DeepO's most recent PM to me, included with my most recent to him
quote:
My apologies, Ninot,
I was going to get back to you, but both rl issues and the discusions on our board has delayed me quite a bit.
I sent a small note to Togas, to explain that we couldn't be interested in math, as we were acquiring it that turn too, and were hoping to sell it to you instead. But clearly, someone has been paying attention to Togas diplo lessons, as it came the same turn to both nations, without any possibility to trade it.
We were under the impression that you might be interested to trade literature for CoL, it's evenly priced, we will have it very soon, and if we're both the first to receive it, nobody should get a disadvantage in the trade.
We're planning on acquiring philosophy as well, so our next research goal would certainly be the republic. Please keep this in mind when setting your tech plans, you should be able to acquire republic from us before it would be possible for you to research it yourselves. (if, nothing unforeseen prevents us, of course, and unforeseen things have a way of happening in this game)
If you would be interested in this trade, let me know, so we can start negotiate the details of it.
I can understand that upon meeting us, you were eager to sign a deal with us, not only to deprive others from dealing with us (and yes, we seem to be in high demand), but also because most likely the situation on the main continent makes a bit of extra cash more then welcome. If you find yourselves in urgent need of gold due to the crisis, we would be willing to offer you a loan. This offer will stand for as long as we can without compromising our internal security, but details of course have to be discussed, and agreed upon by my team.
As to how GS is doing: I'm not sure... I expect everything to still be very well, still happily building towards a superiority on this continent, but as I wasn't able to view all the board discussion the past few days, I can't say for sure. One thing is certain, the amount of posts has only increased with meeting more people, so many possibilities, so many dangers, a truely exciting world!
Kind regards,
DeepO of Gathering Storm.

DeepO,
How is Gathering Storm? Are there any new exciting tales from your nation? Out here in Roleplay land, we're just looking for things to do. Reading beeing one of them.
We are in the process of researching Literature. And Roleplay is perticularly interested in what Gathering Storm might want to offer in a trade for this technology.
This way of keeping documents could help you keep records of your exciting tales, perhaps to better share with your friends, the Roleplayers .
Also, is there anything Gathering Storm might like to discuss? I think it can only help the excitement of the game if we increase our frequency of chatting, and share more friendly informations. It will create for more detailed stories, at least

I had a chat with Nimitz last night, trying to work out a future tech deal with Legoland. Nimitz was (or was acting) utterly uniformed and vague about what his team is researching, but he implied they were working on Literature (they don't seem to give any concern about trading). I gave him a list of our tech and he indicated they wanted only Math, Writing, and Mysticism. They already have writing! My faith in Nimitz's competancy is very weak.
I offered him Horseback Riding, Literature, Warrior Code, etc but he said they didn't need those techs.
About all they can offer is Mapmaking. He can't offer his World Map unless he gets permission. They might have some gold, but we didn't discuss it, he was more interested in getting gossip about Lux Invicta than really working out a deal, and said that he wanted to wait for Vondrack to get online before giving me anything "official."

Agreed. ND most likely has virtually our entire area mapped. GoW will know our lands when they trade ND maps, if we don't trade them world maps the only one to lose is us.

