OK. I will try.
How would you feel if your soldiers went off to fight and die for an ally that then disregaurded trade agreements to gain an advantage?
Translation: do you have a clue why the world complains about the US? |
1. Neither candidate is going to be that different from the other on this.
2. There are other much, much larger issues.
3. Overall U.S.-Canadian relations are not that bad (beyond their dislike of Bush, of course).
4. I would be annoyed about the trade issues, but there is more thna just a couple trade issues between the U.S. and Canada; most of the relationship is positive.
5. I know why the world complains about the U.S., and if you read my posts when such things come up you'd see that.

5b. Bush is largely a charicature of the main reasons why the rest of the world has problems with the U.S. He's pushy, arrogant, thinks America is far better than any other country, and is quite disrespectful to our allies.

Well, there's the whole Bush fiasco that has damaged the relationship. Before Bush was elected things were quite good, that's my understanding.
My apologies on not emphasizing that enough (Bush encompasses more than just Iraq, but Iraq is probably the first thing that comes to mind).

I'd think the Iraq issue or your soldiers might be more important to you, Notyoueither.
In any case, I have seen no good evidence that Kerry would implement trade policies that are bad for Canada. You certainly haven't presented anything.

You would be wrong, from your partisan POV.
Bush hasn't been the problem, from where I live. |
Oh, so people like how Bush acts in the world? Their perception of America hasn't been changed by Iraq, our withdrawing from the ICC or Kyoto treaties, and generally the belligerance that Bush has had towards others?
Interesting. Overall, in the world and Canada, that isn't the case. According to polls anyhow.

Again. Explain 'fair' trade. |
How many times do I have to explain it?
It is about environmental and worker protections.
If you read the links I put out, you'd see that Kerry thinks Chile meets these requirements. I am sure that Canada is better than Chile on this.

And Bush isn't going to change that, now is he? If you think he is provide proof.
So what can Kerry do to make that issue worse?
You said your concern was the "fair trade" stance of Kerry, but that doesn't apply here.
So again, why do you think Kerry is going to be worse here than Bush?

2. I think Kyoto is deeply flawed.
3. Most people where I live agree with me.
You really should not greet opinion on Poly as universal. That is a very big mistake. |
1. Most people think dislike of a leader doesn't justify a war (otherwise Castro and many, many others would be gone). Saddam was not a threat and America rushed to war. Many in America and especially the rest of the world have a problem of this. The majority in Canada do.
2. Most people around the world think that if there is a problem with a treaty, then you don't summarily denounce it and leave negatiations that have been going on for a long time. Instead you work with the other nations of the world to fix the problems.
3. Most people in Canada agree with the above.
Oh, and if anything Kerry's more genuine and fervent desire to win international aid in Iraq would encourage him to do work on the issues you worry about. Bush doesn't believe in working out such diplomatic relations.

*sigh* whatever.
Anyhow, this isn't an issue that is going to sway the election, so I am just going to let it die here. If you want to discuss it more, make a new thread on it.
