atlanta's downtown is pretty much most of the interesting part of the city proper. except for maybe buckhead and the highlands.
then you go for a short drive, less than five minutes, and you're in what is technically suburbia, but it's so urban it might as well be atlanta (decatur, for instance). most of these "suburban" cities are suburban simply because they want their independence and a lower tax burden.
then you hit true suburbia, maybe ten-twenty minutes later along the highways, in the counties of gwinett and cobb (at least the outer parts.)
a little bit farther than that, maybe about an hour's drive, you hit south jo-ja.
atlanta's really a tiny-ass city; less than 400k in the city proper. it's like most sunbelt cities--huge suburbs, small cities. everybody lives outside the city and a good chunk work inside.
a good portion of atlanta was built in/near a forest. most of those trees are gone now, bulldozed so newcomer carpetbaggers can have their matchbox $300k houses.

a helluva lot of skyscrapers will be going up in asia soon. a few in korea, several in china, a few in japan and taiwan; several in se asia, too. land is a precious commodity in quite a few of those nations, and they're not as worried as the americans are of certain events.

I think the number for China is much higher than "several".
From my balconey, I can count about fifteen highrises under construction, two or three of which would probably be considered "skyscrapers". That's just within my view in just Shangai.
edit: confused "skyscraper" with "highrise"
Typical scenes from anywhere around Shanghai:
