Clark got on TV yesterday and said the move was wrong and would weaken the US. Pressed for details on why this was, Clark simply restated the conclusion.

Perhaps someone who what Kerry's position is could explain it to us.

We have to defend what we attack successfully. I thought you were talking about for Iraq. I didn't read the whole thread.

well thinking back. when have we ever defended?

Vietnam is perhaps one example, but we lost. which proves defense sucks, offense wins wars.

Korea was largely defensive (after McArthur left).

gulf war and iraq war were offenisve. Kosovo offensive. Afghanistan offensive. WW2 offensive. WW1 offensive. Spanish American war- offensive of course. Mexian war offensive. you get the picture.

We are a nation of warmongerers, hence why we love our guns.

Yeah, Clark was one of the original Kerry brand of Iraq critics who said "we do not have enough troops." Originally, that was with respect to the invasion. When events proved Clark and his ilk to be be completely wrong, they switched to "Bush did not have enough troops to win the peace." Now events are proving them wrong again, so Clark and Kerry are switching to "we need more troops in Germany and a larger army."

How many times does he and those like him have to be proven wrong before people stop listening to them.

True, and neither should we. Besides, little did you achieve. The murdering, raping and ethnic cleansing continues, only the other way around. And your (and sadly our too) soldiers stand and do nothing.

Out of the last five years its Kosovo (admittedly not started, but illegally meddled into a civil war), Afghanistan (an attack by terrorists=criminals does not justify the invasion of a souvereign country, even though it's a fundamentalist one with no friends) and Iraq. For the latter you will probably bring the old excuse, that it was the continuation of GW1, since no peace treaty had been signed. A lot of people see this different.

Prior to that, a lot has happened, from the Dominican Republic, over Libya, Lebanon, Grenada and Panama, to name only a few. Not all of them qualify as full fledged wars and I am sure you may think that some of them are justified. This is, again, in the eye of the beholder.

So how was Kosovo justified? Who allowed the NATO (= effectively the US) to intervene? I don't try justify Milosevic, but there is a lot of civil wars going on in the world, with lots of victims and refugees. This doesn't make these countries free for invasions. And what was going on in Yugoslavia was far far away from being genocide, which would justify an intervention.

This is a matter of definition. To meddle into a civil war from outside, thus making it an interstate war, could as well been seen as having started the war in the word's classical sense. A civil war is an internal affair and justifies external intervention only in rare exceptions.
