I DID NOT SEND THE FOLLOWING. THIS IS A DRAFT ONLY
----------------
Lord Nosferatu,
It seems that Babylon has been led down the path of destruction with this Three Nation Alliance. Babylon could continue to ride on the coat-tails of the Mighty Horde. Babylon with it's science and culture. BOH with it's army. We could be unstoppable! So says the Horde. But that is not the way of Babylon. We seek peace with all nations.
The other day you spoke of peace again between the Lost Boys, Babylon, and Desolation Row. Do you have contacts there that you could point our way? Would you be the bridge for us into the Desolate Lands? Babylon weeps for the lost opportunity to build a relationship with a scientific nation such as the Desolators.
In our last contact I told you that Babylon was done attacking Desolation Row - that we fulfilled our obligation to those we called friends. Euphorica will see a sharp decline and will probably be wiped from the map by the deceitful Blood Oath Horde. I assure you that the Horde is still at war with the Desolators.
Beta made an offer to sell or trade Fuedalism. You are interested in DR's Republic. Maybe we can work something out. DR with Fuedalism and Pikemen could even that playing field with the Blood Oath Horde. Babylon does not look for war with the Horde, but hope that if the Horde saw a stronger army they might be convinced to stop with the Bards. But, we fear not.
Babylon wants peace among all nations. Oh how we lament the day that we signed on with the Blood Oath Horde - what honor? what music? what love?. We look for your response.

What do you think? These are delicate times. We need to make sure we have a clear objective - peace.
Let me know.
Better yet.
Discuss it. Edit it. Send it. I have plans tonight. Might not make it back to the PC until tomorrow morning.

An email for 1889...

Goddess Innana,
It seams that BOH is planning to give every nation its taste of war. You are slightly closer so I assume your number will come up before mine.
If a mutual defense should ever become necessary a good sense of your terrain would be very valuable since BOH is unlikely to have that information. Would you allow one of my warriors to scout inside your borders? You may do the same in my lands with a single slow unit.
These scouts should avoid roaded tiles and tiles adjacent to any city. They are also subject to the directives of the nation they are guests in.

my reply...

Lord Nosferatu,
It has been a tough few days. First an ally, who committed us to war, calls and unexpected cease fire. Then without notice attacks a fellow alliance member. In the past few minutes we discovered that BOH has signed, at the very least, a peace deal with the very nation they sent us to war against.
Your proposal sounds reasonable. In times less strange this would be an easy answer of yes. Let me verify this with my people.
Give us a few hours to sort this out. (People need to get get back from work and log in, read the posts.) Please answer the following:
Where do you stand with Desolation Row? You know that we seek peace with them, and that we were tricked into this war.
What are your feelings on this turn of events?
Babylon seeks peace with all nations.

No ROP. No Scouts. We agree to a mutual protection pact. If the time comes. We can send screen shots and open up the borders.

From Lost Boys,
quote:
Minister Skrobism,
If you seek peace with the Desolators then ask for it. The only
obstacle I
can see is your stubborn refusal to admit your own guilt. You may have
been
duped into sending your troops there, but the fact that the war was a
purely
aggressive act on the part of your ally was clearly documented in the
Peace
Negotiation Thread before you attacked. I do not believe you were
tricked
and I seriously doubt you would be able to convince anyone else that
you
were.
While I was very disappointed in your decision and subsequent
enthusiasm for
the TNA cabal, I am eager for signs that Babylon has returned the
principles
of friendship and openness that characterized its past foreign policy.
I do have peace and good relations with the Desolators, but no
outstanding
treaties or agreements at the moment.
As for my feelings on the BOH/Euphorcan war, well it couldn't happen to
a
more deserving nation. This current conflict my finally pacify
Euphorica,
but how much more dangerous will BOH be when its over?

Tell them that we were tricked by the reputations of players of BoH, which they had played out on us. Same was very true for Euph, more so, because they wouldn't have gone the path that they did without the support of BoH.
BoH has been manipulating the circomstances to lead to this point.
Tell them that, as part of the alliance, that us and Euph got BoH to halt it;s War with AM.
Tell them, that we suspect that if BoH isn't halted and soon, that the game will essentially be over, once they get their UU.
Tell them, that for a long time, just their Capitol (we have long suspected) has had the production capacity to produce 2 turn Horsemen. Along with their 5 turn Ancient Cav, their War production is frightening.
Granted, their Upgrade cost will be expensive, but they only need just 1 UU to trigger their GA and they can use that to generate the remainding cash to upgrade the rest. Once that happens, the game is finished, for they will take us down one at a time.
Tell them that we need to form a united front against them. Or none of us will see the end of this age of man.

Agreed, the one thing that we cannot do without right now is finesse. Play the angle that you suggested E_T, its the truth after all, and just about the only thing, in my opinion that we can do.

