Sneering at Republicans doesn't help, a "tough love" approach is better - you know, the kind of thing you do when you're dealing with an irrational adolescent.

When my Republican relatives express outrage about environmental pollution or complain that they can't order drugs from Canadian pharmacies any longer, I ask them "did you vote for Republicans?" They respond "yes, of course". And so I say "well you're getting what you voted for, stop whining".

I've already heard one relative say "well, I'm not voting for Republicans any more!"

I probably should have said "a conservative, and a Republican." Which nowadays makes him a moderate.

Absolutely right. I think we should target some specific areas and just acknowledge losses in others so we can form a majority.

So would I, if I had had the chance.

But it is a failure of the American system that such a candidate could not get elected.

McCain should have campaigned for the Dem nomination. He would have won hands down and could have kept his moderate stance without pandering to the wings of either party.

You don't understand commies then, do you? Communism is the future, right now it's time to stop things getting worse.

Out of all the candidates in recent years, McCain has been the least polarizing. While he wouldn't have been particularly leftist, he is by no means a fundie loon like Bush or a prat like Gore.
