JRabbit, a few clarifications:

1. Stealing science can lead to war with a nation during a ceasefire, or may not. If it leads to war, then we take a reputation hit. I wouldn't want to risk sacrificing our spotless reputation in this way.

2. A spy with a nuke in her knickers will cause us to go to war with every other nation on the board. If we have peace with one nation, that peace treaty will be broken, hence a reputation hit as well.

The only time we will be allowed to nuke another city is if we are at war with everyone. In this situation, I think a better use of cash would be to simply invade...

Dr. Spike:

Calling a leader a barbarian has little force unless already a Democracy. Barbarians are honoured and respected in a Despotism.

Rather frustrating. I say "useless" because we can't afford to become Democrats yet. We've already got black faces because of excessive cities; I don't think all of them will go away with Dem. Somebody neglected to research Cer so we could have Temples. Colosseums are way too expensive to build in size 2-3 cities.
Doc was preparing a nice 3+ special site on our secondary continent. Perhaps expanding onto continent #47 and competing with the Greeks would be better. Dropped off a Gold 'van to poke around, hoping to find Athens (demanded).
Then I realize Pharsalos is just an outpost. It appears to be an Advanced Tribe (2 SW of the Whale). I doubt Hippo has built more than one other city on the continent. It still may be worth sending a ship with the 'van to go looking for the Greek homeland.

Currently many Temples under construction and Mysticism in the research queue to make them work better. Have a keel laid at the Free Willy shipyards in case we want to find a route to our Roman neighbors.

I would presume CB was eschewed to get us to demo quicker and because the original plan was to sleaze, with maybe one city bigger with HG and another xinning.

If we change to democracy, we would need lux set at 30% and get techs every 4 turns without delivering a caravan which is better than what we can get now.
We may have to delete a trireme or at least have him in a city until a temple is built.

'Twas a no win situation... get too many off-track techs and we'd be stuck in Despo forever.

I hate the thought of Democracy without Mikes... but then, I hate the thought of Despotism in 1500 AD even more.

Black hats actually make democracy easier. Of course we won't get many in demo for some time. Also, we are losing 16 production to corruption (including 5 whale shields). We only have 24 supported units. So net production will actually be virtually unchanged (average 1/2 shield per city), and will increase greatly as cities will be able to celebrate. Throw in that trade will almost triple, so using half of that increase for luxuries (30%)will still give more science and taxes.

I say Democracy ASAP!

Short term pain for long term gain... going to Demo will free us from corruption, and we've got to learn techs faster in Demo, even at 30% lux!

And with high enough luxury rates we might be able to get some fast growth