THe conversation between Shiber (GS) and Vondrack was intercepted today. I then was talking to Vondrack about some more things and then when to ISDG stuff. Here is the transcript:
quote:
[vondrack> I have some tough time in Lego these turns
[Shiber> how come?
[vondrack> membership growing a bit nervous
[vondrack> about our lead diminishing
[vondrack> that pay too much attention to the scores, I think
[Shiber> i'm not sure i understand
[vondrack> I mean
[Shiber> what do you mean by 'membership growing a bit nervous'?
[vondrack> they start to worry about the way we play
[vondrack> our members
[vondrack> fellow Legos
[Shiber> who pays to much attention to scores?
[vondrack> well, they do
[vondrack> but seriously, with all the jungle here, it was something to be expected
[Shiber> still having trouble with barbarians?
[vondrack> yeah
[vondrack> loads of them
[vondrack> razed one camp two turns ago
[vondrack> one on this turn
[vondrack> and there is one more
[Shiber> wow, so you must be getting a lot of gold and veterans
[vondrack> nah
[vondrack> gold, yes
[Shiber> i wouldn't be so worried about the wretched jungle then
[vondrack> but veterans?
[vondrack> nope
[vondrack> well, me neither
[vondrack> but I am having difficult times keeping my teammates determined
[vondrack> they start to panic a bit
[vondrack> looking at the scores, they feel like we must be doing real bad, losing that nice lead...
[vondrack> not the majority
[vondrack> but several of them
[vondrack> requires a lot of explaining, analyzing, and posting...
[vondrack> anyway
[vondrack> it's not that bad
[vondrack> just that it used to be a bit easier to run the team
[Shiber> must be fascinating, being isolated like this
[Shiber> i think of all the opportunities...
[vondrack> hehe... everything has its upsides and downsides
[vondrack> just think of how much behind we must be in techs
[Shiber> you'll be behind in tech, for sure, but all that gold from the barb huts will let you buy your way into the top
[vondrack> do you think so?
[vondrack> I'd think money would not be that highly valued...
[Shiber> i'm positive
[vondrack> I heard all the teams over there are now researching Tier 3 techs...
[Shiber> it's true
[vondrack> hmmmm
[vondrack> sigh
[Shiber> where are you in tech?
[vondrack> just finishing Iron Working
[Shiber> OMG
[Shiber> well, if it improves your feeling, i'm sure that GS will cut you fair prices for techs if we're the first to make contact with your team
[vondrack> thanks, appreciated
[Shiber> we've played fair so far and we intend to continue this way until the end of the game
[vondrack> I understand, glad to hear that
[E_T_Waiting> Reminds me of when I was in the SPDG City Planner, I had to spell everything out and still had peopleclambering for more information
[vondrack> hehe, yes
[Shiber>
[E_T_Waiting> the good thing about being so far behind in the techs, is that they will be cheaper to buy
[E_T_Waiting> or research
[E_T_Waiting> Like IW, you just started that and now have it done. You'll Probibly do the same with the Wheel
[vondrack> hmmm... I do not think that techs are getting cheaper
[vondrack> unless we MEET civs that know them
[E_T_Waiting> That Way, you know were all of your resources are and can start building those units
[vondrack> at least IW is exactly 144 beakers for us, no discount
[E_T_Waiting> well. If anything, your research base is a lot more than everybody esle has
[E_T_Waiting> *else
[E_T_Waiting> and that is want you need to emphasize to your people.
[vondrack> hmm, let's hope you are right... even though I would not be so sure... especially you, RP’ers seem to be catching up on us quite nicely last turns...
[E_T_Waiting> It all depends on how you lood at the numbers
[E_T_Waiting> *loog
[vondrack>
[E_T_Waiting> *Look
[vondrack> I know
[vondrack> it's not me who's losing faith... )
[E_T_Waiting> then, just slap them around with a wet noodle....
[vondrack> oh, I'm slapping like mad... ))
[E_T_Waiting> Then don't worry about it, unless the rumbles are enough to get you thrown out of the lego leadership
[vondrack>
[vondrack> it's not that bad yet
[E_T_Waiting> try to make a few of your most outspoken people start doing some number crunching or something, so that he gets a fell for what your talking about
[E_T_Waiting> *feel
[vondrack> oh... get Sharpe do some number crunching? that's impossible...
[vondrack> he just has feelings and concerns
[vondrack> no number crunching
[vondrack> )
[E_T_Waiting> like your F11 Productivity, it must be #1, right
[vondrack> yes, I think so
[E_T_Waiting> then make him feel Important, give him a flashy job and let him get distracted by that... Remember, when you can't dazzle then with your brilliance, baffle them with your bullshit..
[vondrack> LoL
[vondrack> good idea
[vondrack> just that when he was asked to run for some post
[vondrack> he said he did not have time enough
[vondrack> but then was the most often posting member...
[vondrack> go figure
[vondrack> I mean - he is often right that this or that could be done in a different way
[vondrack> but we canùt do everything
[vondrack> can't
[vondrack> resources are limited
[vondrack> Trip did right burning his own cities, IMHO

latest from DeepO
quote: Ninot,
I'm sorry for the delay, but as not all our diplomatic contacts were as quick as you to respond to our proposals, we needed to delay the trade one turn. We noticed you discovered literature, and hope you're not waiting anxiously for CoL to build courthouses. Our team considered it wiser to delay the trade, instead of risking upsetting teams on the deminished value of the tech.
I hope you understand, and don't take offense in this delay. If you want to speed the deal up, you could offer us literature in your turn (if it hasn't passed already), but please know that for us it makes no difference, we'll gladly be the ones offering CoL first.

DeepO,
We should have Lit within a couple of turns. When you get CoL, offer it to us, and we should be able to respond with our half of the deal by then.

I received the following PM from BFM:
quote:
Hello Togas!
We have not talked since some time. This should change, is my opinion. RP is the only Civ on the continent we can really trust. I sent a message to jdjdjd, but he told me I should speak to you personally.
Much has happened since our last posts. The evil ND people, who speak a strange language, have attacked us and we were forced to burn our cities to the ground. A pity. We really hope that they'll not be able to find our last Settler, otherwise, we will be doomed. But we have taken precautions to keep it hidden from them.
In the meantime, we may be able to do business. We learned the secret of Mathematics, which you already know, and will soon be getting Writing and MapMaking. Yes - we are still a nation of traders, as you can see.
As you might know, we are a Scientific Civ, meaning that we'll get a Free Tech once we have all mandatory Ancient Era techs. That is why we want to strike a deal with you.
If you can provide us with two of the following techs: Philosophy, Construction or Currency (or one such tech and an amount of Gold, or one such tech and either Republic or Monarchy), we will give you our free tech in return, once we reach the Medieval Era.
Remember that this tech is free for us, but quite costly for you - the research needed is considerably higher...!
I hope to hear from you soon!
BFM of Lux Invicta

I wrote him back saying we'd consider their offer however, I was somewhat annoyed that our two requests to trade them Writing have been ignored and I'd like to first know why they haven't responded to our attempts to sell them writing before I consider this deal.
