Chapter 4 – Investigation halted
DrSpike performed the autopsy of late Lt. Hellerman. He discovered something curious. Lt. Hellerman was struck from behind with a pipe on the left side of his head. That indicated the killer was left-handed. DrSpike called his best friend Diving Officer Dauphin to help him unravel this case.
“I’ve searched through the personal files of everybody aboard USS Alabama and I have discovered something disturbing. Our killer is left-handed. And there are only three left-handed people aboard this submarine”, DrSpike said to Dauphin.
“Who?”
“Lt. Bobby Dougherty, Chief Hunsicker and our Chief Investigator Lt. Billy Linkletter.”
“Damn! We can’t trust his investigation!”
“You bet we can’t. That’s why I asked for your help. I’ll invite Captain Ramsey and Lt. Linkletter over here while you search his quarters.”
“Agreed Doc.”
DrSpike then invited Captain Ramsey and Lt. Linkletter over to his lab. He informed them about the left-handed killer.
“Then it’s got to be Chief Hunsicker. He’s the only left-handed on my suspects’ list. Thanks for your help Doc”, Lt. Linkletter said.
“You are left-handed also, Lieutenant”, Doc replied.
“Yes, but it doesn’t… Don’t be ridiculous. Are you accusing me? Accusing me of being the murderer?”
“Just asking whether you are left-handed or right-handed, that’s all.”
“He is left-handed”, Captain Ramsey interrupted.
“Good”, replied DrSpike. “Now tell me Lt. Linkletter where you were on the nights of both killings.”
“I was alone in my quarters”, Lt. Billy Linkletter replied quickly.
“So, you have no alibi then. I was under the impression that only 4 submariners had no alibis.”
“I also have no alibi”, replied Lt. Linkletter, “but I didn’t think such info would be required for the progress of the investigation.”
At that moment came Dauphin in.
“Captain, you wouldn’t believe what I found in Lt. Linkletter’s cabin. A bloody pipe!”
“The murder weapon”, DrSpike asked.
“Likely”, Dauphin replied.
Captain Ramsey then asked Lt. Linkletter.
“What do you say to this Billy?”
“I was framed Sir!”
“Billy, you are going to taste what torpedoes feel.”
“No!!! Please Frank spare me, for old times’ sake.”
“No can do Billy, no can do. You are going out for this. And to think I trusted you unreservedly.”
Tuberski was pushed down one of his torpedo tubes and shot out of the submarine.

Chief Hunsicker and Officer Dauphin were talking in the corridor about the investigation.
Dauphin started.
“I’m telling you, DrSpike analysed the blood found at the murder scene of the second murder and he found two blood types. One of them is the victim’s, while the other is most likely the murderer’s. And the killer has one ****ing rare blood type. AB negative. He’s as good as dead.”
“Yes, blood types of all crew members are listed in their personal files. Who is going to check them?”
“DrSpike is going through the personal files again right now.”
But a sinister person was listening in to this conversation.

DrSpike was going through the personal files when someone came in. DrSpike looked up and uttered: “You!?”
It was the last thing he said as the person who entered the room stabbed him with his scalpel, then slashed him savagely and finally set fire to all personal files.
When the fire was put down, it was discovered that DrSpike was dead and that all his findings were lost in flames.
Captain Ramsey just said.
“It’s such a shame. He nearly rapped up this case for us. The killer must have known that. Now we need to appoint another investigator and start all over again.”

I think Lt Dougherty (Spaced) or Chief Hunsicker
(DarkCloud) is one of them. (maybe both).
That 'sinister' (as in sinister- dexter) reference is a clue isn't it ? Or is it a red herring?
I'll go ask DarkCloud about the right way to vote.
