark, dealing with rogue CGN units, trying to protect GCA and trying to continue to manage and protect a VERY large empire.

Move in closer. If our landing zone is blocked we must change tactics. If it isn't, let's land now and overwhelm them with 30 knights, quickly overpower them and get out before they can counter.

If their galley was forted at 4 of the LZ as of last turn, the saw our stack of caravels and could have easily moved their galley back.

A galley forted at 4-7 of Elf would have been awoken since we moved units through it's field of view.

A galley forted at 1-1 of Elf would have spotted out units 2 full turns ago.

There were simply quite a number of areas they could have easily seen us.

but we do not see their gallies in any of those spots, nor do we have any direct evidence that they were there, just continued pessimistic speculation.

JUST MOVE IN AND FIND OUT FOR SURE.

Enough of "assuming the worst." Find out. If we see a blocked coastline, then we KNOW, and can plan accordingly. If we don't see it blocked, let's move in before they have time to summon Ansars to fend us off.

Put an end to popups!

If we move futher in, we won;t be able to Fortify, as we will have used up our 3 moves for this turn.

Now, I was thinking, at some people in chat like this, was to have the main force, Move back and head south. At the same time, we have one Caravel, move northeast, along their Coast, close enough to watch the land, so as to pin down some of their Units and keep them from moving south (as far as they will know, we will have our units still within range to strike, if we find an opening).

This would require us to be within their Cultural Borders. As we know how GWT respects our own Cultural boarders we will likely hear of massive protests from GWT. We just tell them to s*ck it up OR make us move.
