Ahh, apparently at least some of the escaped rebels escaped by force, opening random fire at civilians and soldiers. So they actually broke out of the perimeter by force - how could that happen? There were, as it turns out, even battle copters above the area.

I dont know if it was already mentioned, but about 15 minutes ago some Russian TV channel said that they identified the bodies of 9 of the attackers and that they were Arabs.

Colon, I still would not announce a condemnation at this point. Those terrorists have an ability to exact revenge on Putin through those children, while Bush is not touchable. I would do exactly what Putin is doing. I would do nothing that might endanger the lives of the surviving child hostages. When it's over, I'd condemn it and go to war when I found out who is behind this, until there was no chance of such a thing ever happening again, and children can once again be safe in their own schools.

I dont think the Russians will do anything major. They'll push more on the Chechens, maybe do more assasinations like they recently did in one of the Gulf states(dont remember which one), but as you said, they dont really have any options for major "War on Terror" action.

Many students are policemen or soldiers but they generally come to the university without weapons or with small pistols only. Several come to university with M16 but they are scattered...

Also, there's talk that there are more terrorists in Moscow ready for action is the shortest term. It might be possible... in a week, there were three notable terror acts in Russia.

Terrorists still have some hostages. Three terrorists are blocked in the school basement now, their leader there too, apparently.
