Duncan : I'm affected when jokes lie on common misconceptions everybody assumes for being true. Frenchmen being cowards ; Frenchmen being dirty ; French women not shaving... Since I see these jokes coming back every time, I get very defensive against them, because I feel you Americans really think the French shower occasionally, and French women don't shave (trust me they do )

When you guys joke on our pathetic president, or our pathetic military (official France's laughingstock), I'm more than glad to join

I also insist on detering false misconceptions on Europeans. Were I American, I guess I'd get ticked by all the "cowboy" jokes, because they are fed by common misconceptions of Europeans (granted, these conceptions are entirely true toward Texans )

I think the cowards tried to kill him outright, but fortunately the only reliable thing about America is the unreliability of its equipment.

Chirac is the worse President France has got in the whole Fifth Republic (before that, the prez had an unsignificant role). Then again, all State leaders are the worst these times

North Korea has threatened to pull out of the armistice agreement that ended the Korean War, accusing the United States of breaking the terms of the truce. The statement, carried by the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), accused the United States of breaking the truce by bolstering its forces in the region and mounting a naval blockade.

If the US breaks the terms of the armistice by building up in the area or mounting a blockade, why is DPRK blamed for making this statement? Blame the US.

For instance, Pentagon planners are looking closely at using American military forces to stop, turn back or seize ships and aircraft from North Korea that are suspected of carrying missiles or nuclear weapons materials, officials said. The sale of missile technology to Iran, Iraq and other countries has been a major source of foreign currency for the impoverished North Korea, American officials contend.

6) When did the plant get started/program begin?

"We discovered this problem. I mean, everybody thought the agreed framework froze North Korea's nuclear aspirations. It turned out that it was misdirection. While everybody was watching Yongbyon and seeing that it was frozen, the North Koreans had started moving in a new direction with respect to the enrichment of uranium. And this didn't happen just in the last year or two. It's a decision they made and a program they started four or so years ago, and we found out about it this summer. And we confronted the North Koreans with it."
(Secretary Colin Powell, Fox News Sunday, December 29, 2002)

"They were motivated some four, five years ago, if not earlier, to make the political decision to move down the road of finding a second way of developing a nuclear weapon."
(Secretary Colin Powell, NBC Meet the Press, December 29, 2002)

"'However, we did not obtain clear evidence indicating the North had begun constructing a centrifuge facility until recently,' the CIA said. 'We assess that North Korea embarked on the effort to develop a centrifuge-based uranium enrichment program about two years ago.'
"Last year, procurement agents for North Korea 'began seeking centrifuge-related materials in large quantities,' the CIA said, noting that the North Koreans 'also obtained equipment suitable for use in uranium feed and withdrawal systems.'"
("North Korea Can Build Nukes Right Now," By Bill Gertz, Washington Times, November 22, 2002)

"The North Korean side attempted to blame this situation on recent U.S. policy, but I pointed out that this was inconsistent with information we had that their uranium enrichment program is already several years old."
(Press Conference with James Kelly, Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, October 19, 2002)

Under a 1995 agreement, the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Corp (KEDO) agreed to supply the north with 500,000 tonnes of heavy fuel oil a year in exchange for the freezing of Pyongyang's nuclear program.

But deliveries came to an end after North Korea said in October it had continued its nuclear weapons program in secret since 1994.

Basically the North Koreans promised the world that they would not try to obtain nuclear weapons back in 1994. In return the world offered them food and energy. They took advantage of the worlds trust and secretly worked to produce nukes and to build up their army. And now they (and some Euros here) are complaining about the US breaking their agreements. It wont fly. The US, and the world, should be under no obligation to stick to any agreements they have made with NK, because NK is obviously not going to stick to their agreements.
