Regarding communication with NeuD, GhengisFarb has handled the early discussions. I have just written NeuD the following letter. According to GhengisFarb, they are very much on-side with the plan. And why not - other than the ruse, they are not putting anything into it. As to the invasion of RP, we will see.

I thought this was an appropriate time to write. To start with, I regret the recent tensions that have existed bewteen our nations. I acknowledge your position on Vox landing on the Borcian Continent. To be honest, I still do not agree, but I now clearly understand your position and Vox will respect it. We also acknowledge that we still owe you 20 gold.

That being said, I understand that GhengisFarb has been in touch with you regarding future plans, as well as a very reasonable deal for monotheism which he is obtaining from Vox. Regarding the future, we are willing to help in a campaign against RolePlay on the continent, involving a temporary invasion force of 4 to 5 galleys. We also commit to turning over any cities captured by Vox in such an invasion to either you or GoW.

However, in return, we ask that you help us by keeping the ruse / charade of our war with you and GoW on the Borcian Continent. There will in fact be no Voxian troops on Borc, but we want the public story line to read as if our three nations are involved in a brutal war of attrition. This will be usefull to all of us as it will put our other neigbours at ease. We should also stay at war with each other in the game, other than the turns we want to make any trade deals. We don't want to overplay this pretend war, but make it seem believable, with lots of posturing and rhetoric. It should be fun. You can even update your foreign office thread.

As another sign of good will, I would also like to ask if you would be interested in a deal of Republic for 120 gold, less the 20 we owe you, would be 100. The deal would need to stay quiet.

We had to adjust our story line very quickly. We did not realize that turning the city back to GOW would be picked up as quickly as it was by RP. Therefore, we are saying publicly that we are pulling out - which in fact we are.

But then in about 4 turns time, Vox is going to make another try for that corner of Bob. In reality, nothing. But in fiction, we land with a stronger force, say 10 units this time - 4 spearmen, 6 immortals, and another settler. A bloody battle ensues, NeuD and Gow are victorious, and only one Voxian Immortal makes it off the continent alive. We are very poor soldiers.

I trust this OK with you. Please give me a simple note back that you understand and concur with this plan.

Thank-you. We will offer or accept a peace treaty this turn.

Yes - Ghengis is. And NeuD will help out with the ruse, but do not want to commit any troops. I will ask them directly in a day or two, to see if I can change their mind. Even one galley with two horsemen would make a difference. If NeuD and GoW could just cut all the main roads in GS, it would be a great help. Cutting their iron supply would be an even bigger bonus.

I doubt if they have enough horsemen to cut all the roads in GS. If GS is doing a REX with close spacing of cities there will be a lot of roads connecting each city. Too many to cut to isolate anything. Horsemen with defense of 1 won't last long when attacked by charriots.

It has been some time since we have talked. I trust all is well with the people of Neu Demogyptica.

The war proceeds. We have prepared, and contnue to reinforce the front.

We thank-you for your recent co-operation in the public forum. It was effective in catching them unawares - although that advantage is clearly gone now.

I am approcahing you and the people of Neu Demogyptica with a humble request to support the war. We are still committed to assisting you in the future - but for that to be effective - we need to be victors in this war. Military aid would wonderful, but given your situation, probably not acceptable. We understand that. Similarly, a straight cash loan or grant would be asking too much.

So, what I am proposing is that you agree to purchase engineering from Vox Controli. We are researching it - albeit at a low research rate. It will be ready in approximately 30 turns. We are asking 180 gold for engineering, but we owe you 20 from our previous commitement. That will bring the price down to 160. We are proposing that this be paid as two instalments, 100 gold as 5 gpt starting in 10 turns, and proceeding through to turn 30. And 60 gold payable on delivery of the tech.

We have been marshaling significant financial resources to see this war through to a succesful conclusion - which we remain confident of, despite the public bravado of GS. Your contribution to this war effort against one of the major nations of the world would help to ensure that victory, and go a long way to cementing a future relationship.

Dear BetaHound from the glorious people of Vox Controli,

we are a little bit confused by your letter. It is naturally that you will
"remember those who helped you" with your war, but why do you tell us this?
Our people have supported your case from the beginning: Our priests include
the people of Vox Controli in every of their prayers. People are writing
encouraging comments in our papyrus-newspapers.

But I cannot imagine that you expect help from our troops. You might know
that we don't posess a city at the East Coast of our continent. Plus - we
don't even have a fleet. If you really think that our armies would help you,
we could promise you to begin to build a ship, that could send our men to
your continent. But it would need several years to get to the East Ocean
(which would be your West Ocean). And the agreement of the glorious nation
of Roleplay to cross their southern borders.

As for the secret of engineering, our wise men tell us that they have made
their own thoughts about it. We don't want to offend them, that's why I
think we will let them continue their researching.

If you really need help beyond the prayers of our priests, we could offer to
advance you a small amount of money. We know that telling your warriors how
to become an Immortal is an expensive thing. And fortunatly we don't plan a
war or something similar costly at this time so we could spare some gold
coins for a certain time. But I would have to discuss this proposal with our
parliament.

Or, if you think that the war will go on for some years, we can begin within
the next turns to build a ship...

It has been awhile since we talked. The public debate right now is quite entertaining. I think Vox will take a sideline seat on this one.

Your earlier support of 'masking' our original invasion of GS was appreciated. However, the primary reasons for this war still exist. If anything GS has become even stronger.

I admit the war has not gone as originally planned. We were about 10 turns too late in launching our offensive - and feudalism and pikemen make a significant difference for GS.

However - their recent landings can be countered. We still have significant troop concentrations - as your F3 screen will indicate. So - we will not be extinct shortly. But GS has grown militarily.

So you are aware of the situation, all the other world powers are providing support - either directly or indirectly. And in significant ways.

So - we are approaching Neu Demogyptica to ask for a war contribution. We do not have horses. You have two sources. It would be a very useful contribution to our war effort against GS. We have a harbor so a trade route should be available.

Please advise if you can make this contribution. We have held war planning chats with RP and GoW and would like to include you in a more active way in our alliance. Vox remains committed to this war. Much blood has been spilled - but much more needs to be spilled before it is decided.
