Tired of ads?

Civ2 was and is a great game, but time has done too much damage to it unfortunately.

That's true enough. Poor, poor obsolete graphics. Albeit I think it was the most addictive game I ever played. Not like silly Civ3 that was like somebody's failed chemistry experiment!

I wish there was a hybrid between Civ2 and Alpha Centauri. That would have rocked! Two best games ever.

Considering the amount of time between both games, to say
CIV3 was superior to CIV2 in various aspects is a bit moot.

But CIV2 still have far better support for mods and a far slicker control method...

So there.

Put an end to popups!

C3's editor was more powerful.

What do you mean, control method?

1)
CIV3 lacked decent scenario tools.

2)
And CIV2 is better modded without the buggy editor you got with the game.

3)
'Control method' means what it sounds like.

Civ3 had more options, but was much less user friendly.

Civ2 was very easy to mod, and excellent results were possible with a minimum of effort.

Civ3, well, let's just say some people who bought the game when it first came out are still working on their scenarios for it. As for myself, I decided it'd just be easier to wait for Civ4 -- because it'd be out before I finished if I had tried to start back then...

C3 lacked events. In every other area of moddability it completely owned C2.

You couldn't do that much more with Notepad than with the editor included in FW...

I'm not saying it's complex, I'm saying it's not user friendly. It takes WAY too much time for one thing.

There's just too much red tape for it to be as effective as it could have been.

Goodness, you folks just want to ride me into the ground!

Example: Say I want to change the leaderheads for a faction to those of a different faction. I can't choose from a menu. I have to look it up, then type it in myself. It's things like that that bother me.

Anyway, this thread is about civs. I didn't start it so I could argue about the editor.

But you can't change the leaderheads in C2, IIRC - or if you can, you have to follow the same procedure.

Civ4:
Americans
Arabs
Aztecs
Babylonians
Chinese
Egyptians
English
French
Germans
Greeks
Indians
Japanese
Malinese
Mongols
Persians
Romans
Russians
Spanish

Expansion 1:
Assyrians
Carthaginians
Celts
Incans
Koreans
Mayans
Turks
Vikings

Expansion 2:
Byzantines
Dutch
Hebrews
Hittites
Portuguese
Polish
Sumerians
Zulus (heaven forbid) or a Native North American Civ.

How about the 'americans' become a generic civ for the old natives in northern america? To represent the semi-nomadic tribes there? Blasphemy?