Lord Nosferatu,
To answer your point about Babylon not being tricked
into this war against the Desolators. I will concede
that we knew that we were going to war. I don't
believe I ever stated otherwise. What we were tricked
into was the war plan: The Bards first, then us, then
BOH for the kill. The reputations of these players
did not lead us to believe that they'd leave us high
and dry as they did. We did argue that we had few
troops to spare. We brought 4 to the party, and made
public comments to show support for our 'friends'.
This was to buy our way into a long term relationship
that was to support our scientific research. This is
where were tricked.
The whole Alliance was a sham. Recent documents
brought to light show that BOH and The Bards were to
cut Babylon lose after the Desolators were removed.
Now they are fighting eachother and we are left at war
with Desolation Row.
You look at this war as a war of aggression. That
might be. But please consider that Babylon and
Euphorica were responsible for calling off the Horde
dogs of war from the Morporkians.
It is good that you have peace with Desolation Row.
Our leaders will reach out to them as well. We look
forward to putting this ugliness behind all of us. We
hope that they give us the time to prove our
friendship.
Babylon is eager to form lasting friendships with our
neighbors. We look to stay out of the fighting
between BOH and Euphorica. However you should know
that BOH is not to be trusted. We were so angered by
the cease fire anouncement because just a few hours
before BOH was pushing for attack, and wondering when
we'd send more troops. If Euphorica is wiped out by
BOH, they will only be encouraged to continue. At
this point Babylon and the Lost Boys are the only two
nations left that BOH has not attacked. If you read
their public posts it is obvious they will not stop
with Euphorica, whose only crime against the Horde was
to build a granery.
The Horde capital has had the production capacity to
produce 2 turn Horsemen. Along with their 5 turn
Ancient Cav, their War production is frightening.
They only need 1 UU to trigger their GA and they can
use that to generate the remaining cash to upgrade the
rest. Once that happens, the game is finished, for
they will take us down one at a time. We are eager to
form a mutual protection pact with you. We are not
yet ready to open our borders. Please do not take
offense. These are dangerous times. Maps and screen
shots can be exchanged almost instantly if war comes
to either one of us.

LB contacted us...
quote:
Goddess Inanna,
I hope you will remain courageous in the face of Khan Paddy's threats. Why should you still treat with a nation that threatens war any time you do not do exactly as they command. Remember my first post in the Peace Negotiation Thread.
"Ankh-Morpork and Transylvania want to make the warring nations of the world aware that the choice is not between the deadly scimitars of Desolation Row’s Immortals or the trampling hooves of the Three Nation’s Coalition, there is a path of friendly coexistence. We have chosen a path of peace and friendly relations with all other nations and have made a pact to defend our neutrality."
You do not need to put up with Horde disrespect in the vain hope that you can count on their aid. Choose neutrality, choose not to have enemies and earn the respect that you deserve.

Our response...
quote:
Lord Nosferatu,
Babylon appreciates your concern and encouragement. We treat with the Horde because we too wish for peace among all nations. I am pleased to share with you that by doing so they have already backed down from some of their threats, and have offered compensation for pushing us into this war.
These are confidential discussions but I trust you. From Paddy of the Horde,
"Have you come to an answer on how the Horde can help with compensation for your lost units? This is a matter that troubles me and I feel these losses persoanlly. Afterall I feel you would not have sent them without my pushing the matter so hard..."
So, you see that they have something that we want as well. The most important thing would be to come out of this mess with peace on all sides.
I believe that we (Transylvania & Babylon) are getting on well. Babylon's trust in the good men of the world is growing again. Please give us time, I will see what can be done about opening our borders to you.
As you might know we are getting along well with your friends the Morporkians. Have all but signed off on a trade and border agreement.
We are keeping communications open with Euphorica.
Desolation Row has responded to our plea for peace, by saying that it is being discussed. We understand their anger but hope to begin again with them.
We treat with all nations at this time and look to build relationships in this small world.
Your ally in peace,

a quickreply to clarify. I don't want to lose 1889 to a misunderstanding.
quote:
Lord Nosferatu,
Let me clarify. Babylon is no longer interested in being an ally of the Blood Oath Horde. I am pretty sure they are aware of this. The blood they make their oathes with is thinner than water. We seek peace which is to say not to be in a state of war. We have called their bluff. Best case, they compensate us for our losses in a war that they pulled us into. Probable scenerio, they agree not to attack us, too - peace. Worst case, they run us over with their war machine.
Babylon walks a thin rope here. We desire not to be pulled into another war that we cannot win. Trust me, Babylon and I regret our dealings with the Horde. We are just trying to get away from this monster without it biting our head off.
Peace be with you,
-Skrobism
