We should make sure that our war against GCA is completed or nearly so before openly announcing our embargo against GWT. We really don't need GWT gifting cities or techs to GCA nor do we want to give them a reason to.

It will take us just over 20 turns for Invention, but GunPowder will be much quicker. Invention is not what will help CGN, it's Gunpowder they are interested in. We will be saving gold and doing deficit research. I wouldn't imagine Gunpowder taking much longer than 8 turns by the time we have Invention done.

That said, CGN might be a little displeased to learn it will be at least 28 turns before getting Gunpowder...

Why exactly are we researching so slowly, anyhow? What is our plan/scheme here? I'm not being an arse, I just genuinely don't understand. Also: I think it would be wise to make sure that CGN *does* know how long it'll be, or things could look quite poor for us.

We decided to take the 40 turn approach to Invention because we did not have a good economy at the time we started it. We have been using a single scientist to achieve this. The gold is being banked and spent on different things. If we had got our GA at the very begining of the war, like we assumed we would, then we would have forgone the 40 turn approach. But, alas, it was not meant to be.

It's a good question, F-P, and one which we should ask periodically. We have not rushed all that much recently, and with the war with GCA drawing to a final showdown, we need to decide whether this gold is of use to use now, or whether we should speed up a bit. Unfortunately, we have had so many turns of 1 beaker per turn that with a higher science rate we will be losing out considerably. But it still may be worth speeding it up (have to look at the save myself).

E_T - any plans for that cash, or is it just superfluous to MoI plans for the moment?

Actually, part of it is the theory that we would bank most of the surpluses while doing Invention at 40 turns and then defecit spend to get the next tech(s) faster.

In some situations, like ours where our economy is not that great, this can lead to getting more techs, faster, and/or cheaper. You do have to be patient on the first one though.

Well, If we had changed our research rate a while ago, when I had first presented some numbers, we would be nearing completion. Now, it's more difficult.

But if anything, we will have a few Marketplaces in place, more cities built and the FP built that will all help speed the next tech along.

Yes, this was the reason we chose 40-turn research, as I recall.

Indeed, but I'm glad that we're doing it this way. This is the most cost efficient way. And yes -- it takes a little patience.

I believe the completion of technologies is no priority at the moment, but being prepared for whatever comes after the GCA war is. And cost-efficiency fits into this strategy perfectly.

The recent MOW plan (approved by consul BF) calls for CGN to have contact with GCA and an embassy so they can do city investigations for us.

Perhaps someone in the FAM can bring this up with CGN sometime in the near future?

NM, it's better if you just post a summary in this thread and the actual conversation in the "Official Messages" thread. Thanks for the info, but you were also supposed to report to CGN about how long it will take us to get to Invention; at least that's the question I remeber them asking a while back and that was what Trip was going to report on.

Invention and Gun Powder, actually.

The answer is... close to 30 turns. We get Invention in 20 or so, we deficit spend to Gun Powder in about 10, maybe a little less with growth.

Miccofl contacted and informed me that CGN will have Chivalry completed in four turns. After that they will be turning research down and saving cash. GWT is... retreating from the battlefield.

I asked miccofl to bring up the subject of CGN trading us Chivalry early in order to speed up the destruction of GCA (which would help speed up our techs as well).

We can both use Knights to help finish GCA and to build up a mobile reserve to contend with CFC should they get antsy. We're much closer to Riders than we are to Muskets, after all...
