See above.

BTW, I watched half an hour of highlights of the 95 World Cup tonight. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Jonah steamrolling Tony Underwood and the others. And I didn't know until tonight that Underwood had winked at Jonah during the haka. How he paid for it a bit later.

Pity I happened to be out of the room when that pr*ck wearing white kicked a drop goal against us.

Strange isn’t it – Geecs is a three times Lions coach and won series in Australia and South African – and only got an empire medal for it. He has always honoured his contracts – and avoided publically criticising his employers and opponents. His is by far I would say the more worthy Knight.

Naa mate – we will be beating your mob again within 12 months – we have crops of young brilliant forwards coming through the club game and you, um, don’t.

Give them their due – the first up hits in defence can be huge in the girlie code.

That’s because they know after six phases the ref will take their ball away (and we all fall asleep).

Mr Andrews shining moment. How it wrenched my heart to see Aussie players distraught.

I still have nightmares about Lomu-Underwood. If Lomu had ever matched his form against us in other fixtures he would be remembered as an all time great – but he never quite made that status.

Best of all, he's probably not psychotic.

Yes, and huge hits because they don't have to compete for the ball at the tackle. Stupid, pointless game.

As I said, I was conveniently out of the room when that replay happened. I also happen to have no recollection of even having watched it at the time.

He had blinders against everyone except, perhaps, the Boks. I don't think he played them too often, apart from that World Cup. He carved us up most times he played against us when he was healthy. I think his illness stopped him achieving the status. His last couple of seasons, which were below par for him, were obviously marred by it. 6' 5", 18 stone, and could run the 100 in close to even time. Terrifying!

Union Sportive des Arlequins de Perpignan 23 - Edinburgh 0

Half-time score : 3-0

The Catalans stuttered their Rugby all along the first half against limited but valliant Scottish players largely dominated in every sector of the game. The first half was thus an accumulation of knock-ons, fumbles and other fools.

The second half saw the Perpignanais in a different shape, though the game was marred with too many fools, they were more enterprising and scored a first and beautiful try thanks to Manuel Edmonds who delivered a fine kick he recovered himself in the scottish try zone. The rest of the game is purely anecdoctic, the question was not about a victory or not of the USAP but about the margin of the said victory.

The main teaching of the game is that the Catalans have not solved their main problem which is discipline, I am sure it will cost them some victories especially in the H-Cup.

Well, they spent all that money, it's time they produced some results.

BTW, how is your Gallois doing?

EDIT. I just discovered this scoreline: Toulouse 9 -d- Scarlets 6.

1. Who or what are the Scarlets? Or who or what were they before they changed their name to something so meaningless!

2. Reading the report, it seems Toulouse were lucky to win.

Very well, thank you!

Gareth Thomas is a very talented player whether he plays at the wing, at the center or as a full back. He is able to adapt himself very easily and has a great offensive skill.

Llanelli (say clanecli)...

It seems to be a new trend in the NH, one of those stupid things, like opera singers for the national hymns, coming from the SH.

As far as I know, having heard Jean-Baptiste Ellissalde at the radio, the weather was awful, with a very strong wind and the French forwards dominated their opponents. Needless to say that the Stade Toulousain certainly had to fight against a 16th player... a brittish referee.

The game is scheduled at 1:30 pm on cable TV, I shall see it and should have a better idea about the whole affair.

What worries me is that a Haematoma in the arm should not be preventing a 25 year old playing. Something else is going on methinks.

That's indeed no reason not to play. I started playing yesterday evening with 2 haematoms, one in the arm and one in the thigh, plus a few stud marks on the forehead form Tuesday training session. So there must be somehting else.
(By the way, we won, 3 tries to one).
I am getting better at throwing the ball in a lineout, particularly when there's a good second jumper. First jumper still causes me problems, but we did score a try 'en force' after a short lineout. My coach expects me to spend 10 minutes throwing the ball at the bars at the start of each training session when the other players are actually having fun before the coach comes and tells us to do silly things. I'll be on vacation for 1 week and a half, so when I next see him in 3 weeks, there's a possibility that he will have forgotten about it...

Nothing to do with us! They obviously changed their name because their original name was unpronounceable!

Delete Toulouse, insert Leicester, and it could be a Havak match report.

This report is a bit exaggerated, the Toulousains' forwards dominated their opponents but it is true the Welsh missed two easy penalties. It can thus be called, somehow, a lucky win though the Stade Toulousain played rather well.

She's developped some kind of 'oh well that again' reaction and got used to it. My small bruises are much more useful to stop my daughter's whining because her fingerhurts her and "look here I've got a bruise". She then shows me something which can hardly be called a scratch and says it hurts. I then show her my thigh with a nice purple and yellow circle 5cm wide with a nice stud mark scar in the middle and I can tell her to stop whining because I don't. She then stops whining at me, sulks, and goes see her mother instead.

God bless Tamerlin. I need a good belly laugh on a Monday morning.

The lad is a passable (not much more) fullback and wing – but centre? Are you on the happy juice again?

Llanelli (say clanecli)...

Sorry to be picky but the closest a non-Welsh speaker can get is Clan-ethli. Although it’s not quite a ‘C’ sound to start – it ‘rolls’ more than that.

Llanelli Scarlets are the Welsh province that kept the name of the main club that formed it. Scarlets was their nickname for years – as they became a Province it became official. They have been the strongest Welsh challengers in the European cup for years – but always suffering heartbreak (including a semi-final defeat to Tigers in 2002). They are now waning – their fly half nicked off to France in the summer and their skipper Scott Quinell is years past his best.

On the face of it Toulouse did really well – Scarlets are traditionally very hard to beat at Rodney Parade. However this season Toulouse are the fourth side to beat them there.

Their coach by the way is on the Lions coaching roster – and is the worst (least gracious) loser I have ever encountered in the UK in the Professional era.

quote:
Needless to say that the Stade Toulousain certainly had to fight against a 16th player... a brittish referee.

Sorry but if we can cope with a useless Scot lump you can cope with Chris White.

Having said that the reports I heard from those who watched said Toulouse were awful…sorry.

quote:

If he is typical of amateur coaches here he probably forgot about it right after saying it.

Good to see you won – and that small bumps and bruises don’t stop you. Easy to spot you are a forward.

quote:
Delete Toulouse, insert Leicester, and it could be a Havak match report.

Pretty much.

Rained throughout. Total mismatch. Despite a strangely large number of North Aucklanders and actual Aucklanders on their team sheet. Tigers followed a bizarre game plan that kept them chip and box kicking (in my day when it was raining heavily you stuck the pill up the packs shirts). We never really got out of first gear so it was no real preparation for Biarritz Olympique (who were beaten by Day-Glo’s mob). Still five tries means a bonus point win for us.

The best news is probably that Ellis and Moody each got a brace of tries. Add that to Cohen scoring a match winning try for Saints in their game and maybe there is a glimmer of hope for England…

As far as I am concerned, and though I appreciate the lesson, I will stick to Clanecli as the objective of language is to be understood. And I doubt I would be understood anywhere in France if I say Clan-ethli.

Of course, if you listen to Finbar...

About the Biarritz Olympique, I can only say that this is one of the worst games I have ever seen. Bad Wasps beating a worst Basque team unable to handle the ball. A very poor game with uninspired and clumsy French players accumulating stupid fools. This is one those games you have to forget very quickly, the only winners are those that have taken a nap while their TV was on.

13 Nov 2004 Italy vs All Blacks

20 Nov 2004 Wales vs All Blacks (Cardiff)

27 Nov 2004 France vs All Blacks (Paris)

4 Dec 2004 Barbarians vs All Blacks

Only 17 more sleeps to go. Give or take a sleep, subject to time zones.

Tucked up in his comfy, warm cot in the East Midlands, Havak's nose twitches in his sleep as his subconscious senses an opportunity to mention, yet again, the All Blacks' habit of avoiding playing England.

Relaxing in his four-storey NY brownstone with a glass of port after a fine dinner, Caligastia dreams of Havak resurrecting the old All Blacks-avoiding-England chestnut, ready to remind Havak of England's last glorious expedition to the Shaky Isles.

For a moment there I thought you were back to Toulouse and had gone back on your earlier assessment of a certain Welshman.

Full PM-box? Change here!

I notice (catching up on the last week or so) that young Jonny did himself another injury and will be out for another few weeks.
Poor guy, and Englands loss, but I have to say I'm glad he'll be out for the RSA game. Even though they've made an effort to clean their play up I always thought his fronting up against them again so soon after coming back would have been a bad idea.
Much better for England to ('potentially' as a courtesy to Havak ) take its lumps and not unwisely expose their playmaker.

Incidentally who is this Larder chap? New Engalnd semi-coach or somesuch.

"The All Blacks epitomise to me the pinnacle of international rugby, they are an outstanding nation, they are brilliant players,"

Sounds rather intelligent and well-prioritized for an Englishman ...

He even references Graham Henry as an outstanding coach which will no doubt attract an opinion or two?

Read the article closely. He went on three Rugby L***** Lions tours. 'Nuff said.

She's of Italian heritage? That's fine by me. Where in Italy is the family from? We're off over there for a couple of years sometime in the first half of next year.
